Here in Australia, some of our entire towns are smaller than your retirement village. We have a town in South Australia called Cook with a population of about 12 people. There is also a man who lives outside Cook in a house mostly made of rock and car tyres, who prefers to stay away from the "rush" of Cook!!! LOL.
