Vince Russo is one of the most polarising figures in wrestling history. When he became the head writer of the WWE, wrestling changed forever… and whether it was for the better or worse is completely up to you. Vince Russo has written WWE, WCW and TNA and has had his fair share of critics, fans and people in the wrestling industry cough Jim Cornette. And of course Vince, it goes without saying that Vincent has had his fair shares of feuds and controversy.

The Brawl for All was horrible! But you failed to mention that Bradshaw was a known Bully backstage and would brag about how he could legit beat basically anyone in a bar fight. There are countless stories of his bullying other wrestlers and announcers before brawl for all and well after. Not that the tourney was good or a good idea, but those nuggets will not portray Brandshaw as an innocent victim of Russo whon is creatively responsible for much more crap than good in wrestling.

@davidlevy706
@davidlevy706 Год назад
Vince Russo didn't provide this explanation publicly - and no one seems to recall him stating it behind the scenes, despite him famously having a big mouth - until after Bradshaw's reputation as a bully became widely known. That - along with Russo's propensity to lie whenever he thinks it benefits him in some way - is why his claim has been called into question. It _might_ be true - or it might be an attempt by Russo to sugarcoat his spectacularly awful idea by retroactively attaching a relatable motive / silver lining. (Of course, if it _is_ true, it actually reinforces Russo's unprofessionalism.)

That Bradshaw story is BS, Bradshaw had zero locker room sway at the time, he was a curtain jerker and his job was hardly secure. There is no way in hell Bradshaw was talking trash in the lockeroom. I loved WCW for years, but had lost interest around 1999 at 9 years old. WWF was too good, and WCW was mostly unwatchable outside of cruiserweight matches. I would try to tune in every few weeks, which eventually became longer. Sometime in 2000 after a few months of not watching, I tuned in to see Russo cutting a big in-ring promo. I had no idea who he was, what he was talking about, or why anyone who clearly wasn’t a wrestler was talking so much. I would turn back later to try and see a match, but it was just interviews with wrestlers and commentators repeatedly bringing his name up. There was no action. I remember saying out loud, disgusted and confused, “Who is Vince Russo” before turning back to RAW. I never tried watching WCW again.

For all his bad ideas he did at least attempt to push younger talent. And as much as I am an old school wrestling fan, I will admit seeing the Brawl For All as a teen was very memorable lol 🤣. I also think the Hogan and Jarrett worked shoot at Bash at the beach was the right kind of shock moment. If they could have followed up it would have been great TV. The issue with Vince Russo is that while he has creative ideas (saying this from someone who is not a fan of his), he has to be kept on a leash, or the collateral damage he will inevitably cause will set you back time, talent, and money. Defenders will keep saying that Vinny Ru was one of the main driving forces of the Attitude Era, but here is the thing: using an analogy, Russo is a cog in a machine, not the engine. McMahon is ultimately the one with the final say in any booking decisions, and say what you want about the man himself, but at least his presence keeps Russo and other writers from running amok with stupid pitches. This lack of a leash was very apparent with the way Russo booked WCW, and honestly, when you look at the Brawl for All (which ironically was approved by McMahon), the red flags were already there, considering what happened in the end. This is more personal, but based on what I have seen and heard about the man, I see Russo as a freaking coward. Say what you want about Cornette, but at least he will back up his talk if you push his buttons. Russo, though, will just run and hide behind the nearest shield when push comes to shove, especially after how TNA handled Cornette's dismissal, followed by the RO after Cornette' made some implied threats about him (which, realistically, is unlikely, considering the age gap between the two men). As for any Vinny Ru defenders who still adamantly follow and support him, just know that your "hero" would literally run away or throw you under the bus after sticking your neck out for him.

This. I am so tired of fans using the Attitude Era as a defense of his work when really, while you can definitely see Russo like ideas during his time in the AE, they were also very filter by Vince McMahon and we had the Vince before he started to loose it about a little over a decade later

I never understood the concept of doing Boxing in a wrestling ring. The Lion's Den match was already the perfect set up to do shoot fighting. Boxing isn't fighting. There is a different set up and more restrictions than other combat sports.

I don't believe a word about Bradshaw being the reason behind Brawl for all. I think it was a case of revisionist history as a way to make him look better on hindsight as the cunning vigilante sticking it to the bully. It's far more likely that Vince new the boss Vince was a massive boxing fan and the car crash TV element with boxing hot at the time. Russo is pretty well known to have differing accounts of events after they have occurred and this is no exception

for the record these were NOT by any stretch of the imagination "boxing" matches. they are "toughman" fights which are different rules entirely. butterbean represented the toughman championship organization and this was supposed to be mutually beneficial for both companies. only butterbean really benefitted but his star would burn out quick too soon after. and dont say "well they are close enough". boxing matches would have required licenses, an expensive medic crew on standby, sanctioned referees, etc. its regulated very differently which is why you dont hear them even use the word box/boxing.

The thing about the bwael for awel iz more than Vinnie Russu iz that thiz waz not wrezzling. Nor waz zit boxxing. Thiz waz modded mix marshal art. But as bad as that was I can think of worse, Beaver Cleavage. This was Vince's baby. He fought tooth and nail for it to air. He would do anything to have it shown. He was desperate. Everyone hated it, basically it was a GTV rip off of Leave it to Beaver where a man child and his mother were on together. Sexually. It aired once, fans not only farted on it but took a giant dump on it, and Vince was mad at the fans, at the staff, no one got it. No one could see his brilliance. The fans didn't know what was good, only he did.
