The irony of me clicking on this and watching Russo say Zayn can't draw right after seeing the crowd pop like crazy for Zayn at Wrestlemania 40 is astounding
I agree with Vince. I didn't buy into Owens at first when he was beating everyone but now that he is more of a common man with an anger problem, this fits him better.
@@bladey_0_10 Lets face it, winning the fake title can make you larger than life and into a pop culture mega star. Hogan, Savage, Warrior, Sting, Austin, Rock, Goldberg, Batista and Cena are perfect examples
@@chunkz1187 Butterbean was not a circus attraction, he was a legitimate fighter that won titles and fought a number of legitimate people. He definitely drew a lot of attention for the novelty of his size and his ability despite his size, but to downplay him is ignorant at best.
As much heat as this guy gets, Russo is right. Owens doesn’t look like a prize fighter. Even Cornette says Zayn should keep wearing a shirt in the ring 😂 I mean they’re not wrong.
@@KingOso76tank Abbott was a legit tough guy / fighter who looked the part and would back it up.. owens doesn’t carry the tough guy image at all!! Soft tub of lard .. fat boy
As well as Dan "The Beast" Severn, who used to wrestled in WWE during the Attitude Era. Hell, even Ronda Rousey, and Shayna Baszler can beat up the whole WWE rosters.
Steve blackman, Dan severn, haku, ken shamrock, ronda rousey, ivy nile, shayna baszler, brock lesnar, dr death steve williams, these Guys would legitimately beat half of the roster up
That was all a gimmick to promote that movie. Vince stands by what he says. He was the first guy to give Booker T a WHC title run because he knew Booker T was the real deal and deserving of it.
Owens is built like at least one prize fighter. Tank Abbott. But I do agree. Wrestlers should be larger than life. Not necessarily 6'8". A larger than life personality works as well.
@@That90sShow Obviously I'm talking about appearances and not actual skill sets or athletic ability. I wouldn't compare the skills sets of Owens and Abbott any more than I would compare the espionage skills of Daniel Craig to those of an actual British spy...... because wrestling isn't real.
Yes I agreed. KO doesn't look like a prize fighter. I viewed him as a Stone Cold wannabe, using Steve Austin's stunner as his finisher. How unoriginal!
He is the only one who didn't put his own spin on it. It's like he was a jobber in 1999 WCW and blatantly stole it. Him jobbing to old man Austin was poetic justice, though, because you just know it crushed his soul the same way losing to Goldberg did.
@@ReinEngelI understand where you're coming from but realistically how many different ways can you do a move? By that logic Every wrestler has "stolen" their finisher from someone else
This guy Russo is 1000% right what's he's saying here is physical stature size like WWF Hulk hogan, Ultimate warrior, King Kong bundy ,The Warlord ,Sycho Sid ,Undertaker ect.
I kind of agree with him. The Attitude Era was very funny, and part of that was how absurd and hilarious it was to see these huge guys in tights basically doing comedy sketches. Family Members of mine who hated wrestling would stop what they were doing to watch that spectacle. Like bodybuilders in speedos doing Shakespeare. Now, when they're being funny, it really just looks like regular people in a just another improv or sketch comedy troop - and not a very good one.
The 180 Kevin pulled from saying the Kliq killed the business to flashing their gang sign proved what type of person he is. The incident where he stopped a match to call a fan the F-word did as well.
A big fat guy ran and mowed him down from behind, Brock Lesnar would get knocked down from that. And Seth got straight back up, are you some kind of idiot?
still weak asf. punk would've caught him in a headlock not get his ass handed to him until sercuity came to save him then act lke he just kicked his ass.
steen always turns on generico even in 2024. SAME OLD SHIT! SAME OLD SHIT! SAME OLD SHIT! none of the best feuds ever are done a billion times that's why rko vs john cena has go away heat cuz it was always the same.
But it's true, you have these samoan guys who all looked jacked, and they are telling us that this out-of-shape looking Canadian can beat any of them? I mean, please. There are 7 or 8 other guys I can believe. Not Sami. Sami is a Mick Foley like good guy, a really good sympathetic babyface and can with a match, but like Mick Foley, would need interference or can win in a multi-man match, like a triple threat, but not on a one-on-one match. @@Joecbg100
I agree to a point, there are too many guys that look like they could be just your everyday guy walking around the store. That can still work with some guys like Road Dog or even Arn Anderson back in the day but Road Dog was a great talker and had so much charisma. Arn looked like the kind of guy that would walk into a hick bar and knock out the loudmouth. They still had an IT factor.
It’s so funny how people really still talking about wrestlers being draws in the WWE. All being a draw means is you draw in money, so if they are top merch sellers, and people pay to see them then they are draws. They may not necessarily be the main draws, but the argument now is basically WWE itself is the main draw. Most of the time when WWE comes to town they barely even mention matches. Because they know the fans are coming to see a particular wrestler they’re coming to see WWE.
Add Finn Balor, Jungle Boy, Daniel Bryan, and the Young Bucks to conversation. Too many legitimate vanilla midgets in the business today. And in regards to Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit being called “vanilla midget”, the two of them looked like fighters. They looked like you didn’t want to cross them.
Balor is in insane shape what are you talking about 🤣 literally not one bit of fat on that man. And Daniel Bryan is arguably the best wrestler on the world today. Agree on the rest though.
Yall cant doubt that vince loves the business tho. I just feel like he just treated the business as a 9 to 5 at girst. Then ended up becoming interested in it eventually.
Normally I'm really not a Russo fan at all. But where is the lie here? It isn't an exaggeration to say that Sami gets nowhere without Roman's heat. Because it was the fan's hatred of Roman that led to the absurd grass roots underdog shit that then led to fans wanting to see Sami beat Roman. Take Roman away and Sami just isn't that over. The IC title is already losing interest because a dude with no muscles that looks homeless is holding it, as opposed to Gunther, who inspired awe once his reign really got going. I also agree about Owens. The right gimmick, and his build works for him. But there is a reason that The Rock draws what he does and Owens draws what he does.
You could tell me right now what a war is, a fight, a weapon, you can tell anyone what something is because you have seen it. Experiencing it yourself is different than observing. You antiRusso marks are all the same
i agree. this is why i stopped watching the new wrestling for a while but sami is actually my favorite newer wrestler now that i actually watch and understand it
@@jasontodd1896 lol pretty sure mysterio sold more merch and tickets then 98% of wrestlers ever period. And Russo goes on to say he never liked wrestling that much yet never stops talking about it.🙄🙄🙄
Crowd pops don’t make you a draw. If that was the case, then every face in the WWF during the attitude era was a draw. Because they all got great pops.
I don't see Owens' having a gimmick as an out-of-shape guy who eats junk food, at least now seeing that this niche was eventually filled by Otis (who was training at the Performance Center at the time this clip was recorded).
Sorry but dudes got a very legit point here: it takes many aspects to be a great pro wrestler and yeah your look is absolutely one of them; and regardless of how pc and pandering WWE wanted to try and pretend it was - I emphatically think the guys he mentioned never truly made it to top tier because Vince McMahon absolutely viewed them in a comparable fashion as Russo, and it clearly Did matter.
