@@crazasta5290 unless there's information in the movie I'm not aware of (because I haven't seen it) it would depend on the virus. Some neurotropic viruses are incredibly painful. Ex: Herpes Zoster which causes Shingles. Plus, in attempt to fight it off, the immune system can cause some nasty neuropathy.

I had the same thing happen to me as a child. It didn't really hurt but it itched. It spread all over my elbow exposing the meat underneath my skin. I was treated by antibiotics and some good ol' rubbing alcohol. I think my mom told me it was some kind of flesh eating bacteria that I had gotten but didn't know where it came from.
At least it wasn’t physically painful, considering she would have stopped if it was. Does that make it better? No, but at least she wasn’t suffering though it

Asked me to be in the movie but was afraid I’d die. Little did I know it was just an extra and my sister and cousin are in the credits walking into the store. Fun fact :)
According to Cabin Fever 3: Patient Zero, which was actually a prequel to the first film, it was revealed that the virus (though it was also called a bacteria) came from a laboratory located on an island off of the Dominican Republic. Even in the beginning, it was capable of infecting anything and everything animal since it infected fish and humans all the same. Surprised you didn't mention the other films.
Karen actually did know about her wound on her groin. You remember Paul goes into the bathroom and finds infected blood everywhere. Then Karen ask to go to the bathroom because she's bleeding. There's actually a lot of hidden context in this movie. Also that the town knew about the virus attempting to cover it up so there water sales don't decline.
Fun fact: Cabin fever was filmed at camp Raven Knob. A boy scout camp in North Carolina that people from all over the country come to. I've actually visited the cabin when I was a boy scout.
Thank you for telling me another location on Earth that I'll never go to. The setting of this movie is seriously creepy and the areas near the cabin are haunting. Not only that but the roads are menacing at night time.
I have to admit, the doctors of this movie are apparently the laziest idiots ever: "Oh, we have someone infected with a never before seen infection that spreads quickly and eats away at the body at an extremely rapid pace... let's just dump him in the river." I would actually think they'd contact another hospital and deliver him to there to be properly examined, more than likely after giving him the mercy of an injection.
I mean, it's also a "Crazy Hillbillies" movie on-top of being an outbreak film. The whole point of the movies are to play up the stereotypes of country/mountain-folk to be inbred dimwits (to varying degrees).
They wouldn't burn the body, every hospital, pretty much world wide, has a way to quarantine or section off a room for "infectious / biological threats" they would however let the person die without care, and then would examine the body with specialized equipment. the bigger crime is those damn kids filling a cooler from the river for lemonade? who the fuck would EVER do that? even little ass kids know you don't just drink from rivers and lakes. not to mention walking all the way down to the river instead of filling up at a tap?? Not to worry though, all water (except well water) is run through many cleaning stages and filtration before it comes into your house, you'll die from the chlorine in it long before some bacterial infection.
And incineration of any biohazardous material. Like goddamn, you'd think that they'd be scared enough by such a thing being infectious that they would adhere to proper protocol, but, no. "Eh, leave him in the river."
While I don't remember the exact wording, having not seen the movie in years, the line around that moment's insane logic still sticks with me. Something along the lines of "You're sick, that's your problem. My kid bites you and gets sick, that's my wife's problem. My wife gets sick, that's my problem. We need to eliminate THE PROBLEM!" *Racks shotgun*
This movie is actually terrifying. Imagine not knowing what water was contaminated. This would be worse than zombies because it would spread fast that ugh body fluids etc.
The concept is terrifying but Eli Roth has a horrible habit of driving plot by contrivance. "Hey there's some kids with an infectious disease - go ahead and just shoot them." / "Well, we're not equipped for this sort of thing so let's just dump the body by the river." Like, it's a contagion movie that also injects chaotic stupid villainous/nefarious antagonists because reasons. Kinda loses me.
I love how at the beginning the group of young adults finds a man who is clearly injured and is begging for help, and they respond by shooting at him, when he manages to drag himself to nearest civilization he can find the group instantly slams the door in his face and when he, arguably justifiably, tries to get to their car after getting refused any kind of help, the group just goes out and straight up murder the guy in cold blood. Those people are psychopaths.
It's a bit of understandable behavior but way over exaggerated, I could understand not wanting the guy to enter the home or touch them as before the throwing up blood, his skin had begun to flake off, which maybe made them think of leprosy? Since I'm pretty sure most people know about leprosy one way or another and they know that shit bad, get away from that shit. But to the extent of being like, "Yeah let's just fucking kill this guy" is insane, even if this was a crackhead doped out of his mind I'm pretty sure you'd try to knock him out rather than kill him. So yeah, fuck em
its interesting because horror movies are often in a small way moral stories. and think about it, had the hunting guy told him to wait at a distance and they would call the paramedics..he would never have fallen into the water infecting them, and provided the paramedics were careful about ppe, the death toll would have been basically the first guy and his dog. and they would have known something was up so the "bad meat" situation would have been culled and the situation contained. in the real world, as someone said upstream there was a degree of hillbilly stereotype, that carried everyone's actions beyond the uncanny valley. but rationally it could have been fixed that quickly.
This was the hardest watch for me because body horror is precisely the horror that gets me every single time. Watching living people melt is... a true nightmare. Still, love your content!
Yeah really! I remember back in the day when October finally rolled around at least here in North Texas the cold fronts would have already begun to roll through. Initially they cold fronts would just be a change of wind direction, but almost always deliver desert dry-like air. So it would be a natural nose bleed season for a while for many Texans. For the first half of October the cold fronts would become more frequent at the same time becoming more cold instead of just a change of wind direction and some of the driest air masses possible. By Halloween the days would be mild but the nights would be fricken freezing. Good times weather wise... good times...
I once had a staph infection in my leg, and can say from experience that this is upsettingly possible. 0/10 would not recommend (I’m fine now, luckily I got it pretty much as far from my heart as possible and it never got into my bloodstream.)
Director Eli Roth BASED the virus on his personal experience with Necrotizing Fasciitis. Only in real life NF is a bacteria, not a virus and it's also MUCH MUCH less contagious than in this movie, although the movie does show a fairly accurate depiction of the symptoms and it really does spread that fast and can kill you in 24 hours. You also often can get it from swimming in contaminated water if you have an open wound (even as minor as a papercut or bug bite).
the most unbelievable part is the kids getting water for their lemonade by going to a creek and filling a big container with it. haha could they really carry that much water? Aside from that, why don't they have access to water at home that they have to go outside to get it? O_o even my family that lives deep in rural nebraska has access to water.
@J Tech Yes but kids do not think or see things as we do as adults. The kids aren’t stupid, they’re just kids doing what kids do. If someone much older did that same thing, such as a teen for example, then one could say there’s no excuse for their behavior.

I know it was made not too long ago but was remade (remake was terrible too).There are 1 sequel and 1 prequel the sequel taking off where the first movie leaves off and the prequel with Sean Astin aka Samwise Gangee. The sequel I enjoyed was where the first one leaves off (Water supply taken from reservoir is made into bottled water for nearby school) and the infection ensues while school has a prom. Sean Astin one is super campy and just gorey for gore sake

@@_Dynamight_ because learning this level of math im in with minimal interaction is much more difficult. cant ask questions on the spot. many of these teachers have no experience with online teaching, everyone of my classes does things differently completely, many of them are using multiple different sites to assign work from, its a lot to keep track of. i also have been using computers for entertainment for many many years so my level of focus is aweful.... i knew online school would be a problem for me which is why i made the effort to go to a school in person.

Roanoke I have to say this movie is way more scary to me now because I almost died of Stevens-Johnson syndrome when I was 16. I had an allergic reaction to a drug I was prescribed I received a lace rash over my entire body. The doctors at the hospital said that their was nothing they could and told my parents to take me home because I am terrified of hospitals and they wanted to keep me calm and happy the doctors told my parents that it was a roll of the dice whether I would live since if I got Stevens-Johnson it would be all the skin on my body shedding off me like a snake and at that point all they could do was ease my death. Soooo... Yeah this movie is way more terrifying. Still love your channel and content can't wait to see more!
What makes movies like this so horrifying is that they're usually based on something that actually exists and magnifies it to be much, much worse. In this case, the rare but still dangerous Necrotizing Fasciitis, or flesh-eating bacteria.
This movie scarred me as a child. I was so paranoid to drink water for a few weeks after I watched a bit of it. My mom had to comfort and reassure me constantly about water being ok
Me too I literally would never drink water from the faucet and always check my body for red marks or wound I was so paranoid and terrified to watch that movie again.
I love this film. Utterly horrifying and, unlike most horror films, there's no antagonist or protagonist, there's no hope, there's just grim misery. Quite rare.
I do enjoy your take on these horrible diseases and the *Terrifying* stuff you discuss. Also while do the death scroll you're voice always picks up! I know it will always be simultaneously horrified AND entertained! Always find them a good use of time! I would agree with mars University motto from futurama "knowledge brings fear". After covid in my home country I spoke to one of the most qualified women who worked in n medicine (in my old job) and while discussing lock down protocol she remarked "we finally got people to WASH THEIR HANDS* she was such a cool person to deal with (retired nearly 20 yrs) and we need more like her you and all the peeps who think of the other, BEFORE themselves. Love your vids Roanoke, but I have to disagree on this being a virus. In the sequel, Cabin Fever 2, it is confirmed that the infected are suffering from necrotizing fasciitis, a bacterial infection. Eli Roth has even confirmed he got his inspiration for the movie from his own experience with necrotizing fasciitis. Due to the severity of the symptoms and myonecrosis depicted in both films, I would suggest mutant/weaponized Clostridium perfringens or Clostridium septicum bacteria as the source of the infection. I highly recommend checking out the sequel, I found that movie much more interesting that the original.
The third movie prequel seems to suggest it’s something different as they’re studying it in a lab as if it’s a novel strain. They also can’t identify it in this movie. Even if it’s a small hospital they should surely be able to identify bacteria, unless they’ve never seen them before.
The most dreaded thing about this movie is that it had remake for some reason, which uses the EXACT same script and is almost shot-by-shot remake. One of many world's mysteries.

Honestly, that’s probably what saved him tbh. If he just got hammered the entire time then he wouldn’t have been drinking from any contaminated sources. Remember, he has no idea how this disease spreads so using pre-packaged and sealed sources of liquid (containing alcohol I might add) would be his best bet. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
I don't know why, I always get this form of deja vu. Like I feel like I've watched Roanoke do a video on Cabin Fever, but like months ago. I have this feeling with a lot of videos I watch. Something new comes out from someone I watch, but I swear I've watched it before it was actually uploaded
I was thinking it could be from filoviridae, and related to Ebola and Marburg. Those are also hemmoragic fevers and known to infect pigs. The adenovirus seems to make more sense though. Nice vid!

i belive the children of atom simply have the GHOULISH mutation desribed as your still human ON THE OUTSIDE that the soul survivor can gain it makes them not only highly resistant to radiation but lets one HEAL from it and naturally reduces rad level over time basically making someone have all the benifits of the ghoul except possible immortality with no necrosis

Actually her surviving would have been the perfect time to use the "It was all just a dream!" style ending. Then you'd see she was imagining it all as the vines slowly pull her into the dark corners of the temple.
To be fair, a screwdriver through the ear straight into the brain would probably cause that exact reaction. Your brain would most likely shut down before you’re fully aware of what happened.
Using the Flood theme from the "Library" level of HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED for this video was a stroke of genius. It really conveys just how terrifying this infection can get.
I actually did a report on this movie for my virology course in college, which is hilarious. You do a great job here. It was the general consensus of myself, and my professor, that the disease was more likely to be bacterial, or possibly some kind prion, as a viral contagion wouldn't have such a varied incubation period. From there, we decided it was likely a mutant strain of Staph, that had exchanged DNA with either some kind of E. Coli. or even a Strep bacteria.
This movie scared the shit out of me when I was younger, and then in my freshman year of high-school flesh eating streptococcus spread through my towns teenage population. Primarily through unwashed gym mats contaminating teenagers during gym classes through the most common issue a teen faces... Acne. It was a scare when we got the news that a bunch of our peers all had a flesh eating disease that anyone of us could have been exposed to. One of my friends at the time got it from sharing razors because her mom wouldn't let her shave so she borrow from friends... Good times.
The second you mentioned Stuart Johnson's syndrome I shuddered. I had a mild/moderate case of it and my god, it was VERY uncomfortable and disgusting. So watching this just made me super uncomfortable given I had skin peeling and horrid rashes/enflamed skin that could bleed at times.

Also, I was just at my family’s cabin in the north woods, while we do have a pump that brings lake water up to our cabin for plumbing we don’t try to drink it too much because even though it’s a clean lake it still is a lake. We tend to use water bottles but when we go into the nearby city to visit a relative we bring some gallon jugs to get some extra water in case. The water from the city is so gross, it’s heavily HEAVILY chlorinated, not enough to make you sick but it’s still really horrible tasting. After watching this though... I’m glad the water I was drinking was so heavily cleaned and treated.

This movie has one of my favorite, most random jokes ever. With the convenience store clerk and his gun, and at the end revealing the joke. Other than the gore, this has stuck with me the most, I have no idea why.
I was 12 years old when I watched this movie and even now I still want to curl into a ball remembering that lipless girl with her teeth exposed. Thats why I do not go to KOA Cabins anymore. I admit I used to go camping at KOA Cabin/ RV Park Reserves but I stopped doing that back in 2007. I'm glad I did for I am not a outdoors person no. I'm better off staying at hotels.

You don't have to go to college. It's not for everyone. Also, I did have fun at times, but almost everyone was stressed af, working a ton and trying to go to class too. The partying stereotype is only half true, honestly. I feel like most college students are too stressed, busy, and poor to party all the time. EDIT: also, the disease is based on necrotizing fasciitis, but that's actually a bacterial infection (a rare one at that) and not a virus. Most people's immune systems can fight it off. The real disease is also extremely painful. Also, this movie ruined my life because I'm a germaphobe and spent hours googling how to NOT get this lol.

This is one of those movies that I can not believe got a theatrical release. It’s one of those movies that you get to wear a badge of honor that you got through. It’s so bad.
Honestly this is one of the scariest movies i have ever watched, the very idea that shit like this is actually possible is scarier than any supernatural force.
Something kinda interesting I find about this movie is that the actual disease doesn't actually kill any of its hosts, they all die to another source (shot, eaten, burned, beaten to death by a shovel, hell, paul even dies in the sequel by the bus that runs him over) the only thing that dies to the virus is the hermits dog.
My body had weird reactions to the halo ambient music before I actually consciously recognized it. Man halo's flood levels really hit different, especially as a kid.
Isn't there a prequel that was eventually made that explained the virus as originating from a biowarfare lab? I remember forcing myself to watch through it, but I don't remember anything beyond that.
