Richard Weiner is the author of 23 books, including Webster's New World Dictionary of Media and Communications, found in major libraries around the world, and Professional's Guide to Public Relations Services, a textbook at many colleges.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This vid needs much more attention! It gave me a new perspective about a group of people who did gossiping about me at my old workplace, but also about how I myself use gossiping to bond with my friends.

Gossip is bad since it allows a person to socially accuse another person without the accused having the right to defend themselves and face their accuser! People can propagate all kinds of lies/misinformation/half-truths through gossip. But those are rumors you say. How would the receiver of a rumor know is it a rumor or gossip? Everybody assumes they're true and pass them on.

The moral barometer is not about the person being talked about (or gossipee) but the gossiper! If you cannot say something you heard to that persons face before repeating it to another person then you're a coward! Those benefits he extols regarding gossip are for non critical thinkers who need boost to their own egos and are likely the reason that many societies are fcuked up! If his reasoning skills are similar in his 23 books, I will avoid them. I've know several authors and maybe 10% write words worth reading. edit: gossip and rumors are *not* exclusive.

Rule 1 of gossiping - tell everyone about it. Rule 2 of gossiping - tell everyone about it.

He does make good points. People sure do gossip. It's as driven a behavior as sex...which is probably why it cannot be purged from human behavior. But wow...totally omitted mention of when gossip is terribly wrong. What about the malevolent kind of gossip that causes harm, even death? How is that any sort of "good"?

The problem here is that he doesn't even bother to define what is meant by gossip. Very intellectually lazy talk.
