Bro the coaching staffs at each college would change history. Just think of the U and their 2000 football program. Vince wilfork for d line. Ray lewis for Linebackers, ed Reed for safteys.Devin Hester on special teams. Frank Gore running backs coach
With all the talk that schools and universities aren't hiring minority candidates, Deion could blow this wide open and provide opportunities for so many people.
That's the problem with the sports fan's mentality in 2019: This is competitive sports, not medical or legal practices. It's not about "providing opportunities" or making empowering gestures to people who've felt overlooked historically. It's about telling the country you're an elite program, where only the best, and most proven coaches are candidates for your job opening. Hiring Deion Sanders doesn't tell America that Florida State is committed to "providing opportunities". It says they're a raging, poisonous tire fire that couldn't get anyone more qualified to take the job.
Not gonna lie having the greatest db walk in and be like hey how you doin I'm prime time you wanna come play on prime time for a prime time school and play for me prime time ? Like aight you got me sir
This is sooo huge for FSU imagine the recruits he could bring in, imagine the type of motivation he could give, god as a fan I’m praying it happens and I don’t even believe in god
No recruit could ever say.... He doesn't understand what it is to be an athlete. He doesn't know the pressure of yada yada yada. The coaches he could bring in from the NFL. Could be an all-star cast of coaches.
Watts Raider How would him coaching one team (and possibly not being great at it, who knows) make an entire sport great again? Him coaching isn’t going to fix top teams having easy schedules, a stupid 4 team playoff, etc.
@@drevm7991 I didn't say it was gonna change the entire process. It will open doors and add a voice to all the problems with college football. If he can build a good program he will have a platform to help change things.
It could be a Larry Bird-like situation. It’s the name that brings in credibility. Whatever deficiencies he’d have on the Xs and Os, the coaching staff would more than mask them. It’s an out-of-the-box kind of idea with Deion, and it doesn’t hurt to gamble, especially with someone who is familiar with the program, familiar with recruiting in the state of Florida, and understands what it takes to get to the NFL. Why not. You’ve tried with a less than inspiring hire in Taggart, why not bring in someone that will make some heads turn. I agree with Rich here, recruiting would be his best asset. He has the charisma, the showmanship, and swagger to convince a blue-chipper to come to Tallahassee, and sway them away from Miami and Gainesville.
Mamba Bite Plus, I think it would put a bit of a scare into Nick Saban. Who do you think the player is going to be more wowed by, Deion, a HOF DB with multiple Super Bowl rings or Nick Saban with multiple national championship rings? If the kid wants to be a star in the NFL, Deion could tell him how, because he was an NFL superstar. Nick, even with his accolades at the college level, couldn’t do that. If a program is in need of a shot in the arm, Deion would be worth rolling the dice on.
Make sense Sanders come from championship background. He was in the '94 49ers & 95 Cowboys. He work under championship organization so he knows what it takes to win.
My first Nole game was 1978 against Big 8 champs Houston. The excitement of that game just came back to me by the way you described Deion taking over at FSU. Rich you made a believer out of me. Nole alums as assistants. Perfect. WHY Not!!! Thanks Rich E.
I AGREE 100% He is a wonderful Person and will be a GREAT Coach. The FSU Program would be back to National Championship Level. He is smart, organized and very competitive. He would bring the best Coaching staff. It is the easiest call I ever heard of
R. Guardia yea I’m sure you’ve patted yourself in the back beating terrible al golden teams when y’all had the 7 game streak, don’t back track now now that the shoe is on the other side of the foot keep that same energy
This is a no brainer, Deion would be an excellent coach think of the recruiting power he would bring, and his coaching staff would be excellent. He is well respected by former players and players today. He know the X,s and O, of the game. Most importantly he will gain the respect of the players because they trying to get where he has already been (Pro Football). Being a man a faith is his biggest asset, kids now days need direction because everyone is not going to make the pros.
I’d take #2 all day, every day. Bring back the swag! Recruiting would go through the ceiling. He’s a winner. Bleeds garnet & gold. Fear the spear! *He might still be the fastest guy on the field at Doak...
As a hurricane fan, I agree it MIGHT WORK, but this is the most important coaching hire since Bowden. This hire is a can't miss or FSU will be Tennessee 2.0! So as a cane fan I hope they roll the dice and fail miserably (kinda). I don't think the decision makers at FSU will take the HUGE risk that hiring Sanders is. The correct choice is hiring an experienced head coach that has at least some experience with recruiting South Florida. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter cuz the Miami Hurricanes are a year away from being a top 5 football team and staying there for as long as Manny Diaz stays a college coach!
I believe he would be charismatic & recruiting players for him would be second nature. I do think that he would have to hire some pretty good assistants, but far better hire than the last guy.
I know a guy who graduated from Florida State and helps out with his son's high school team through the week also. I wonder if he's a candidate for the head coaching vacancy too?
Rich is 100% wrong you guys are also this ain’t high school Deion won’t work needs more experience as a head coach. His high school failed and so will being a head coach jumping in at the highest level.
@@jerryfisherjr7489 you overvalue how well he would do in that area. Not to mention, his in game management would be awful. There are just as many people who hate Deion than love him.
It would fun to watch it, because it would be a epic fail for Sanders and Florida St. To think that he would all of sudden make FSU a powerhouse program again, overtaking Clemson and Dabo, nah. Plus, Florida is really good right now, and Miami will be back soon...it would be hard for him to dominate recruiting in the state of Florida also.
Coach Prime absolutely loves Football and spends time around it all day right now. The Head Coach is in charge of attitude and approach. The main thing in College is recruiting the best talent. He checks all the boxes. There is no better choice... They should be begging him.
Per Yahoo sports...The idea of Sanders being a candidate at Florida State always sounded more publicity stunt than reality and the Democrat’s report lends more credence to that theory. FSU sure looks like its shopping for a coach with name recognition to help restore the football program. But Sanders has no college football coaching experience. Also per NCAA rules...Does he have his Bachelor's degree from FSU?
If you are talking NFL I would see being a little hesitant to throw a guy in there with no formal coaching experience at a level close to that level before. The nuts and bolts are more important at the Pro level. In college though it is about recruiting! Prime will have an advantage over all but the top couple of programs the second he is hired in luring top recruits to FSU. Bring in a few experienced coordinators to make sure the onfield stuff runs smooth until he gets his sea legs and they will be off and running. Can't see any possible downside to this if he wants it.
All he needs to do is get either an OG offensive coordinator or defensive coordinator that's had experience winning big games and maybe even National Championships and keep him around to show him the ropes for the first year or two while he changes the sorry ass culture and brings back recruiting. And this is coming from a Florida fan.
What OC or DC would want to do all of the work and let Deion get all of the credit??? Also if the OC or DC are actually doing the heavy lifting, players are gonna get to a point of not respecting their head coach. I'm a Florida fan too. Hiring him as HC is a stupid idea. However if they do, we are going to enjoy easily whuppin his teams.
Good job Rich, what you said was so accurate about Deion...The recruiting would be crazy, but he’s also a Hall of Famer, a God fearing man, a great man in all aspects, this would be HUGE not just college football but for sports in general.
Christopher Liston it’s ok for the white men to coach pro athletes in the NFL when they have never played football in their life...but it’s not ok for Deion a hall of famer and perhaps the greatest football player of all times...one of the most beloved people in all of sports can’t possibly be fit to lead a team as a head coach? That sounds stupid af.
Yo Bigdap100 look what he did for "Prime Prep" and tell me that's the guy you want running your College Program. That's insulting it has nothing to do with race . Prime Prep was a world class dumpster fire......run by Deion Sanders a Prep School by a great , great football player.
Urban Meyer is gone. Nick Saban is at the end on the line. Jim Harbaugh is burning his players out. The time is perfect. In the emergence of college players getting paid, Deion would be an outstanding coach at FSU!
College football coaches at elite programs work ridiculous hours, especially during the season. Unless Sanders is going in there to be some type of CEO coach or culture minister type of head coach, this is going to be a disaster of epic proportions, if it happens.
In order to be a head college in college football, you must have a college degree, which Deion never got, so it is impossible for Deion to be a head coach soon. Would be a great hire in maybe 7 or 8 years, but there is no way for him to be a head coach so soon
That's not totally true. The Athletic Director can easily make an exception if he choses. Deion has so,much football experience that his lack of a degree wouldn't matter. However becaise of his lack of. Coaching experience at the Collegiate Level and FSU in rebuilding mode; I would strongly advise not to hire him.
@@braddillon4311 very true! The best blue chip players in the country want to be close to Deion. That's what Rich is talking about! Their coming to his high school from all over Texas now.
@@braddillon4311 also Mark Jackson had that same team before Kerr and didn't go far . Kerr was in danger of losing to lebron in the first finals before KD. When Kerr sat his starter and favor of andre Ignadala to play defense on James who had won 2 straight to make the series 3-2 GS was up 1 game. Andre gave James all kinds of problems and became the MVP of the series, not the HOFers. That adjustment is what made Kerr great!
LOL as a Gators Fan Please Hire Deion Sanders. He is unproven and FSU is in rebuilding mode. He was a great player but if Great Players were great coaches, Michael Jordan would be the greatest GM/Owner. FSU needs a proven winner to get rhem back to Glory. FSU listen to these dummies if you want to and when it fails its on you. None of these media dummiea will lose their jobs when your alum gets frustrated 3 to 4yrs down the line. However if you do hire him as your HC we are gonna enjoy beating the breaks off of you.
He would be an awful hire and this is coming from a FSU alum. He doesn't even have a degree which you need to be a coach at the D1 level. The only person who floated this was Deion. Easy for Rich to say FSU should set a trend when it's not his job on the line. Comparing pro coaches in other sports to college football is apples and oranges.
FSU is run by a bunch of snooty soft hands academics, who do not look at qualities like charisma, recruiting dominance, connections, & all around attraction capabilities that Neon Prime would bring to the table. The academics look at coaching experience in years, what teams he's coached, & the status of the schools he's coached at. It would make too much sense to hire Prime as their HC. Academics aren't down with breaking the status quo. They're in a damn bubble of non-reality...

The notion that bringing in an analyst to coach a high profile power 5 football team like FSU and expecting him to be successful, is actually laughable. The example provided by Eisen that it has worked for other MLB teams makes little sense since there are many more things on a football team that a successful coach has to be good at. I don’t doubt that, once he gains experience, Sanders could succeed. However, to put him in that position when you just got done paying Taggart almost 20 million to walk away, would be irresponsible. I love Deion and consider him the greatest cover corner of all time in college and the NFL. There’s no question he would energize recruiting and would bring positive attention to the program, however, every successful college football coach has worked his way up the ladder. Just ask Notre Dame how it worked for them when they hired Gerry Faust out of high school. As long time FSU Football fan, I would be more comfortable with his hiring as an assistant and letting him work his way up.
