Omar it competes with the A7 100% every other car review that has mentioned the A5 is off. Price point on both A5 Sport back and an A7 is still ways away from the max PP of the Arteon, But the size is where its more comparable, its literally a few inches shorter in total length than an A7, But more than 10 inches longer than an A5.
Not always. In Australia for example the R line is the performance version and there is no R. You bump up the horsepower by 40ish by going with the R line and get launch control. Car names are confusing and inconsistent haha
The CC atleast gave you a feeling of luxury. The door covers weren't just plastic, the insulation was really well done.. The Arteon is literally just a Golf in a different chassis
@@gs98999 Actually a car WITHOUT front plates look out of place, when ever I see a Quebecios car or a Pennsylvanian car, the front end looks bare. Also, what if a truck or car is towing and is obscuring the rear licence plate? How will you be able to run the plates through?
The Arteon is based on the European Passat B8, so I guess you now finally get the kind of "Passat" that Europe already has since 2014. The interior is pretty much the same when you compare the Arteon to a Passat B8 HighLine or R-Line.
Raven16691 although I like what they're doing with the styling of the Arteon, I'd probably prefer the Passat looks with all these premium features. At least awd.
My grandfather has an Arteon, and I love it. Plenty of power and plenty of quality. I'm also pretty sure that his car is the only civilian-owned Arteon in my state.
I test drove 5 cars last weekend. I boiled down my choices to either a BMW 330xi and the Arteon (2020). Even though the 330xi had a better interior experience, I picked the Arteon. For the same money, the driving experience is about the same, and the Arteon comes with more features for the same price.
@@leeeinfield True, but then again you can look at the Golf R vs the S3. If there's enough unique characteristics with regards to the chassis, suspension, etc., I think it could be enough to warrant its own performance model.
Saxybeast 89 LMFAO I don’t blame you, Us Ontario Drivers fucking suck 😂😂 I live in Brampton Ontario. The highest car insurance rates in NA for accidents and insurance fraud
I own a 2019 Arteon SEL Premium R-Line that I purchased new for $39,500 USD. An absolute stunning car for the money and loaded to boot! Gas mileage on a trip: 34 mpg. Put an APR+ tune in it for $1,200 USD which brought up the horsepower to 368 and the torque to 358 lb/ft. 0-60 mph in the very low 5's.
I have stage 2 they used my car for the research and development got all the good stuff 387 hp and 409 lb torque. The car is awesome very pleased and still get good gas mileage.
Kenneth Sackrider what kinda gas mileage would that be? Because I know the Passat with the big 280hp petrol engine gets really bad mileage so I can’t image a stage 2 tuned version being better.
I have virtually the same car in the UK but the big differences I notice are, I have launch control, a heads up display, a larger infotainment, dynaudio speaker system and of course a dual clutch gearbox. Seems we get a better version.
Got one my self at a great price the 2021 SE Trim. I came from a jetta 2019. I’m loving the Arteon the ride, the elegant interior, everything. I’m very happy with it.
I bought an arteon after watching this review. Theres SICK deals on them right now bc they arent moving off lots. Kia dealerships in my area havent had any issues moving them, so they didnt want to come down on price really.
Just wanna say your channel is the best lol I been watching your vids for a couple of months now and every video is informative, comedic and entertaining without trying to hard, and you never leave an absence in dialogue. You guys always know what to say, at all times. You speak on every single detail and i don't recall any other review channel doing that. Everything you guys do is spot on and i used to watch throttle house, which are awesome guys, and i love their channel too, but i found myself watching your channel more now. And less theirs. But i still love their channel too. I just like yours more now lol. With that said, please do a dodge charger scat pack!! Only because i'm getting on in spring so i kinda wanna see your review on it.
Sorry guys, I do not get your continued hatred of a volume button that turns the little on/off symbol in the middle. ??? In a million years, I would never notice, or be bothered by that. I have that feature in my 2018 Golf, and I’m so obsessed by this issue, that every time someone new is in my car, I show them my volume knob, and ask if it bothers them. Their blank stares tell the story. Just had to let you know, love your channel, and your chemistry with each other.
Just this week, VW offered me to swap my GT (Passat) for an Arteon. Unfortunately, even with all the promos and discount, I’m too early in my lease for it to be worth it (penalty too high and nullifies part of promos). I can tell though, they’re having trouble selling this car, probably for the reasons you mentioned (price, engine power)... Might swap, but at the right price only...
Богдан Кондратов true, only the AWD would be a nice upgrade.... my GT has 0 grip on snow due to its large tires... my fault, should have downsized. Live and learn right.
Please review the 2022 model! It has 300hp and DCT! Would love to know your take on it. More importantly, you'd be one of the first to review. Not many are reviewing it because most think it's the same as previous years, which it isn't.
This car needs the engine from the S4/S5, call it the Arteon R (not R line). Sure it would bump up the price (a little), and I might be the only purchaser, but yeah they should do it.
I customize the drive modes of my new Mercedes A 220. The throttle response feels great in comfort mode. The steering feels a little bit heavier in sport. It doesn't make that big of a difference after all because it's not a sports car. But I still like to customize it just to make it feel a bit more personal.
It has a launch control. Go to sport mode, then car -> settings -> turn off traction control -> hold the brake pedal and press accelerator. The you will see "Launch control program activated" -> release the break. There you have it.
How do you not have a million subscribers yet? I'm not satisfied with a review until I watch @TheStraightPipes. THE BEST AUTO REVIEWERS ON RU-vid!! Merry Christmas, guys!
I'm leaving in Germany currently and actually I crossed shop those with my current Kia Stinger. I do not regret, feel, design, power, extras and price were the deciding factors. Let me know when you visit Munich, my exhaust is loud 😎
yeah, only Lexus has uglier front grills than that Sonata...as others noted, looks like a catfish. TOO MUCH GRILL. That Arteon grill is freaking nice, not best right now, but on that side of the fence for sure.
The Arteon replaced the Passat CC. Driven a few of them and thing they look absolutely fantastic, especially in black. There is a air slammed one with giant chrome wheels driving around where I live. Looks so cool.
Unfortunately, Ontario front plates are still not cool. It's one thing I like about living in Saskatchewan: no front plates! Also, are you guys going to be doing an Outback review?
always on individual in my gti: engine (soundaktor and throttle response) - normal steering - sport (more effort) adaptive lighting - sport (doesn't lag when following curves, not sure why you'd want it any other way) front diff - sport (locks up earlier)
I was about to buy a Jetta GLI when I discovered this car. AWD is a huge selling point for me as is the sport back functionality and killer good looks. I’m buying mine tomorrow having test drove it yesterday. The fact that you guys posted this video on Christmas Eve must be the Car Gods telling me to do it.
@@tzsenpai5950 I have 10,600 miles on it now and the car has been perfect, not a single issue. It's good in the snow with the stock all season tires, it's comfortable for four full sized adults, it's smooth and quiet, it's quick, and it's a great road trip car. Recently took it on a 7 hour trip from NNY to Maine and got 540 miles of range per tank on the highway. I like it so much I'm considering getting a 2020 SEL R line if I can get the same deal I got last year.
Custom settings? I like to put everything into sport except the "bounce" level of the suspension if you can or leave the suspension at comfort or normal. Makes the steering a bit heavier, performance better, body roll, etc, while still not feeling like your kidneys will fall out on the ice heaves and potholes.
Wow, finally! You guys have been sitting on this one for ages! FYI ... it is the Golf R engine, and in Australia we get all the power, and a DSG so... it's way quicker than that lazy 8spd nonsense. Shame you got the smaller infotainment screen with scrolls as well, where ours is all touch and senses your hands approaching and shit. But we only get black interior... Regardless, glad you got to enjoy it. It'll probably be the upgrade to my VR6 CC, soon. Keep up the great work.
One advantage this has over my golf R, is that in the custom drive mode, you can now dial in the DCC. previously you could only choose comfort, normal, and sport/race
Hottest looking sedan on the market right now!! Just wish it offered a more powerful powertrain option, and the overall price of the car would go down...
If it’s anything like other VW’s there will be a tune available soon to give it more HP. I could see getting over 300 with a tune. Edit- APR has a nice tune for it lots more power.
Like many (North) Americans you want VW's to be more powerful (on paper) and cheaper. That often goes with "bigger." Europeans tend to prefer smaller displacement more fuel efficient engines and are prone to be more careful about maintenance in vehicles they pay a premium to purchase in the first place.
@@stephenhendricks103 I suppose for the European market it's fine. I understand they have more stringent fuel economy regulations. But yes. For our market, more power would boost appeal and make it more competitive. I'm not necessarily looking for a Hellcat or even an 392 Scat Pack; at least make it more comparable to the Kia Stinger...
@@jmoore4156 It's important to understand that VW doesn't expect to sell many Arteons in North America. In fact, there was a question whether it would even be offered in the North American market, at all. The new VW CEO, however, has said that regardless of sales he felt it was worthwhile to offer it as a sign of VW's European roots. In fact, however, it has done somewhat better in the US than VW expected. When I drove one of the first ones available here in the Pacific Northwest, my local dealer said they expected to receive only 3 units before the end of 2019. As it happens, they've sold nearly a dozen. The Seattle market is a relatively strong one for European sedans so that doesn't necessarily say much about the overall marketplace. Nevertheless, the Arteon is outselling the Audi A7 nationwide. (Not surprising considering the price difference.) But it's worth noting that KIA's hopes for the Stinger haven't lived up to expectations. In the last few months they've sold only about a thousand Stingers a month. That's about three times Arteon sales but sales are down significantly compared to 2018. All in all, of course, sedan sales have tanked in North America. So neither KIA nor VW is likely to put many more eggs in the baskets of either the Stinger or the Arteon. And given the relatively strong sales of the Arteon in Europe North America will remain a sideshow.
I have a non-sports car that I had to customize via OBDII. I have the 2017 Ford Fusion Sport (that you reviewed in a half-assed kinda way... it deserved better guys). Using Forscan with an ODBII connection, you can enable the Lincoln features that allow you to customize the steering and suspension modes independently of the main "sport mode". Now in the summer I keep the suspension and steering in sport mode and it makes the car 1000% better (you should re-do your review with that enabled). In the winter I drop them down to "normal", which is still higher than Ford's default (comfort).
Have a 2018 Tiguan in the family. Can only customise a few things, but I keep sports steering regardless of whatever settings I want because it’s more precise.
It’s a shame about the spec level you guys have over in Ontario. I have a uk spec R line with better body kit and tints and lots more as standard , making a more aggressive look. It’s better spec than the A7 here, you have to spend a lot to get the same toys in an Audi that i wouldn’t spend. Great review 👍
Hey the new one gets the Golf R motor! Still a big ol girl but a huge chunk of change savings vs the S5 sportback and way more power than the A4 sportback.
I have a 2014 vw passat vr6 (USA) that I put coilovers and polyurethane bushings and put an exhaust on. All for less than 11k. I have some rotif wheels and pirellis for the summer, rn I have winters on. The coilovers and bushings completely transform the car if you want a "Sporty sedan" on a cheap. I mean I truly can floor it through corners and have the back end kick out with the front wheels going wild but being really manageable at the same time. The sound is unbeatable in a six cylinder in my opinion. In terms of fwd I feel that people have a bad opinion of it because they haven't done the proper modifications to get rid of the front wheel drive wheel hop. Also people wanna be able to floor it no matter rain or snow, but that's not the case with fwd or rwd, you need to apply the power over time and concentrate on how you manage braking and putting the power down, but it makes it really fun. With good tires and a nice suspension setup your car can be really manageable in the rain even without awd. I clocked a 0-60 of 5.5 in the dry multiple times after the few suspension mods.
I once owned a 2006 B6 Passat 2.0T (automatic). Bought it new at the dealer and took it for all scheduled maintenance services. Within the first 6 months, it had transmission issues and air con issues. The issues never stopped. After my 4 yr warranty expired, I was spending $3K/yr avg on repairs. I got rid of it and I will never look back to VW specific line of cars. Their dealerships/service centers in Long Island, New York are horrible and zero commitment to making their customers happy. Nor does VW in the United States. This could be totally different in Europe. I am happy to share details if anyone is interested.
The thing that made me get the 268 hk Arteon instead of the stinger or A7 is because it was half the monthly insurance cost for me. I don’t regret it though, I love my Arteon and the 0-100 is amazing! I’m probably going to optimize it to 350hk soon. The adaptive cruise control for Volkswagen is a bit meh though (but it works fine!).
In Minnesota, United States, we have a front plate as well. Definitely a big F in the chat, boys. Also, the only setting I customize on my Volvo S60 is the steering weight to heavy so that it feels more hydraulic and less electronic.
What other lift back cars exist? -Audi A/S/RS5 & 7 -Kia Stinger -BMW 4 & 6 series Gran Coupe -VW Arteon -Mercedes GT63 Anything else? I really feel this could be the future of sedans, and deservedly so.
11:39 for the last time: every VW with lane assist has lane centering capability. It’s not on by default but you can activate it in the driving assistant settings.
I mess with the custom settings in a non-sports-car. I have a newer Volvo V90 T6. I don’t like light steering, and heavy steering is only available in “Dynamic” mode, so I created a custom mode with all the Eco & Comfort settings *with* heavy steering.
Not sure about the NA model, but with the EU, you can change the setting of the lane-keep assist, so it will keep you centered, even learns which side of the lane you like driving in.
the one we get in Australia has a DSG, the bigger infotainment screen and the golf r steering wheel as well as a HUD. I don't understand why the top trim model differs from country to country hahah
Ontario plates are ugly to me, I'm from here though so that might change my opinion. We have the ugliest plates in Canada, We should start a petition for better plates. Doug Ford might just go for it
I have a golf alltrack, which is not a sedan, but definitly not a sports car, and I always ride in Custom mode, with confort settings but the steering, that I put in sport
SuperDestrier you think? I think it’s the exact opposite. I think of stealth wealth as impressive luxury/performance with looks that deceive you into thinking it’s a normal every day car. This thing is great looking, but deceptively underwhelming compared to actual luxury cars.
Corduroy Yea. Stealth wealth would be a rare old bmw or toyota or any expensive antique in general. Or even to an extent a bmw m5 since most people think it’s like any other bmw 5 series when it’s really a 6-figure car
@@yashdeo8047 The Phaeton was stealth wealth, a car that to most people thought was just another Volkswagen but actually had a Bentley kind of interior.
I looked at this car at my local VW dealer in Georgia, its about $40k. Not too bad for an under inspiring engine that was great 10 years ago. Then I looked at the Genesis G70 and G80, which the Arteon fits right in between. For $40k you get the G70 Sport, manual trans, with 250hp and 260tq but much better looking interior. Or, for $3k more you can get the 3.3TT option 365hp 376tq. The G80 will bump you about 10k more. The only draw back, you have to buy these at a Hyundai dealership because Genesis still dont have a stand alone dealer network, Hyundai dealerships suck.
Guys you're forgetting that vw made the tesla style wheels before tesla was even a known company when they introduced the scirocco in 2006 or whenever it was.
I love the looks of the arteon but it would probably take a few modifications to make it handle really well. If you just want something sporty out of the box I would go for the stinger or G70 but, as a VW owner, there’s just something about these cars that pulls you in. I’m sure once APR puts a tune out for this it will be really quick and which some light suspension work you can get it to really go around turns well.
I've been waiting for you guys to get behind the wheel of the Arteon for a while now, and it was refreshing to hear that you overall like the car. I also think that the sportback design will help to save cars and sedans and I don't think I would want a new car that doesn't have that design or feature. I would really love to hear your thoughts on the Buick Regal Sportback GS.
