I actually loved the fact the seats were manual on my 2018 GTI but the recline was automated so you got the perfect recline but you didn’t have to wait forever to move forward and back.
I got the Autobahn and when I'm using my car for utilitarian uses it's so annoying not being able to just slide my seat ahead so I can drop my back seats and then slide the driver seat back without taking the headrests off! It's basically identical to this car's seat controls 😂 the passenger seat is so simple to just reach over and slide it ahead and drop the seat down and put it back in place. Keep the headrests off the floor and clean!
I see nobody has mentioned how convenient it is having the passenger seat manual with the lever design it has. You can easily move the passenger seat while sitting in the drivers seat. Other cars you may not be able to reach the electric controls on the side and have to get out of the car and walk around
Never understood why people want electric seats. All that tech so that you set it up once in your lifetime? The only time it makes sense is when it has a memory function and you have multiple people who drive.
@@intelsilver Agreed, I'm old school (70s child), so I prefer conventional gear selectors, buttons on the dash and so on. However I've had my 2024 VW GTI for two months now and all I can say is that you get used to that weird gear selector and the touch buttons, it's a small price to pay for the overall driving experience.
I’m glad he kept repeating of this is a golf R. Honestly, I was so lost and confused the entire video. I really had no idea what car he was talking about.🙏
Great car. The rear view camera is just great. When it is raining other cars have a "not hidden camera" and the half of the cameraview is full of water. This one is also great at bad weather!
This is even more convenient in colder climates that get snow. It keeps the snow/ice and road salt away from the lens. My first winter with this cars setup was very appreciated.
Camera feature is available on previous models, gear selector is used by other manufacturers no one talks about that. I am over VW but the car is underrated. Easy to drive everyone can drive it, not really challenging or a drivers car. AWD is more like SWD some wheel drive.
@@theyoungmessiah420 Well, example, I have a Sedan 97 A4 1.8T FWD Slicktop 5 speed, with the sport cloth interior, this is the lightest you can get a B5 for the American market the car weighs only 2792lbs. I also have the last year of B5 which is Sedan 02 S4, with the heated blue and leather alcantara seats. Anyways, the full manual with lumbar sliding and tilting sport cloth seat with no side airbag weighs 28.9lbs x2 = 57.8lbs The Top of the line trim with heated, power everything with side airbag is 64.5lbs x2 = 129 lbs so yeah. 71.2lb difference. Oh don't forget the rear seats aswell. Avant rear folding seats vs sedan folding seat is another 13lbs difference. Cause the Avant has the seat belt built in and reinforcement. 37.5lbs of the Avant 60 side, and then 11lbs for the 40 split side, the bench weighs 8lbs and then both side bolsters together are 4lbs,
My dad's Lincoln has electronic front seats on both sides. And half the time the passenger seat refuses to slide forward and would temporary loose all power to the seat for a few seconds.
Who cares about that, the most upsetting thing is how VW cheapened down all the nice things that VW use to do so well. The 2020 Golf R 7.5 (Final Edition) is finished so much nicer than this, it’s in the buttons, the carpet, the internet materials, bonnet struts, lined door pockets, console and glove box…..the mk8 has had cost cutting applied everywhere, the manual passengers seat is a minor irritation. I’ve been forced to jump ship for my next daily and grab the new Audi RS3, at least the RS3 hasn’t got shit haptic buttons and flimsy door cards. Fucking VW, causes me to spend more $$$$$ 😡
I had a 16 A3 and I hated the fact the passenger seat was manual, the little wheel u have to turn to set the back adjustment was so hard for people to use
My buddy’s 22 GTI with the same trans and shifter has been in the shop 4 times now for issues regarding the transmission and the gear selector not registering itself in park, therefore making it unable to shift into any other gear. If it has another issue they are forced to lemon law the car
I have a Golf Style. Love the gear selector. Never understand why it has to be a huge blob in other cars, where cables or bags getting stock to. It makes the whole interior simple and elegant.
@@tiedupsmurfToo poor to afford one and bitter? Drive one and you’ll see why so many people love them. The reviews are all bogus. The car is an absolute steal…the driving dynamics are amazing.
Hate the capacitive bits, the gear selector could be simpler (just a tree of buttons for P / R / N / D) and I am not a huge fan of the engine push button being on the center console near a passenger. The piano black is also pretty awful and the exterior trim not sure why the silver covers exist on the side mirrors for some of the colors... makes more sense to just follow the color of the painted body. Only saving bits for the vehicle is that it's a fairly good hot-hatch in terms of performance, but I hope for the next generation they walk back some of their decisions in terms of interior.
I feel like the front seat is a manual because some people might use this for racing or something so they want something fast unlike electronic it takes a little bit to get back
Well. Being a sports car driver, real ones, i would say that i wish the drivers side was also manual. Less weight. My $110k Porsche has no electric controls aside from up and down and the seat cannot even tilt. The 20th R i am picking up today has no moonroof which is great as it sheds weight
The Golf R along with every Golf made since 2015 has the camera in the logo; also the steering wheel heat having 3 levels is standard in that option on all VW's
I'm contemplating, as far as the driver's seat being power & passenger seat is manual. I love it,this will give the passenger an incentive to become a driver. Lol
i have VW since 2003...no way...best cars for me....Golf4, Passat TDI...Tiguan 2 times (i like so much)...but the strategy on the basic optional is always weird...i spent always too much to have few more optionals to better enjoy my cars❤
It'll be wanting a steering wheel soon, there's a tpi where you replace it due the lane assist not working properly we always get them coming back in for those
Only thing I really dislike is the shift knobs being electronic. The camera/handle and the auto seat on one side has been a thing in golf's for 3 generations
The gear selector is awesome feels like your in a airplane, the badge/handle/camera is awesome, the pasanger seat thing because "fuck em", most things are for the driver comfort.
For a safe Stage 2, you need an Intercooler and cold air intake and looking from the video yours isn't running any of the 2 recommended. If you want to rebuild this car, get a Cobb accessport and buy EQT. I'm running a Stage 1 on 92 (that's the Premium fuel we SADLY have in Hawaii) and plan to go Stage 2 thise year. Hope you'll get her back 🤙🏿
Euro spec Golf R ditched the manual because no one was buying them since the dual clutch auto is quite a bit faster (full second quicker to 0-60 mph and 1/4 mile, plus 5 mph faster trap speed. That's a big difference. I've been driving manuals for decades but If I'm spending almost $50k USD on a Golf R I would want the fast version.
I like Volkswagen and I like the Golf model. I've had a few golfs myself. but the eighth-generation Golf is the biggest fail of the entire range. I don't even want it as a gift 😂
The back up camera is nothing new for vw. I would prefer both seats manually operated. Also that shifter is interesting but give me a 6 speed with three pedals and a single clutch. Overall it’s a joy to drive but I am much to frugal for that sticker price.
Gear selector looks shite, but the rest is fine. But they should have more colours. And i dont understand why people think electrical things are automatically better than manual! Manual chair sliders all day, not a problem
The lever is too short. Even with paddle shifters on the wheel I sometimes use the lever to change gears when the wheel is turned more than 90 degrees.
That's craaaazy, and not fair, sorry about that. How do you manage to earn that much money pver there? What is the average yearly sallary in $? I saw a video about the car scene over there and they said that you need to pay like $80k to have the driving license for like 10 years pr something! Pretty crazy.
@@bokiNYC yea, and we cannot own cars here. U can only loan it for 10 years for that price. And we earn lesser than most people in the west. All in all, most Singaporeans cannot enjoy such pleasures. They just work to stay alive. If u are lucky, u may retire with your house fully paid. A significant number of us don’t, so u will be forced to downgrade to a smaller unit when u retire.
@@astletruscott6291 Volesters aren't as fast and are very small and uncomfortable, GR yaris fast but still not as comfy. I understand not buying 2022-2023 Golf Rs since they're overpriced but getting 2nd hand b4 2022 will be most likely the same price as the cars you mentioned, but you also get a much nicer/faster car.
I’m sticking with my MK 7.5 for a little longer I was on a waitlist for the MK8 but the buttonless infotainment and the sticker price are just to high.
If you think about it, it is the the cheapest in quality for a german sports car. And it’s a level under Audi. So these options for the power seats would be on all audis
at least I like his new design which is smart and my favorite color is blue it is complete but it is very expensive, it has to be cheap so that many people can afford it and volkswagen has a lot of profit like the Japanese strategy is successful in making many cars because the price is cheap
Horrible car, infinite issues with electronics. The infotainment (5f) just broke down and need replacement, the cost is outrageous 2000 euro!! RIDICULOUS
The camera behind the badge thing is nothing new. My 2015 gti has that. Passenger seat is manual to save weight. It's a golf R. It's about the driver, not the passenger. I think it only coming in 3 colors is really dumb. That should have never happened. I miss the spectrum cars.
