The quality mercedes benz had back then is amazing. It still feels great to drive one of these classics which is hard to say about a lot of old cars.

When it's a 89, it's one of the last before the facelift (in Germany called "Vormopf", which is short for "vor der Modellpflege").

Bern, this is a great review! I am the lucky owner of such a vehicle and concur with everything you've said. It has required lots of TLC but is probably approaching 300,000 miles (speedometer is non-functional) and serves daily highway driving duties beautifully!

Great review! Btw, there´s an air vent under each front seats pointing at the rear passenger's feet, at least on the sedans, not so sure about the wagons.

I feel the 500E (later E500) would have been more of a sleeper if it was offered as a wagon instead of a sedan. Nobody would expect a midsized wagon from the early 90's to have a bit over 300hp and a V8 under the hood.

there is no sport mode s stands for standard = normal and e is for snow/slippery conditions and thats why it starts from 2nd gear

there is no such thing as "sports" mode. There is Economy ans Standard. All it does is change how long it drives out the gears before changing up, no difference in power if you just floor it.
