RIP the two members of The Waitresses Mars Williams (May 29, 1955 - November 20, 2023), aged 68 Patty Donahue (March 29, 1956 - December 9, 1996), aged 40 You both will be remembered as legends.
@@daniellehall9679Maybe. Maybe not. I I know the music of musicians 500+ years ago til now. Who says their great music won't be appreciated going forward.
It was a terrible loss when Patty died of cancer aged just 40. A lot of sites mention it was lung cancer, but I read years ago that Chris Butler said she had uterine cancer. I would have liked the Waitresses to have done more albums instead of splitting after just 2, but they were both great albums
Tracy Wormworth (bass guitar) and Billy Ficca (drums) are both extraordinary musicians who continued onward into other projects after the Waitresses folded. Tracy went on to be the regular bass player of the B-52's, and Billy went on to become a prolific studio drummer on many projects for other bands.
I don't know how much longer Tracy will be with the B52s though. The B52s are retiring and have announced their farewell tour starting in August through November.
Oh! But what of Patty Donahue? "Coulda/Wounda/Shoulda!" Quit smoking before it's too late and contribute to the Lung & Cancer Societies! I heard her leather jacket's on display at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio - A fitting place for it, eh?
@@georgfriedrichhandel4390 Yes very sad. She smoked on stage too. That band, the Jetsonz, broke up in the late 80s. You can hear some recordings here: soundcloud.com/davidravenmoon
Just a picayunish observation, but at the .39 mark, the sax player is adjusting the screw for the lyre holder. I've had a Selmer Mark VI for several decades, and I've never touched that thing and I've never had to. Is that some sort of in joke for sax players?
Why do I get the feeling the guys from DEVO had a hand in this video? "The Brotherhood of Akron Bands" and all... (It would be funny if the colaberation had happened, eh?)
I'm bad at figuring out odd time signatures. Wish I could do it. But now that you mention it there is a kind of unpredictability in the music that I can't otherwise place my finger on other than it must be that.
If you listen from :49 to 1:20 (verse and pre-chorus) it's 6/4 throughout. Count off in groups of 6 and you'll hear it. The last time before the chorus (at 1:16) adds 2 extra beats though, making it a full 2 bars. The chorus itself is standard. Yeah this is a weird one lol
There was never a video for "Christmas Wrapping", so a fan put together one using clips from this vid and "I know What Boys Like". It's a shame we have no visual record of the band performing their best-loved song.
