I think you guys hit the nail on the head here with your explanation. I'm getting tired of hearing people saying the pike deaths didn't have many big A listers but you can have a more impactful scene that's is even better than the comic choices and honestly I think it was more emotionally devastating. Even just seeing Rodney and Addy being basically kids being murdered like that is brutal and how people like the higwaymen risked their lives when they didn't even need to and then seeing Tammy die after just receiving a child with Earl and seeing many relationships break with Alden, Carol, Ezekiel and Lydia being affected was also brutal! They picked great choices to drive the story forward and it worked better than the comics!

Remember the marks on Lydia's arms? Alpha was having Beta whip her so the pain, or enduring the pain, would make her stronger, just as Alpha would whip Lydia's arms to make Lydia stronger.

This is the happiest Daryl has at least "looked" since Jenner's lab at dinner, and also the most Norman Reedus-y Daryl has ever looked on the show lol.

When we were first introduced to Negan, I never thought I would see him as a hero, putting his life on the line for a little girl and a dog

The Calm Before was more turbulent and The Storm was more calm. Love that they did the episodes that way.

Also Alpha and the Whisperers went down south before the storm. She told Ezekiel the winter will be harsh and like wild animals living in the forest they migrate south to avoid the winter. That's why the scene with Alpha we can see good weather and then in Alexandria a storm. @Blind Wave

Angela Kang said that the whisperers migrate south or to a warmer place during the winter...that is why there is no snow.

Daryl should have called Alden "Savior" just to taunt him a little after he was rude to Lydia.

I just absolutely love the fact that Jude has a small little connection with all the cast. Just imagining King Zeke telling her stories on the radio and hunting with Daryl.

Daryl didn't accept Lydia just because of Henry. The moment Daryl realized that Lydia was abused, he was on her side. His first priority was the communities, so he had to turn her over to Alpha to negotiate some kind of peace, but I have no doubt in my mind that he empathized with her. Abused children are programmed to blame themselves when something goes wrong. Lydia could easily turn out to be a shadow Daryl, but I get the feeling that Daryl isn't going to allow that to happen. The snow fight at the end was for all the children, but it was also for Lydia to experience happiness. JMO, of course. :-) ♡

Henry went to the Hilltop to learn smithing to fix the pipes & help the rot at Kingdom. They set that up 10+ episodes ago. And Eric was spot on with the Whisperers having left for warmer terrain. On Talking Dead they confirmed it & they confirmed the whisperers also took their herd of walkers with them. So the herd wasn't frozen or anything. Also she let him hit her to "make her stronger". As shane said it's something done in cultures around the world but for Alpha they said on Talking Dead she sees it as making her stronger. She believed hitting Lydia made her stronger remember so it's been set up that they think like that.

Goosebumps intro made me laugh and gave me chills. Very well done

Darryl never hated having her there. He wasn’t going to give her back from the beginning because he sympathized with her over her mother’s abuse. He always wanted to keep her.

Episode 15 This episode in the end gave me more questions than answers. How would the "ten" be so easily kidnapped from the Kingdom? I think there is a traitor. But who? => Ezekiel. Watch the episode again. Jerry's wife tells him that the king is missing the beginning of the movie because he is fixing the plumbing (where is Henry). Ezechiel is with Alpha just before to give him clothes for the winter. I just found that weird, do not you? Right after, Alpha enters the cinema next to his daughter. Ezekiel is not seen again until after Lydia comes to announce that she is looking for Henry. If there are suspense made to surprise the fans of the comics, we do not know what Ezekiel really did during all this time. For months, Ezekiel has only talked about the fair to reunite all communities. What worse info during episode 16 if we learn that Ezekiel has betrayed his own? The "bomb" of this end of season is perhaps there. In the trailer of episode 16 he looks at the famous "pikes". But look well, he looks at those of the dead on the hill (especially Tara with whom he had to finish signing the famous pact of defense of the communities) but not that of Henry. Alpha has trapped Ezekiel. She threatened to kill her son (whom the whisperers had captured). In exchange for his life (Ezekiel loves Henry more than anything else), he betrayed his own. After all, he is the man whom everyone trusts! To punish him for the loss of his daughter (who does not want to join her anymore), she has Henry taken and taken to the whisperers to make him feel the loss of his child. She threatens to declare war (she will do it later with Daryl) if he tries to find his son. She uses another head that looks like him to believe in his death. At what moment? Siddiq says he sees everything (the decapitated heads I imagine too) and then he's knocked out. What need to knock him out while Beta and the others could easily tie him to a tree like Henry in episode 12? My theory: just after that, they took Henry with them (instead of killing him) and put a head that looked like him on the "pikes" to make others believe in his death. Let's see the dead: - Alexandria (2) - patrollers of the road (2) - the hilltop (5) - the kingdom (1 = Henry) It's more than strange ... The hilltop is the real community affected. The medallion "H" full of blood at the beginning of the episode annunciated it. You did not find Ezekiel very little expressive during Siddiq's speech while his beloved son "just died" in the worst of ways? The enemy from the inside may be him. "Lydia's" H "medallion on Henry's" pikes "wants to say his name first for her, but he also says hope as the husband at the beginning of the episode told his wife. And if we saw Henry again? Production says he's dead but GOT, for example, made us much worse for an entire year for Jon Snow's supposed death. Episode 16 confirms my theory (which still holds for the moment). In the beginning, Ezekiel looks at the chart (thoughts to Tara he betrayed?) While in total opposition Carol looks at the memories of his son Henry with sadness. Ezekiel looks closely at Tara's signature (who is dead and probably betrayed). His sentence behind is not trivial: "The cowards die many times before their death (reference to him) .The brave only taste once to death (reference to the people he betrayed and who fought until 'at the end)". 2nd step: Carol says to go through the "pikes" and says "we did not validate these borders, it's his not ours". Ezekiel says: "And if we start a war, we can do nothing against them" => fear for his people but perhaps also for the life of his son (reminder of the threat of Alpha to Ezekiel according to my theory). 3rd stage: speech between Michonne and Ezekiel: "I should have anticipated, evacuate earlier (the kingdom)". Why did not he do it? (feeling guilty during those months of going to the hilltop after secretly betraying them to save his son and his family?). Michonne: "This woman was able to infiltrate us because we did not know each other." Look well, Ezekiel clearly drops his eyes. "It must not happen again." Ezekiel turns to Michonne and looks guilty. Michonne's speech is very striking (compared to a traitor Ezekiel): "These people are no more than yours, they are ours, and we will bring them back." Reference to episode 15 that I speak in theory (Ezekiel betrays other communities). Reply Ezekiel: 'If they see us through, it will go wrong' (implied: the threat of Alpha on the life of Henry he can not confess). Michonne: "Then we will not be seen". Very concerned look of Ezekiel. 4th step: the scene of the "pickes". Ezekiel looks at those on the hilltop. Like a person who thinks of his betrayal of Tara and his family. He does not bear a single second eye on the one where there was his son, not a single second while he loved more than anything (strange?). At the same time to differentiate completely, we see Lydia remains frozen and sad in front of the "picke" Henry where she had placed the famous medallion H (Henry and hope) a few months earlier. Step 5: Alpha tells Beta "I need to be stronger" and she gets whipped by Beta. Reference to the fact that she did not kill her daughter (and maybe Henry). Just behind is the plan with Ezekiel that appears. Ezekiel to Judith: 'to leave one's place of life is not to leave one's home.' It could be interpreted in the sense of Henry who has gone from the sedentary world of the Kingdom to the nomadic and "animal" of the whisperers . Judith: "you said it." Ezekiel is in his thoughts (does he think of Henry, who is in the whisperers during that time?).

Honestly Tara was sadder to me than Enid. Lots of people have forgotten her story arc in Season 4 5 and 6. She was awesome.

About the kingdom. Keep in mind that Henri was the one doing the repairs as they came along. With him gone, it was bound to get way too messed up

That is, without a doubt the best intro I have ever seen to a walking dead reaction! :')

Lydia did not get everybody killed. Remember when Jesus was killed by the whisperer, well we didn’t see Lydia in that group, but she was on the bridge when they were taking Jesus’ body back, and Daryl ripped Lydia’s mask off and he said let’s take her back, and Michone looked at Daryl and said take her back? And Daryl said let’s go! Henry was in the cell next to Lydia and they started talking then Daryl released Lydia to her mother and Henry pursued her. Lydia is completely exempt from all of this! Daryl captures Lydia & Henry and told Alpha that you can’t have her, and Connie told Daryl when they were running from Alpha that Lydia has no friends in a note and so Daryl having a heart said that they all were together! Alpha just wanted her daughter and they would have walked away, but Alpha would have found Daryl & group eventually especially when a few whisperers got killed for killing Jesus in his last episode. Daryl, Carol & Lydia are domestic abuse survivors and Daryl especially understands her. All of them did evil at one time another. Rick come on, he’s my favorite character but Him & Morgan killing those saviors in season eight episode 13 or 14 (can’t remember) but that’s why I love Negan saying that people don’t think that their doing evil! He thought that he was right, and Rick thought that he was right etc. Negan has been redeemed and there’s a bigger arc for him. Alpha was getting whipped to strengthen her and she felt weak so she’s punishing herself. It was Eugene’s idea fixing the radio & Rosita helping him. They showed it last season.

They explained why there is no snow during the Whisperers scene on Talking Dead, they weren't in the area. The idea is, since they are "like animals", they migrated south when colder weather was coming and will go back once winter is over.

Great intro!! The Whisperers migrated South, they weren't even there when the group crossed the border. Beta said the time away has done the pack good. That scene was meant to be after winter. As for Carol, she told Daryl that Ezekiel was taking it out on Daryl because he couldn't bring himself to take it out on Carol. Ezekiel, deep down, blames Daryl and Carol for Henry's death because she sent Henry to Daryl and Daryl let Henry bring Lydia back, so it was inevitable. Very sad, though. She was right at the beginning, it was all make believe-a fairytale. 😔😔😔

Fear Crossover! It was Althea from Fear. She is calling telling them that Morgan found Rick. Rick lost his memory. Has 4 trash lady kids. New name is Michael Jordan. They are in Chicago. Morgan found him and Rick is starting remembering everything.

Magestic Ezekiel, how much can be ripped away in one episode. His son, Shiva, the Kingdom and his wife Carol. Rip to the horses at Sanctuary. Missed Connie so much, Lydias champion and Daryls taken up the mantle. Negan and Michonne are powerhouses, individual and together. I feel the communties shouldve been more prepared for winter. The chimneys fixed, plants brought inside. Judith needs to stop running off. Wish Rick was on the radio. Angela Kang has brought twd back.

I don't think all the pike deaths were meant to be impactful to the viewer. Even in the comic, there were some red shirts. They were more there to provide diversity of the communities. There was at least one from each community except for Oceanside. But yeah, you can see with the way they set it up, you were meant to be like meh at first then slowly be like noo... nooooo... NO, not Carol's kid! She can't lose another... or in the comic, someone else. I don't think 15 was slow at all. This one is, but not in a bad way. A little bit of a calm and redemptive episode balances things out and isn't predictable. Love the Negan stuff most of all.

Going into the episode I had a feeling the pikes were happening but had convinced myself Ezekiel and Rosita were going to die and I was at peace with that. Enid and Tara were my favorite characters and they both died...a year later and I'm still devastated.

We don't hear her answer then...but we see her answer in the end when she chooses to go back to Alexandria with that group. How DARE Ezekiel tell Daryl not to come around Carol?! Like, dude, why are you feeling so threatened?? XD
