Carl was without a doubt the worst character death that made no sense at all. I always hoped that the show would have the "old carl" ending with Carl telling Judith the story of Rick. It explains anything the viewer of the show may have thought wasn't realistic and would have been the best ending.
It would have been best for old man Carl to be the ending....at least we got it in the comic. Seems the show is the reversal...Judith died in the comic - but lived in the show to be able to have a nearly same show ending, as the comic?
Chandler Riggs had good reason to feel safe, at the beginning of season 8 Gimple told him he looked forward to working with him for several more seasons. And Riggs did by a house in the Atlanta area (actually a renovated 19th century church) so the kid got royally screwed. BTW, I saw the house on Air B&B and Chandler has a twisted sense of humor, there's a kids room with a play loft and a flower mural on the wall with "Just look at the flowers" script.
They messed up big time with Carl, i believe that's a reason Andrew left. Biggest mistake on the Show for sure! They screwed up Andreas character by dumbing her down, falling for the gov and not seeing him for who he really was. Miss Madison and Jesus immensely and hate they are gone! Oh and Dale too. That was one of the saddest deaths for me, i cry like a baby every time I see that scene with Rick freaking out, trying to get Hershel to save him. Sorry brother! 😥
Yeah, the writers did well with the show version death of Dale...it had gore and emotion...made for a sad moment and showed Daryl to be a friend and leader.
She was terrible and made worse by the writing but I definitely think it would’ve tolerated her more, and felt it more realistic if she ended up with Rick.
Totally agree, they wrote her horribly. A lot of people did not like Andrea understandably but it it wasn't the actors fault. I was totally shocked when they killed off Carl. Tom Payne could have been amazing as Jesus, they way they made him look in the introduction, it took both Rick and Daryll to take him down and then he escapes and comes to talk to Rick. That should have been the badass character we knew but they watered him down I thought, so much potential, he could have been the next beloved Daryll type character
In defense of the actress who played Andrea, it's hard to do your best acting when your character is doing stupid things, and you know it deep down inside. For example, ditching her BFF Michonne who saved her life not once but twice for a guy you hardly know, only an insecure woman would do that and Andrea was not insecure. Shooting Daryl when they told her not to shot. Not going to the prison sooner even when her gut told her to. Wasting time getting the plyers by talking to a dying man. Not staying at the prison the first time she went. I can go on for another paragraph with the dumb stuff the writers had her doing.
@@yoshr02 yeah but considering the shit writing she would’ve just been a background character till out of nowhere they just kill her off and expect us to care
They had Tom training his ass off in martial arts only to not use his talents until one big death scene just like Carl's on big death scene. I'd be mad too
The ones that were done the worst was Chandler Riggs, Laurie Holden, Kim Dickens, and Lauren Cohen. Carl should have lived till the end, Andrea should have been written so much different from season 1 and onward, Madison should not have died, and Lauren Cohen just wanted to get paid as much as the leads considering Maggie became kind of a lead character in season 8.
Lauren Cohen was a relative nobody before the walking dead...I am sure she gets paid plenty. She went off to try to carry a show on her own as a co-lead, but it tanked because she is only known for her role as Maggie. No-one cares about her outside of her Maggie role , she has no clout, she should be happy to be a working actress.
It isn’t Kim Dickens fault Madison was a horrible character, but Madison was a horrible character. Most of that family was horrible. Those characters were anchors that had been dragging the show down for three seasons. The only reason it is still around is that they were finally killed off and replaced with good characters.
I do like your points but would like to add some more clarity. For Frank D leaving, it’s Moore likely his fallout with AMC was due to them giving Frank a 1/3 less of the budget he had in season 1 (a critical and ratings hit) and told to make 13 episodes with the same quality. For Andrea’s death, there is a confirmed report that originally Andrea was supposed to live. Laurie H (the story that feels more likely) said how Glen M changed her death because it’d be “shocking” and no one would see it coming”. In which Glen H was fired and never worked with AMC ever again. 1 I would like to add is Beth’s death. A few interviews I read about Emily K feelings on it has an undertone that she didn’t see her death coming. The same way Emilia Clark was shocked (although not walking barefoot in the streets shocked) about what happened to her character. I’ve read how Scott G planned for her to die since season 4. But if THIS was the way he wanted back in season 4, then he’s an even shittier writer than I thought. 4 episodes of us finding Beth’s alive trying to rescue her all gone to waste. Effectively 1/4 of season 5 was pointless (although I’d add episodes 9 and 10 as well). I’m going to roll Carl and Jesus into 1 and you’ll understand why. Scott Gimple should have been fired... Fired right after season 5. I gave Glen M heat for stupidly killing off Andrea but that doesn’t compare to the shit Scott Gimple did. He killed off Carl because he woefully took a slight error in the comic where Negan just all the sudden stops fighting Rick to hear his speech. And decided the best way to “fix” that was to kill off Carl... Only to have the exact... same problem... in his version!!! And this extends to Jesus and how after season 6 he basically cut quite a bit of his comic content that by season 8b he’s just a background character. Scott Gimple damaged this show way more than Glenn M ever did. 4/11’s of the show is damaged because of this idiot. He should be vilified and despised like how David B and Dan Weiss are with Game of Thrones. And you wanna know what the WORST part is. Although it took 8 years for HBO to finally get his of those 2 frauds, AMC STILL employs Scott Gimple. We could have gotten Frank D, a man who actually gave a crap about the little people, the people behind the sets that aren’t just the actors. I guy who actually cared about the source material. We could of had his vision for the show. And that should haunt you.
I’m mad about the way they did Chandler Riggs. He was still young and learning his craft. I’m also very mad at Andrew Lincoln for quitting. Broke my heart.
He quit mainly because he didn't like the storyline anymore AMC ruid a lot of the series by making personal decisions than what the fans wanted. There main f*** up happened in season 2 when they fired the main guy who brought up the idea of the show.
Out of all the characters, they done Andrea the worst. She was meant to stay till the end, and she was a wicked actress. They basically gave her no warning they were going to kill her off.
Darabont is a genius and needs to be working again. this is nuts. So so good creator. Wish he would get back onto the movie/tv world. the lawsuit gave him a black eye/red target for sure. sad
They never really fleshed out her character. She was just starting to form a relationship with Darryl when they snuffed her out. I was so pissed off with that.
Laurie Holden was a great actress imo, but the way they had written Andrea is why people hated her lets be honest. why make her a peacemaker for a literal psychopath AND make her fall in love with him then decide to kill the character off for shock factor. season 2 Andrea was great honestly, she was like the first woman in the show to step up and become stronger but season 3..... ye.
I read somewhere that the actor goth death threats because of the scene where Andrea shot Daryl. I think she was a great actor but people like to shit on actors who plays bad characters
Laurie Holden (who is NOT a bad actress) was in a similar boat as Chandler Riggs, she was in the process of buying a house in Atlanta because she was originally contracted for 8 seasons and told she was gonna make it until the end of the series since Andrea was basically the tritagonist of the comics.
Chandler just needed time to develop as an actor. He was playing against actors in their 40s that have had numerous jobs before this, coaches, etc. He didn’t need to be the star to take over once Andrew Lincoln left but killing Carl off was not necessary. Plus the writers gave half of Carls storylines away to other characters. How can he grow if he isn’t given the story either 🤷🏻♀️
lol you were right about Kim! And the absolute irony of AMC getting rid of the awesome Frank Dara Darabont only to use his tool using walkers aka "varients" in the end. Really looking forward to FTWD's final season and the upcoming two projects dead city and Rick's series.
Carls was the worst killing him pissed me off but the way he died pissed me off more, how can such an important character die by tripping. If your going to kill him off do it in a blaze of glory not "oh no I tripped... oh no I'm dead"
It's so stupid The girl that plays Judith is a great little actress but how can you make the show go on without time jump after time jump? Everyone would be in the grave or a rocking chair by the final episode.
Yeah why did they kill him off like his character had so much a head of him I feel bad for Chandler riggs he a great actor I thought they would do more with him.
Chandler Riggs said he didn't bring his A-game because he was also trying to take final exams and graduate from high school. I can't fault him for that.
Hi. I think it was the writers fault that Chandler couldnt act good as a young man. His writing as a kid was amazing, and therefore we got amazing acting. They wrote him boring, uneventful until the day he died, then they gave him some real action. Also Chandler said in an interview before was fired that he didnt like the way his character was going and that he was getting bored. Then they fired him, I think because he said what he said.
I'm glad somebody said it, im glad he admitted it, baby Carl was way a better actor than teenager Carl and I dont get it at. all. Aren't you supposed to improve over time? He played himself.
I miss Kim Dickens/Madison the least and I feel bad saying that because I’m sure she did her best. I felt like the actors who played her husband and son outshined her by far. It’s a shame they wanted to leave.
I agree. I was so pissed that her husband and his son died while her and Alicia thrived. I found it infuriating and stopped watching. I loved Nick, he adapted pretty quickly to the zombie world, but I also heard he wanted to leave. I do wish they could have done it like Maggie and Rick’s exit, where he could come back if all parties agreed.
@@blondesense1708 No episodes have a crazy blockbuster budget. That's one of AMC's biggest failing. Also one of the reasons Darabont was upset. Also, as much as I love Darabont, his episodes are a little overrated. Season 5-6 was TWD at it's peak.
@@gregoriouscwadley4204 season 5 was ok, but season 6 is downright garbage. No, seasons 1-4 are the best on the show. 9 and 10 were really good, don’t get me wrong, but 1-4 was quality tv. Darabount getting fired was the worst decision that AMC ever made.
I still wanna know what the hell happened to Heath on TWD. He was on a couple week long supply run with Tara and he just disappeared. No body. No death scene. Nothing. Then the show did the 6 year time jump and he was just kind of forgotten about.
Hey James, you forgot the lil Sophia... They really turned the comics story upside down when they filmed that 'Barn' scene. For Madison, now her return should probably be linked with Commonwealth or any other community.. to provide some foundation for a time jump.
From what I’ve heard, Sophia’s actor or the actors mother wanted her out. There was nothing that really could be done. Considering how comic Sophia only gets interesting until after All out War, I’d say it’s not much of a loss. Although who’s to say she could be better. I’m sure people thought Carol was a goner back in season 3.
I think you've got the Laurie Holden situation wrong. She was another casualty of Frank Darabont. He hired her and the new show runner wanted her gone for that reason
I personally feel that if they never fired Frank, then TWD we have today would have never existed and probably for the better. Andy Lincoln would’ve never left the show, Carl wouldn’t have been killed off due to Scott Gimple’s terrible show running. The show would’ve panned out in a much more natural, fluid and entertaining way. But for like a long time, there was a point where I outright stopped watching the show for a year or two because of how bad the writing was. I’ve since rewatched the entire series up to the latest episodes TWICE OVER. I can honestly say, they made a huge mess after Frank got fired.
Agreed I like Frank he made it comic accurate, as well as added some cool interesting stuff for comic book fans, so they wouldn’t expect certain things then I am she took over and turn the series into a cash grab with spinoffs that aren’t really good the show isn’t even comic accurate anymore it’s just awful in the final season episode did not feel like an ending felt even more like a cash grab just using the finale to market the spinoffs
Always hated the departures of Andrea and Beth, and Madison. How can you sack the main character, fucking beyond me. Also Nick, there was so much to work with there. Since then they turned Alycia into a mindless blob. I really thought they would develop her to be like her mother. Not so.
I thought Andrea was a pretty cool character - she had a slightly annoying personality but that's fine; it would be less interesting if every single character perfectly likeable... she had a unique attitude and an idiosyncratic swagger but she evolved and was definitely one of the good guys... don't see why people don't like her...
Chandler Riggs was done DIRTY by AMC and Scott f***ing Gimple! He was given a two year contract and then was killed off. He was lied to a screwed over. Now Carl, in the first couple of seasons, was an annoying little kid. His character got better after Lori died and he actually became quite the fan favorite (judging by the backlash) and was killed off because AMC didn't want to pay him an adult salary. Gimple didn't have the stones to stand up to the network. If anyone has the right to be pissed at the network, it's Chandler Riggs.
This is why I missed the original writer for The Walking Dead. He made it more comic accurate, but also added some cool twist for comic book fans. Now the show really isn’t an a Tatian anymore. It’s more of just using The Walking Dead brand and telling a different story you can’t call that adaptation
Lyndsey Register was a fine actress, and her character should have been so much more, but one character should've been more I thought was Frankie, who emerged a good character killed off too early
I've always said they did Laurie Holden dirty.. they butchered her character and didn't really give her a chance to grow. I wish they had kept her on the show a few more seasons.
yeah i knew years ago they pulled some shit, i never read the comics but you could tell it was either Carl or Judith's story actually being told in the show, not Rick's, i knew in time Rick would be gone and the show would continue because Carl would be around, well we know how that went. Carl felt so premature, and in the end that departure was what saw Andy leave, Rick stopped evolving for him apparently. And now that they only have Judith and she's not a strong enough actor to carry the show, well yeah, now its the Negan and Daryl show..
Andrea shot Daryl that's why she got fried lol..no they all should been longer on them shows Scott should've got booted. Angela King doing much better job but they said they wasn't trying to fallow the comic. In a interview with Robert said that.
I think Laurie Holden is a great actress and Andrea should have been written that she got with Rick as opposed to Michonne. Though the way she was written in the show made sense that she got with Shane.
Lauire holden was a great actor on the walking dead perfectly cast, when Frank left the show it just felt different and the writing for the main characters turned to crap
AMC fired him because they were trying to get him to do more work for less money/budget and he rightfully said "fuck that." It's a shame, because the show clearly started going to shit without him. It was never the same.
I thought Laurie Holden did a great job as an actress, the writers eviscerated the character. It was such a departure from the comics, and her character arc wasn't believable. She did the best she could with the way they chose to write the character.
so sad they killed carl, wish theyd just talked to him, he was 17 ffs! im sure he would have upped his game big time without andy around and lil judy growing up
It truly was better than GoT when I first got round to watching it in its entirety in 2020 but once Rick's group left that abandoned shack, it went heavily down hill
Actually I had a conversation with Tom Payne, that's not exactly what he said to me. As far as Riggs goes, I also had a talk with him, actually on December 10 2018, I knew something wasn't right with him and he was not himself that day. And of course when I got home from the Jersey Walker Stalker, well watching the season 8 mid season finale I understood why Chandler wasn't pretty much not himself that day. I followed his story and him and his dad were in Gimple's office and ready to sign a 3 year contract because Riggs was willing to wait to go to college. It did come down to the raise he wanted as an adult. Chandler can act, when giving the lines, he wasn't lazy. We saw it in episodes 8&9 of season 8, Chandler can act. It's funny Gimple killed him off ( fired him) and with that 3 year contract his character as Carl would had ended in season 11. Sometimes you have to take what Gimple says with a grain of salt. I have heard different opinions from different actors. And I trust their opinions. I been going to Walker Stalkers for quite a few years now. And got to know quite a few of the actors....they are all wonderful people.
@@TWDExplained I understand.... reading articles. I love talking and laughing with the actors and getting hugs. They are all good people and love their fans.❤️ Really missed those Walker Stalkers this pass year💔
Yes - I enjoyed the conventions. My best times with the actors were when they did not have a line (these were minor/older characters like Emily Kinney, Sarah Wayne Callies, & Sonequa Martin-Green) The conversation allowed was longer. I had also met the Sons of Anarchy guys at a WSC...including Ryan Hurst. I was able to spend some time with Michael Rooker at a film festival several years ago - I really like that dude. But all of them were good people and nice.
@@TWDExplained Michael Rooker was so good to me. I noticed no one was in his line, lol so I stood there until his body guard told me that Michael was going for a photo shoot event. So I was ready to leave and Michael yelled at him and told him to let me go see him. Lol he said " Let her come and see me because she was telling Michael I love you" He wasn't doing selfies that day only autographs. But he did a selfie with me and gave me his autograph for free. He said it was my lucky day🤣😂❤️. He talked to me for only about 10 minutes and had to go. He was so funny. I had to wait in line to see Sasha. I also saw Michael Cutliz and he told me an earful too. That was a Walker Stalker right after he was killed off. I lucked out 2 years ago with Norman Reedus and got into his line right away. Me and my husband talked to him for about 40 minutes. I had him cracking up, lol he said he will always remember me😂🤣. Andmy husband is a biker, so him and Norman were talking a lot about their bikes. Norman is a real nice guy. Not only I had him laughing his ass off but everyone else too, except his bouncer he was grumpy 🤣😂🤣😂. I seen so many actors and spent a good dime, but it is so worth it. I keep all the autographs in my big poster book and I have all their selfies in my computer now. Great memories. Scott Wilson was friends with 2 of my uncles. I use to bring him homemade oatmeal cookies. We were all so upset when he passes away. Which is why I understood why Scott was hugging me and crying when I last saw him. I wish I had known he was sick. So heart breaking💔💔😥 Got to meet Ryan Hurst back in 2017 before he was Beta. Bet his line was just as bad as Jeffrey Morgan's.....I spent 6 hours in his line when Negan appeared on TWD.
All of this proves it's easier to write a comic than make a TV show. I do think all of these actors were done wrong and I have read very little of the comic book. I do agree that Riggs could have put more effort into Carl because the last episode he played in was awesome. He put his heart into it and it showed. Why Gimple didn't give him a warning I don't know. That could've changed so much and we'd have a different show. I didn't get a notice that this video was made, so I went by TWDEplained channel and there it was. I thought maybe the bomb had you shutdown. Anyway stay out of trouble up there in Nashville.
Now fear the walking dead got people thinking alica Immune to the virus that's why fear Partially sucked we lost valuable characters on the walking dead that died because of a walker bite
I thought Chandlers dad caused the issue becasue his dad wanted his son to get more $ in his contract and AMC said nope. Plus he was growing up too fast versus the comics and it was causing issues
The Walking Dead has screwed over nearly every single character except Negal (strangly) AND the fans. And they just kept doing it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again where now this once great show is a damn teen drama.
They would have never killed Carl off. It was because of Chandler's father. His father was trying to create his own profits from his son's success. Toxic parents are terrible. Sorry Chandler. Carl was my favorite character..because of the novel.
"[Frank Darabont] seemed to be an a-hole a little bit maybe behind the scenes." Really? "The guy that got fired after the first season?" That's the depth given to Darabont's exit by a channel called "The Walking Dead Explained?" Wow. Someone really needs to do their homework.
Andrea was a horrible character, although she had promise at first. I was glad to see her go. She could have redeemed herself by killing the Governor but she failed at the one job at which she needed to succeed.
