Michonne's friendship with Jocelyn is like Rick's friendship with Shane. They trusted them based on that alone and it hurt them and others because of it. Michonne became a dictator like Rick did in Season 3 as a result.
Michonne (Danai Gurira) needs more praise. She's one of the few actors besides Rick (Andrew Lincoln) that can perform well in physical and dramatic acting. She also performs many of her own stunts and she's a trained samurai warrior.😎
Ryan’s TWD Channel Andrew Lincoln is literally one of the best actors of all time. Nobody does crying as good as him and he has to do it with a accent the whole time
Probably the darkest episode of the series for me. The actress who plays Michonne deserves so much acclaim for this one. The line about them wearing “mask” to hide their true intentions is much deeper when you think of the fact that Alpha and the whisperers also wear mask.
I loved how at the end when Judith said “Do you think it’ll leave a scar?” Michonne said “No, but it’s okay if it does.” Kinda symbolizes that you can overcome your internal scars and they aren’t your end. You just embrace em and learn from em.
This is an amazing episode. Glad you guys enjoyed it too. Alot of people didn't for some reason, but I thought it was extremely powerful and was definitely needed to explain why Michonne & Daryl both had become so distant from the rest of team family. Great reaction. Can't wait for the next one!
In pretty sure Daryl killed kids too cus when he walks out of the doors his knives have blood on them! It was never confirmed but the only way blood will have gotten into his knives would have been if he killed something! Probably some of the children! 👍🏻😬
Every time I see this episode, it reminds me of all the child warriors in the world, fighting for some greedy warlord. Sickening. These kids were brainwashed, and not at fault, which makes it all the sadder that Michonne had to kill them. And having to live with it created a much deeper scar on her soul than any branding iron could make.
I love how they cut the scene between the kids and the walkers so you never see a kid bite the dust. It's all implied by seeing what Michonne does to the walkers. It was brilliantly edited.
If this were on HBO then they would have shown it. I’m not saying killing kids would be intriguing to see but if this show was on HBO we would have seen much darker moments in earlier seasons.
@@blizard9701 Killing children in any form of media is very heavily frowned upon and sometimes even illegal. You can have children die in movies, shows and video games but killing them is a completely different ballpark.
Yep, that’s Tara from True Blood. This episode made me think about two main things: 1. *The group has come across several charismatic leaders from groups that turned out to be nefarious.* The Governor - Michonne saw through him straightaway. Gareth/Terminus - she was suspicious of, but Rick connected the dots quickly after seeing their friends’ belongings being used by the other residents. Negan’s reputation preceded him. They at least knew they were dealing with some form of a violent psycho when they went after the Saviors. She was suspicious of Deanna when they arrived at Alexandria, but Deanna turned out to be a good-hearted leader, albeit slightly misguided at times. 2. *The zombie apocalypse changes people.* We saw Shane sacrifice several people in Lori and Carl’s names. Rick had to ride that fine line between savage and keeping his humanity. Michonne lived a pretty suburban, white collar life before the turn. Hell, even Eugene has even gotten to where he’ll take the lead on some walker-killing. We don’t see Michonne’s usual discernment when Jocelyn ends up at Alexandria. Her walls immediately came down. I mean, it’s hard to blame her when this was a friend from college that she knew pretty well. She immediately took her at face value, which is completely opposite from what she has done before with new groups/new leaders. And it turned out that Jocelyn was gathering her own small child army that she had brainwashed. That oldest boy - I wonder how long she had been with Jocelyn. We all know how impressionable children are. Think about our modern society and how ideologies are learned in the home. How many children are out there that learn things like racism, religious intolerance, survivalist techniques, or outlandish conspiracy theories as soon as they’re able to remember? And then, Judith is kidnapped, presumably to become a part of Jocelyn’s pint-sized cult. I mean, imagine having a friend you’ve known for a while babysit your kid and then you find out that while she’s been babysitting your kid, she’s been taking the kid to ISIS meetings where they have completely radical ideologies and have civilians strap bombs to themselves. Anyone see the movie Blood Diamond? The RUF had recruited a lot of child soldiers, plied them with drugs, and indoctrinated them to their ideology. We see Solomon go through a lot to find his family and rescue his son that was taken by the RUF. Solomon ended up face to face with his own son Dia pointing a gun at him, who was telling his own father he doesn’t know him. So out of everything that Michonne had been through and witnessed, it ended up being actions of a *friend* that was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back, prompting her to put Alexandria into its isolationist state.
Daryl came out late because he killed some children inside of the building, his knives were bloody. It’s crazy because Jocelyn was there for Michonne when her mom died back when there was a world. In my opinion, she was more than just a friend, more like a sister. Daryl and Michonne were both traumatized and I feel so bad.
It’s like Michonne cordons herself and Alexandia from everyone to keep Judith and RJ safe because of the trauma she has experience and it does work for a time but then she realises that Judith is dead set on helping their friends that the only way to actually keep Judith safe is to actually help everyone
No wonder Michonne was acting so differently at the beginning of Season 9... I was really taken aback by where the story behind Michonne and Daryl's scars came from - I really wasn't expecting that at all.. But I was very happily surprised.
This episode always break me, Judith speaks so wisely, and I don't why but that scene when she is talking to Michonne make me cry. Michonne did the necessary for keep Judith and the other kids from Alexandria alive, and I think probably Daryl killed some kids as well, he had blood on him, but he didn't say anything cause he saw how Michonne was. This episode is just awesome.
Cant believe you guys already got to 9x14, it feels like ages ago since i watched the episode but at the same time it feels like yesterday. I feel like a proud parent watching how for youve come
Negan has a way of reading people. Sometimes it works sometimes but doesn't. Negan was able to pick up that Michonne was looking for Judith, but rather than toy with her like he usually would, he addressed the problem and showed legitimate concern.
Daryl did know what happened when he came out to see the dead kids, you can see there's blood on his knives because he was probably clearing out the rest of the kids.
I really look forward to these reactions. Reliving these episodes through new eyes is incredible and the way you two analyze and talk things out is awesome! Having to wait in between episodes is pretty difficult to tell you the truth. Thanks for being awesome you two!
I remember when 414 aired and Carol killed Lizzie, I never thought that this show would leave me as disturbed and shocked or give me that feeling of "I cant believe they took things in that direction." ever again. Yet 5 years later and they actually one upped themselves. Kudos to Angela Kang and Corey Reed and Vivian Tse for putting together this masterpiece. Throughout the season I was always annoyed with the way Michonne had been acting, as if her family in different communities were strangers. But considering she let someone in, someone who was family to her, and things transpired the way they did, well I completely understand why she was acting how she was. Im glad they were able to make it make as much sense as it did. Great reaction as always!
Piggeh603 I knew something was afoot bcuz Michonne ain’t gon act like that for no reason. I just never did and still don’t understand the beef with her and Maggie and Michonne not giving them enough supplies don’t cut it with me especially after Maggie and them knew what Michonne went through.
I've been waiting for this reaction for so long!!! SO glad you guys understand now why things are kinda the way they were as we stepped further into Season 9. I think I cried more watching this reaction than the actual episode when it aired live. Something about kids on this show... man. The episodes that highlight kids always seem to be the most traumatic but also some of the best episodes in the history of this show. Danai Gurira was so incredible in this one (as usual), and beautiful directing as well, so shout out to Director Millicent Shelton for this ep! And what more can be said about Judith (Cailey Fleming). Every scene with her either gets my waterworks going, blows my mind, or pumps me up (or maybe some combination of all three lol). Brilliant young actress.
This was a great episode! Daryl is a master tracker. He knows he should have found Rick's body by now. That's his biggest issue, that's why he won't give up. This was a darker episode and it's hard to watch, but it's a good one.
Very amazing and emotional episode! Poor Michonne and Daryl having to go through what they went through. Just when you think they have experienced all the evil the apocalypse has to offer. Judith is all the good of Carl and Rick packed in her tiny little body! We all need Judith in our lives especially right now. Love you guys! Be safe and healthy! Prayers, health, love and respect coming from me in Surprise Arizona!🙏🥰❤🌞🌹
This episode was one of the deepest ones this season. And the flashbacks do give the scars on Daryl and Michonne a deeper, darker meaning to them. But having her save Judith opens her back up again.
Next episode is the whole reason I started watching RU-vidrs react to this show! I was alone watching it and needed to see how other people reacted to it!
FYI: Steve's "Malachi" comment about Winnie and the other kids is him referring to "Children of the Corn". Also, we were never told if Winnie was a boy or girl. So, stop bashing each other on what the gender of that child is. Thanks
That was probably the most dark episode of the entire show, even darker than 7x01 but it's one of the best episodes ever. The actress that plays Judith is amazing, and Danai Gurira killed in this episode, greetings from Argentina
So dark, probably darker than The Grove in season 4...but such a excellent written episode. So powerful....so heartbroken..especially as a mom. I was balling during this episode when it aired. One of my favorites in the series.
This was an amazing episode, I was soo shocked and horrified, Jocelyn was freaking crazy, and obviously so were the kids, for her to turn on her friend and wanting to kill Michonne who was heavily pregnant was unbelievable and disturbing, love the Daryl/Judith, Michonne/Judith scenes, also fun fact the whisperer who says "we must tell Alpha" is played by Emma Coulter, her father Steve Coulter played Reg Monroe, Deanna's husband who was killed by Pete Anderson in the season five finale.
The redheaded girl who ran up and said the stockroom had been raided, back in the flashback, is one of Negan's former wives, Frankie; I think she might have been mentioned by name/named in a past episode.
@@lmj2k Ah, I kinda remember that now. And that was my point to mentioning it here, not a lot of people (including myself; had to learn it from the wiki XD BTW, if anyone's looking to watch alongside Steve and Lacey without spoilers, DO NOT GO TO THE WIKI) forget who she was, in that they don't recognize her right away. Another, albeit smaller, reason for pointing her out is I really liked how the Saviors were integrated into Alexandrai, with DJ being one of Michonne's most trusted men, in her words, Laura being on the small council, not to mention being trusted enough to go out and look for Judith in the first episode post-timeskip, and Frankie being one of the townsfolk. I dunno, I just really like how the showrunners didn't forget about the Saviors, and have the ones that weren't shown to be killed just fade from existence.
Me too😭 and think when she was talking to Lydia about her regrets and taking all the risks...i believe if it werent for Judith and the other kids and being pregnant, i believe shed let those kids kill her...she has a huge heart for children, even bad ones..
It makes complete sense for why Michonne stopped trusting everything and everyone. Having your best friend turn on you along with kids. Also the boy who cut her stomach is dead. The one that ran off was the youngest girl who was told to kill the kids and decided not to before she saw the rest was dead then saw they was and ran
This was an extremely DARK episode. It makes me so emotional. A variety of emotions.. but I loved it!!! My favorite part of you reaction is when Steve says “Ok, this is when I kill kids” 😂😂😂😂😂 I don’t know if I could have done what she had to do.. amandine episode and an epic reaction!!! You two are so great!!! I am officially ADDICTED to your reactions. I watch them repeatedly lol. The first live stream we did on Zoom.. just so you know.. it was me that Steve heard.. when I clicked in I forgot to hit mute and I was watching one of you reactions 😂😂😂 love you both!!! 💜💜
finally caught up to you guys. Am loving watching this with you guys. This is one of the few show that places the watcher in the show itself. You feel like one of the group members and get close to each person. Their loss is our loss. I have never watched a show that immersed me so deeply. My sister and I have had the same type of discussions you guys have had. Again one of the only shows I have ever watched that not only took me on a journey but made me question 'what would I do'. The situations are so real feeling that you can see yourself in them and in the people. Also watching you two has made me feel like I was watching it with friends. Seeing you guys react brought it all back to me and I got to feel again what it was like to watch it for the first time. Even though I have watched it many times. You refreshed it for me and I think you for that. Especially now, I am alone most of the time with my dog and can only talk to family on the phone, and having you guys come into my home has meant a lot. Thanks again and I can't wait for you to see each new episode. By the way, I also loved the Breaking bad reactions. It was an awesome show, but that was experienced as just watching a great show. Whereas like I said TWD is like taking a ride along with each episode.
Danai Gurira is so underrated, damn! I totally agree to many comments, that especially Danai, Andrew and Melissa have something special in their way of acting - they deliver it to the viewers in such a realistic way. I mean Norman is also great but these three are just special for The Walking Dead. This episode was very tough too watch, great censorship from Stevie - all of us knew that you showed the finger, haha, and of course we/ I did the same back then. Really had to laugh when Judith asked Uncle Daryl what her dad would've done, I directly remembered the scene where Savage Rick bit this fcker to death back in s4. Well and her real daddy would be a great help handling the Whisperers I guess, kinda miss Shane these days! As ever: Stay healthy, all of you guys! Greets from germany
For once, it's not Carol who's putting kids down. While it's shocking and sad, I've always liked how TWD never avoids putting the same risk on kids than on the adults. They're just as vulnerable. I also picked-up on the "Children of the Corn" homage. That's such a great moment when Michonne's absolutely screaming into her ex-friend's face. It's like, "You want to hear me scream? I'll scream your ears off!" Finally, I recall on the "Talking Dead" episode for this one, Danai Gurira said she and the actor who played her ex-friend in this episode both know each other from acting classes in the past.
I appreciated this episode because we've seen characters battle with killing grown ups mostly in the series, but this is powerful in itself because it had so many other factors that were included in the decision (like her past friendship, that she had gotten to know the kids, that they were kids, and that her kids' lives were in danger). Jocelyn had a good gimmick going and I'm sure they used it for a while on many communities. No one wants to kill a kid. It's almost like when Cercei let all those innocent people on the red keep because she thought Dany wasn't going to burn it all down in GOT....well they were both wrong lol Shout-out to Judith coming through with the knowledge...and just being absolutely adorable.
All the years Carol carried the guilt of having to kill Lizzie. She still does. Now its Michonne and Daryl that had no choice in killing kids (Daryl was inside and killed some too) and carry the same guilt. I still wish Carol could tell Daryl about Lizzie, and Daryl could tell her what he and Michonne were forced to do. It would help them all. Their world gives no choices sometimes. Also, Angela Kang used the scenes from Season 4 when Michonne wiped out the little walker herd she was walking with before she decided to find Rick and Carl..before they went to Terminus
After the episode with Carol , Lizzie and Mika; this episode is so cruel...and show us the dark side of the human natural, i cried in this episode (sorry for my english)
Michonne handled her business. I was not mad at her. Those kids were messed up for life. She put them out of their misery as far as I am concerned. Even when offered a different life, they chose to get sliced up.
I wouldn't say they chose since they were hard wired to be deadly, but it's not exactly easy to change the minds of a bunch of brainwashed kids, atleast they don't have to suffer anymore.
As I have said many times before, this show is best binged. You two have found a nice flow. We had to wait 8 whole episodes plus a mid season break to find out WTF happened to Michonne/Daryl. The wait was beyond infuriating. Cause we all knew it had to be major for her to cut ties with so many people she cared for. What were those brands? Months and months of waiting. Yet I can watch this reaction and fully enjoy this episode. That was not the case when it first aired. I eye-rolled throughout the whole thing. I bitched about Jocelyn's "out of the blue" appearance. Henry in general. The lack of community defenses. The lack of fire power that current Alexandria should have, ect. I didn't enjoy this the first time I saw it. I can now. One of the things I like about being a watcher of reactors, is seeing things through other people's lenses. Sometimes I think we get too focused on our own. Thank you for a wonderful reaction and discussion. I'm glad I can appreciate this episode better now. That's thanks to you, both. So until next time, stay safe, and keep on keeping on.
Knowing you guys are getting into mind-blowing episodes like this one have made Tuesdays and Fridays my favourite days of the week! Great reaction guys, stay safe and keep 'em coming!
Fun fact: The actress for Michonne's friend originally auditioned to be Michonne. That's the case with some other actors too. Like, Aaron auditioned for Gareth.
lol was I missing something about you nicknaming that kid Malaki? Btw she was a girl named Winnie, which conveniently rhymes with crazy Lizzie who once tried to kill Judith as well hahha.
They nicknamed the kid "Malachai" because its the name of a psycho kid cult leader from the Children of the Corn film series (based on a story by Stephen King)
Love love love this episode, yes it was horrifying but it brought me back to the early TWD episodes where everything felt like a horror movie. Those kids were INSANE, I mean c'mon they made Lizzie look good. Poor Michonne had to do the unthinkable but who can blame her with the children of the corn coming at her like that. I always knew Michonne had her reasons for being so strict but DAMN, she was right to lock everything down. She was not going to lose anymore children. Funny how both her and Rick had to put down their childhood Best Friends that went psychotic. Another thing they have in common wow soulmates lol. Such an amazing episode and it also trended #1 on Twitter when it aired.
Linus was the blonde *boy* who sliced at her stomach that she did kill. The blonde *girl* who was supposed to kill the kids but ran away was named Winnie. Have no idea where you got the name Malachi from.
@@rachaela4281 Never put that together before. I guess because kids with damaged perceptions of the world (and lack of malevolent deities) have become a norm for this franchise.
Isn't this one of the best seasons? The new showrunner killed it. Who would of thought that with out Rick Grimes the show would get better in a lot of ways.
I'm still in total shock that I'm loving the show without my beloved Rick in it. It just shows what a new show runner can do for the series. Season 9 and 10 is one of my favorites
Lmao at Steve calling that one kid Malachi. Which episode do u think is better between this one and 4x14 (The Grove) when Carol had to kill Lizzie? They're both awesome but I give the slight edge to 4x14.
Thank you mods for all that you do! Thanks to you, the Duos’ reactions are true and real and you’ve made it possible for them to watch without getting spoiled. ❤️
Oh. I can’t wait for Tuesday (I wish I had enough $$ for Patreon but college drained me) I also didn’t like michonnes attitude this season but this episode made me forgive her for that b/c killing children is very traumatizing and it changes you very much.
This was a great episode by Danai Gurira. Really did this well. Finally a lot of answers of why Michonne is how she is now. Where does she go from here?
So you finally have all the answers ;). This was even darker then the episode with Lizzie & Mika in The Grove. I mean, Michonne killing child soldiers basically ?! How do you feel after this episode ??
I've recently started watching you guys a week ago. I must say, I'm hooked on your channel. Keep up the amazing work. I can't wait to.see the next episode. Be well to whoever reads this. 😊
If you reflect back to when Michonne first came to the group, Judith was an infant, and Michonne wanted *zero* contact with her, we later found out she'd had a young son "Andre" I believe, and she lost him when the world changed. Since you did reference in the vimeo version "True Blood" I can finally say the theme to that series has words from TWD to every viewer. "I wanna do bad things to you."
