IN HONOR OF EARL HAMNER The Walton's 45th Anniversary Reunion Walton's Mountain Museum Schuyler, VA March 24-26, 2017 "Life & Death" with permission by Paul Cardall
Through the magic of television, all of these people will continue to entertain audiences all over the world for generations to come. The Waltons is a timeless classic that will continue to endure.
This made me cry. My Mother passed 2018.She and I watched The Waltons every day together . She and my Dad grew up in this era...same age as John Boy and Erin. I miss her and still watch The Waltons every day knowing she is right there watching with me.
May God continue to Bless you with the memories of your Mother. My Mom, too, was raised in the Depression Era. She told us many stories of that time. She died in early 2018 a few months short of being 100 yrs old. The Waltons was masterpiece Television depicting a time, we may soon repeat in our lifetime.
Beulah Bondi was wonderful! "The Pony Cart" is just about my favorite episode. Who remembers she played Jimmy Stewart's mother in "It's a Wonderful Life"?
Beulah Bondi was a wonderful character actress in so many movies. I especially loved her as the adoption woman in the Cary Grant and Irene Dunne movie, "Penny Serenade." To all those wonderful actresses and actor's, thank you for the wonderful memories!
Oh yeah the "The Pony Cart" episode. .I didn't know she was in "It's a Wonderful Life" with Jimmy Stewart Of course it's before my time. Mother liked it every Christmas time she'd watch it, I just never have watched the whole movie..Maybe some year?? RIP Mother..I miss you
The episode when Martha Corrine died, was one the most beautiful episodes ever. The Pony Cart, (with the painted flower), was as good as story telling gets.
Also overlooked: Herbert Nelson (December 17, 1913 - July 19, 1990). On "The Runaway", he was Bennett Holmby, the one whose lecture John Boy was looking forward to attending. He later spoke one-on-one to John Boy and Jim Bob, telling Jim Bob to hold off on thinking about venturing off in to the World. And John Boy says that the personal meeting was better than what he would have heard in the Lecture Hall
Apparently, when Beulah Bondi won her Emmy, naturally, as a very old lady, it took her so long to get up and start walking that the presenters thought she had skipped the ceremony , since she was only on The Walton’s two or three times. As they started into the standard routine of accepting for her, here comes Ms Bondi still walking very slowly through the audience to the stage! She got a standing “O”! I’d love to see a clip of that.
I feel so old after watching this. I pray all the fine folks that was showed here knew Jesus as savior before they left this world! Very fine show! My Grandmas favorite! And one of mine! God Bless
I am 55 years old and I still watch the Waltons 2 to 3 times a week is the most loving show that’s ever been created when I was a little girl of 10 I started watching yet I learned how to be a decent human being from the Waltons I came from a very abusive home so I turn to the Waltons to learn about love understanding and forgiveness I cried watching all the people that have died they were incredible actors all of them
Lisa McAndrews, GOD BLESS YOU, the Waltons was/is a good show to watch, my Mother (she had a whip, like the kind one uses for cattle) & older sisters were verbally abusive (all have died) my oldest sister Emy & my niece Carmen r not, boy do I feel lucky, m having lunch wth. Carmen today, what a grand day it's going to be.
I came from the same situation at home. This show was a break from insanity and a model for how people could treat eachother well. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I grew up with the Waltons. It is forever engrained in my heart. I always wanted to be a Walton. I learned love and morals from the show. It was a show that my mom and dad and me never missed watching.
Every time I visit my Godson's resting place in the mountains of New Hampshire, I think of the Aunt's saying. Something along the lines of a "a unkempt grave is a shameful thing" and I'll make sure everything looks good before I leave.
We have always longed for a time and place where we could reflect on yester-year,. The Walton's were the family that truly made us all long for a simpler and gentle time even though their struggles were many, it was still a place and time where people had respect and love for one another, and would do anything to help their fellow man.
Let's not get carried away. The Waltons were tolerant of other races, but no one else was. Wouldn't be fun to be black or Jewish there then and also remember the little deaf girl whose own father treated her like a freak? No education there for kids with special needs.
I'm 54 a couple years older than Elizabeth Walton and I used to watch the Waltons every Thursday night with my family. I still watch it week day and love it still. We had great shows when I was growing up.
We did , didn’t we ? I’ll soon be 68 . Those years were of home and respect on TV . The kid shows were of innocence. Like the little rascals and the roadrunner . There’s too many to mention . . My era too .
My family deliberately avoided watching this show, as my parents memories of growing up during the depression were pretty awful. But I have since watched the reruns. I was the same age as John_Boy, and as a writer myself I could relate, and found myself wishing to be a part of a big and loving family such as the Waltons.
Beautifully done!... With so many of the cast gone now, I wish that the remainders of the original cast would unite just one more time on TV for us. I grew up with this show, and still consider it one of the best shows ever! Back when family values mattered...
Not many videos put a lump in my throat; this one just did. I loved The Waltons, was its biggest fan, watched it every Thursday night. Loved these characters, and miss these dear actors who portrayed them, especially Ralph Waite and Will Geer, and Earl Hammer, of course. A beautiful, very touching tribute, and perfect, beautiful music to accompany it.
Makes me cry. My Grandmother told me that my Grandpa used to watch this. This show went off the air when I was 9 years old. I have since watched it when I became an Adult. There were many things to learn from the show.
It’s a reminder for those of us that were lucky enough to have grown up in this time with this show. And it shows us how short life really is. If you are still here today in 2019, be even more grateful, for we have many beautiful things to reflect back on. I lost my brother at only 49, we use to watch the Waltons together. We truly are here but a short time , cherish each other, give yourself to others, apply the principles that you have learned back then to today while you still can ....The Walton’s was the perfect example of the then, American family!
I didn't realise so many had passed away !! 🖤🖤 I loved this show I watched it all the time growing up ! I'm in my 50's now and they show re-runs here in England and I still watch them when they do !! It will always be my favourite show, so many characters , brilliantly played it made you feel you were actually there ! Never be another so good !!😭
I am 71 years old now, and have watched the Waltons faithfully for nearly half a century. I never tire of the marvelous writing, the stunning cast members, all portraying Earl Hamner's lovely family in Schuyler, VA. This is, without a doubt, the most worthwhile TV series ever! If you are fortunate enough to visit Schuyler today, today, you will find the beautifully restored Waltons Hamner house, filled with vintage antiques, hearts of pine flooring, and a fantastic, knowledgeable docent who is a cross between Doris Hamner and Olivia Walton (Michael Learned.) They have even begun building a reproduction of the "TV house," which in the fall of 2019, will become a fantastic B & b complete with mill and barn. How many shows remain such a treat after nearly 50 years?
I'm leaking ! ------- The 'Grinch' movie where the grinch was crying and didn't know it, after he found the true meaning of Christmas----- close enough.
The Waltons series was narrated and portrayed so thoughtfully and poignantly. I don't believe anything has replicated that, and watching episodes in my later years has been such an appreciative, much desired welcoming! I was four years old when this premiered😊! Favorite moments: 📺... "The Journey" with Linda Watkins and Earl Hamner, Jr. doing a cameo as her late husband, "Dancing and Joyous!" Also, "The Sinner" with John Ritter as a young 21 yr old, who studied to become a preacher of perceived "perfection". Yet, later realized that growth, understanding and acceptance of imperfection was part of human condition. He learned room for greater elevation, compassion and forgiveness was the path... his lesson was his blessing, first hand❣️ 😊💚*🙏🏽 P.S. Will Geer and Ralph Waite I really appreciated how they depicted loving leadership, protection and morals in those roles, an amazing** impact and continually!
Those two episodes: The Sinner and The Journey were so impactful, you can't help but cry a little inside. Magnificent writing, acting and production. I never watched The Waltons as a child, but I caught up now in my much older age and loving every episode as if Im watching it for the first time. Outstanding series. And a Beautiful Tribute by Roy Castro. Thank you for sharing.
Ray Castro, you did it again! You made me cry watching this beautiful memoriam. I guess it makes me cry because it means I am getting older and I miss that time of my life that I was just a teenager. You Sir, are very good at what you do and I am so happy I finally had the chance to meet you!! All wonderful actors/actresses that are missed today. Earl Hamner Jr. was a great writer and I sure wish the actors guild would of presented that wonderful writer with rewards that he so deserved! The Walton's always brought us to a warm, cozy and loving place on Thursday evenings in the 1970's. I still watch the Walton's every day & evening because you can not match anything like it on tv now. Thank you again, Ray! Hugs
Seeing all the actors who played the Walton's brings back memory's I THINK OF them AS VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE IN MY LIFE they will be forever in my heart of hearts I love all the actors that played the Waltons
This did bring tears to my eyes. That was not everybody. Ron Howard, Sissy Spacek (sp?) the girl that played on Happy Days. And the guy that was Mary Ellen's last boyfriend- I think they got married and there was a wreck. And others. And I did like Matthew Fordwick so much better than Jack Tripper - that was sad. This show kept me company the year after my Mom died in 2012. This show was and still is such a blessing to so very many people. Thank you to all who was involved!!! ❤️💕👏🏻
I was not expected to be so moved by this tribute. I had forgotten how many hours I spent watching The Waltons, believing and loving the performances and stories. Seeing the wonderful actors again was like visiting old friends. Brilliant casting. Thanks for sharing.
About 10 years ago I had the privilege to meet Richard hatch at one of his seminars... I got to spend two glorious days listening to him teach me and several other people to make us better people on this earth... he was without a doubt the nicest down to Earth sweetest man I’ve ever met.. we talked on the phone several times and it was the highlight of my day.. broke my heart when he died I cried for days.. only 71 or 72 to young to die so much talent went with him... I will always remember him in battle star Galactica the TV show where he Played Apollo... he was on the Waltons several times and it was always a joy to watch the TV program and have him in the show the Waltons.. besides my husband he is the second person I will look for when I get to heaven. He was always smiling and making everyone feel like they were number one he will be missed forever!!!!
So many wonderful, great actors who shared their gifts with us all in their turn on this troubled globe. You made our journey a little easier-Thank you!
TORRENTS of tears.... wow and thank you. SO many have gone home or to be with the Lord. This show was amazing grace to my life, and I am so thankful I passed through. I see Ms. Madge, she lived next door to my Aunt in Los Angeles, and was so nice and she knew the Lord. Wow, this is great, and yes yes I cried, but God is good.
Beautiful tribute to all these fine actors and actresses writers guest stars and directors who really made The Waltons what it still is, a truly wonderful show. Thanks for uploading this lovely video! RIP to you all and thank you for what you all gave us!
I have reached the age where more of my friends are remembered than are still here with me. I was saddened to see how many Walton alumni were listed, and surprised at how many my heart claimed as friends, though we never came any closer than the sharing of their talents and themselves. Like Martha Corrine's strength of Ike Godsey's smile and kind nature. Thank you, everyone involved
The Walton's with out a doubt is one of the best television shows to ever come out of Hollywood. This was a fitting tribute to those that have passed on who were involved with the show.
Just now seeing this , I was crying. I love the walton's and still watch the walton's movies I have . What a great family show , seeing grandma an grandpa Walton makes me cry .I lost both grandparents. I continue to watch the Walton movies I have ,God bless every member of the Walton's that are still with us
Beautiful tribute; I grew up with the Waltons from day one when the show aired. I was a little girl and I watched every episode week after week. My sister would laugh at me because I would hum the Walton theme. I bought the entire series on DVD. I hadn't watched them in several years. I even contemplated selling them but I couldn't do it because they're more of a historical keepsake...an era gone by that we will not see again. Today, I started watching them again on my little portable DVD player. I no longer watch TV; I stopped a long time ago but my mom says they're still aired on cable. I watched the reunion video on RU-vid; it was lovely. Thank you for this lovely tribute; it was bitter sweet for me.❤😚
20 years old and grew up watching The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle USMC, and Gilligan's Island as well. My mom knew all the best shows! Currently working on getting all of these series in dvd format so my kids will be able to enjoy them some day.
That was really lovely; to show not only the stars of the movie and the series, but all of the actors that have passed. The original movie, The Homecoming remains my favorite Christmas movie, and I watch it every year.
For anyone who knows anything about the old days, it is amazing that Will Geer and Beulah Bondi ever shared the same soundstage together. Geer was a member of the CPUSA, and Bondi testified at the HUAC hearings that helped further the blacklist.
Very poignant to see so many good characters who graced the show with their talent, many already in the twilight of their longstanding careers. Thank you for sharing this touching video.
So sad how many relative young actors on the Waltons have passed away, many who were in their 20s on the show. Now as my grandpa got older some of my fond memories with him before he was put into a nursing home and eventually passed away in early 2020, was watching the Waltons with him every night. Nothing but great memories every time I watch the show. So many moments that bring tears to my eyes. Just wish we could of watched it years prior while grandma was still alive.
Actually brought tears to my eyes and I'm a 56 year old man. When the television series was on I used to watch it with my grandmother who was from Italy, I learned a lot from that television show and looking back I really bonded with my grandmother more than I realized at the time now that I'm older I understand. Peace out and God bless this community.
I was like 10 or 11 when show started, I grew up watching the Waltons. I still watch it almost every day. Thanks for showing Richard Hatch, still my favorite actor. Grandpa was always flirting with the ladies or at the Baldwin sisters having some of the recipe; always getting scolded by grandma. Corabeth always called Ike MR Godsey even after they were married, and she acted so sophisticated, and was so bossy. It wouldn't have been the same growing up without the Waltons.
Been some great TV series over the decades and especially this century. Mad Men, Breaking Bad and even South Park are wonderfully crafted but there is a genuineness about The Waltons that puts the show on a high plateau. Thank You Earl Hamner for your love of storytelling.
I loved that you put this together. Watching the Walton’s is almost like going home. I loved this show so much and the old fashioned principals portrayed. The people are so dear. Thank you so much I just didn’t realize that so many were gone.
Some of those actors at the beginning were from the Home Coming movie before the television series, but so many other great actors shown here the best of the best actually and now they are all gone.
What a classy array of actors and a show that will never leave us. The Waltons were an inspiration and showed what it was like in good and bad times in being a true family. The stars that have left us were such an important part of the series.
I watch them growing up and still do it was a good time dad and I would watch them together. Now my dad in heaven so every time I watch the show It feels like dad is there watching The Waltons with me.
me too. Watching this memoriam in my own silence, listening to the serene musical accompaniment as each incredible artist is honored across the screen, brings such beautiful memories of all these gifted people who has touched so many lives through their work.
BEAUTIFUL I loved watching the show. Brings me back when I was growing up 64 now . Were people loved their neighbors God and Country. Was afraid to leave your door open. Family and friends always welcome. We played outside. Guns was for hunting. TV was clean and no sex cuzzing and all that junk. How miss those days. For ever gone
I watched The Waltons as if I was part of the family. I did not know Earl Hamner had died, that was a shock. I hope he understood the number f lives he touched with his stories. I particularly loved The HomeComing, it is to this day a must watch movie at Christmas.
