It's so good to see that Tom Bower is doing well. Really enjoyed his memories of the show. They should never have "killed" off his character. And his character's return was ridiculous. I felt sorry for you having to act against that plot.
And that it was a different actor. The new actor's character didn't match Tom's. It wasn't believable to me at least. I felt awful for Mary Ellen when she found out what had happened though.
Just when I think you can’t possibly top yourself, you go ahead and bring us Tom Bower! What a treat to hear him speak about The Waltons! Thank you, Judy, and thank you, Tom!
Judy and Tom were so good together. Curt was a wonderful character. He was perfectly cast as him. Great chemistry between you two. Lovely to see him again. I have watched him in movies through the years. Great actor. Thanks Judy💕
@@judynorton2598 you are welcome Judy. It was interesting to find out why he was killed off the show. They should have kept him. He is a wonderful actor and I loved you two together. Have a great day Judy and I will look forward to the next time .💕
@@melissaphillips3088 I used to think that maybe Tom Bower wanted to leave the show, so they had to kill his character only to bring him back later?? that really made no sense. And Thanks to Tom Bower we now know the truth behind the script.
@@LisaLisa-2023 I always wonder why he left. To think he left because they didn’t want to give him a raise!! It was definitely their loss. They could have made the show much better had they kept him. His character was wonderful . I think about what they could have done for Judy’s character and his . We will never know now.
Great podcast with Tom Bower. So glad you were able to get an interview with him. I love the way he did Curt, and in my opinion no one could ever have taken his place.
I am glad you got to interview Tom. Glad to hear the reason why he was killed off and why another actor played Curt in the Whirlwind. I do wish that Curt was a country doctor a bit longer before going into the army. I loved his no holds back attitude with his patients. Especially with Mrs. Brimmer.
This was the interview I was most hoping you would have. ☺️. Whoever wrote the episode when they brought Curt back couldn't have known the story line very well. Curt would have never done that! That was the only episode I wish they had never done.
I didn't like that episode either. Even if Curt was to have misgivings about returning to Mary Ellen, he never would have deserted his son. And honestly, if Tom had been cast for that episode, I feel like it would have things less believable than they already were. The way Tom played Curt...he may have been a little gruff, but was honorable and loyal, not a deserter.
That episode and the one with Corabeth's look-a-like sister. Still can't watch that one. That's when you know it's time to pull the plug on a series. Anyway, don't know how believable it would have been to draft Curt in the first place with his situation. Just laying the groundwork to write him out which was a big mistake
I think Mary Ellen and Curt were a well matched couple. I liked him. I wish they could have been reunited after Pearl Harbor. Very disappointing Tom Bower/Curt was written out of the series. Thank you Tom for joining us,it means a lot!
Thank you for sharing his wonderful interview with us. He was such a genuine man and actor. May he rest in peace. My condolences to his family and to you Judy. He was a wonderful addition to the Waltons. He and Judy were great together. I loved his personality, plus he was very handsome. It's a shame the ignorant producers did not give him his well-deserved raise. He made an already beautiful show even better with his wit and strong personality, and could have made it even better if he would have remained. All of the episodes with him are the best! Rest in peace.
Wow!! This upload made my whole entire day!! What a treat to see you and Tom Bower all these years later!!! I've never seen him in interviews before. He seems like a wonderful soul. Thank you Judy!! I've said it before and I'll say it again...I love you, I love this channel, and I will always love the Waltons!!
In the movie "Nixon", Tom was cast in the role of Frank Nixon, the president's father...he is outstanding! If you've never seen it, definitely shows how much range Tom had.
Awesome judy getting to have a interview with Tom bower and sharing the behind the scenes with Tom bower and the rest of the Walton cast Tom did great at playing Mary Ellen husband curt or kurt Mary Ellen aka judy he was great at the part he was the perfect man for Mary Ellen definitely enjoy hearing theses behind the scenes judy and Tom thanks for sharing and the info 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm glad that you brought Tom Bowers as a guest on your BTS video. He answered a lot of questions about what happened to his Curt Willard character. He confirmed my theory as to why he left the show, and I was right about the fact that he wanted a raise, and the producers decided to kill Curt off at Pearl Harbor as a storyline. I just wish that they wouldn't have made the episode "The Tempest", which brought back Curt as an angry, hateful impotent character, who would disown his own son. That episode never sat well with me, and I avoid it like the plague.
I loved seeing you talk with Tom Bower, Judy! I thought he was well cast as Mary Ellen’s love interest/husband! The on-screen chemistry between you two was spot on!
The older I get, the more I appreciate The Waltons. I appreciate the relationship between Olivia and John. Your character and Curt had such a great chemistry and both had the strong personality to match!
One of the best shows ever on TV! Johnboy wad my first crush...thought he was the best thing to ever come down the pike! I did not grow up on Waltons mountain but this show got me thru some pretty tough times as a kid...seriously! It was a beautiful & much welcome distraction!
What a special person you are Judy to have people still after all these years later still think so highly of you and contribute to your YT channel, just as us viewers think of you also. Thank you Tom Bower for sharing your insights also.
I dont think I watched this interview when it first came out; thank you for sharing the link in your newest video Judy. Rest in peace Tom Bower. Thank you Judy for helping share his story and legacy.
I loved the episode where Mary Ellen gave birth to John Curtis and Curt had to deliver the baby. You could see the sweat and fear on Curt' face. Excellent acting by Judy and Tom.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful conversation with us. It is marvelous to hear from Tom. One of my favorite episodes of The Waltons is “The Best Christmas.” I loved the chemistry between Curt and Mary Ellen, especially in that particular episode. It is so great to see you both, Judy. Take good care.
a lot of us have missed so much when we were young when we were around great people. Great episode and great to see Tom. He played the part great, was a perfect match for Mary Ellen, and I never liked that Curst was killed , but that happened to families, and the recast was a huge mistake as was that episode. Thanks Judy!
A nice interview with Mr. Tom Bower Ms Judy. Sad that they wrote him and his character out of the show. Absolutely enjoyed watching you both together. A great fit. I think I enjoyed the time when Curt was in training and fixing to be sent to Hawaii as my favorite episode as you as a couple. It was so true to life. And Mr. Tom Bower was/is a great actor. Yes I still watch The Waltons. Hard to believe that it has been some 50 years since the show. Where has time gone ?! Be safe and well Ms Judy. May you and yours have a healthy Happy New Year.
I'm so thankful that you had Tom as a guest on your Behind the Scenes, Judy. My condolences to you and the whole Walton family. Hearing his distinctive voice made me smile. I always felt that Curt was such a strong, confident personality on the show and that you had great chemistry together, even though he was older than Michael Learned!. ~teri bee
Judy I don’t think I watched this. Thanks for sending the link. I am so sad Tom passed away. I so enjoyed you two as a couple. Seems like a very nice man 😢
Thank you Judy. I loved Tom Bower on the show. It was so nice to see him. Great interview. His character could not be replaced. I wish The Waltons was still on TV. It is greatly missed. The show could concentrate on the grandchildren.
I am so glad to hear that I'm not alone in not caring for the episode where they bring Curt back. When watching it recently I was so confused, it wasn't a Walton's story line, it was more a soap opera story. It was really nice to see him again. Thanks, Judy, for bringing him on to share with us all!! 🌼
What a treat! Very interesting and informative. I wasn’t expecting him to be as humble and appreciative a person as he appears to be. I enjoyed this interview. Thank you, Judy.
I always thought that casting a new actor as Kurt was the one mistake in the show that was so hard for me to get over. I still Love the show with all my heart anyway!!! God bless you all all for your fabulous contribution to this absolute blessing!!! 😍♥️🙏♥️😍
Thanks for sharing, Tom. You played the role of a doctor very well...'level-headed' and calm as possible. Mary Ellen was a nurse and you were a doctor, a very interesting match in a relationship
Thanks, Judy - good to see Tom again after all these years - I remember him as a quiet, gentle spirit - I recall a scene we were filming (can't recall the episode) where Curt lost his temper, it was so real to me I actually was scared, I'd never seen Tom like that! By the way, I often found myself immersed in the scenes while filming and reacting emotionally as a crew member - a real tribute to our awesome cast! We truly were family.
Oh wow, wow, wow. This is awesomsauce. Thank you for this New Year Treat! 🥂🥂 Curt had such a dry wit & was so blunt and honest. It's wonderful to see you and your 'ex' reunite, laugh and reminisce together ❤
Went back and rewatched your interview with Tom Bower 2 years ago, in light of his passing. Tom added another dynamic to the Walton family playing Curt, and what always came through was some of his humor with his counterpoint with Mary Ellen. Fans are glad there is a legacy of so many wonderful actors who participated in the landscape of the Walton's and can return to that time and again through the archives.
I would love to see the un-edited version of this interview. I have seen some of Toms interviews and he has some amazing stories. His memories for actors of the past is astonishing. Me I cant remember last week. Lol.
Judy, I have mentioned this before, but my all time favorite episode of The Waltons is the 2 part The Wedding where you first meet Curt. Mary Ellen & Curt had so much chemistry and honestly, I hated that his character was killed off because I wanted to see more stories about the relationship and marriage with Mary Ellen & Curt. Thank you so much for this particular video and bringing Tom Bower on!!! Made my day!!!!
I loved Tom Bower on the Waltons. I loved his character. He was totally awesome. So, Tom thank you for the joy you brought us with your characters on the Waltons, and for sharing your experiences on the show.
I remember being jealous of Curt when Mary Ellen and he got together, hahaha. I was sorry he got killed and really felt bad for Mary Ellen. I'm so glad you had him as your guest Judy. Great episode.
Thanks for the interview with Tom Bower. I worked at the same law firm as his wife, Ursula, in the late 1980's and she had your wedding picture from the show on her desk. She always joked that it was her husband and his new wife, Mary Ellen.
I remember him on an episode of Bionic Woman - remembered him immediately as the husband of Mary Ellen! Both shows were super popular in Singapore in the 70s.
I never could cozy up to Curt when watching the show back when it originally aired. Let me start by saying that a large part of the Walton's success was the stellar acting by the principal and supporting actors. Fast forward a few decades and I have Walton's episodes on dvd to watch anytime I wanted. I realized that my initial irritation to Curt was a subjective one - He played that part so brilliantly that the grittiness he brought forth was totally real and believable. What a great, great actor! It felt a little like "coming home" to see Tom Bower in this video. Great video as usual, Judy.
The Waltons was a show I grew up watching with my sweet mama.. It was such a blessing and it took us to a happy place that we wished we could go with having a bad home life...I still watch it and it is still a blessing... Love and prayers for everyone
The Wedding was my favorite episode. Tom was perfect with Mary Ellen. I wish it had ended differently for them, and they had stayed together, big mistake on the producers. I had a little crush on him. I'm happy to see he's well and still very handsome. Thank you, Judy and Tom. ❤
I would like to thank the Walton family for being the family that help to guide my decisions as a child. I still watch the show as if all the episodes are new.
Thanks Judy, It was great hearing from Tom again. They should have given him the raise. Robert Donner played my favorite character from the show. If they were to a true reboot of the show, his character who be the one I would want to play. As always take care, stay safe and GOD BLESS.
One of my favorite scenes of all is when Mary Ellen says I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last man on earth and then you hear wedding bells. 😂 I just love it!
I so enjoyed this! I was very excited to see Tom interviewed. The Waltons portray a connection to strong family ties, and I think people crave that today.
I enjoy all of your segments. I wish more series had a similar format. I feel like I know the characters especially you better than just from the series. I especially enjoyed Earl's 100 birthday with most of the children cast. Keep them coming. 🙃🙃🙃🙃
What a great surprise to have Tom Bower as a guest, very sympatic actor. I missed him in future episodes of The Waltons. Thank you for the memories. Ms. Judy.
So so sweet for you to bring Tom Bower on . We all know him as Curt ! Very nice couple you two made on the show. Love his strong stoic demeanor. I watch the show every night! The most wholesome thing I kind find on TV. Thank you.
Curt was always one of my favorite characters, it was a shame when they “killed” him off at Pearl Harbor. Even if they had given Tom the raise he asked for when they decided to bring Curt back, it would have been best to leave well enough alone. You two complemented each other perfectly. Curt didn’t sugar-coat anything and his blunt personality was the perfect counter balance to Mary Ellen’s headstrong personality. Thanks again for another interesting behind the scenes Judy!😄😄
Awesome segment with Tom Bower, such a nice interview with him. I always thought he played a great character, was so sorry he left the show, interesting to hear what happened. The plot line with Curt coming back was a strange one that's for sure!
Judy! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this special treat! I know I asked about you interviewing Tom a while ago, and hooray … you did it! So good to see Tom Bower and hear his take on things! I loved the chemistry and relationship between your two characters. You are both such wonderful actors and it was really fun to see you two today! Tom looks great! You, as always, are a true beauty inside and out! Thank you so much!❤️
How sweet! I saw this pop up and eagerly awaited all day until I could watch. You both played off each other very well in the interview especially with how it was like to be a cast member of the Waltons at your respective ages. Tom seems like he has a lot of insightful memories (and like Curt honest and open). You two still make a great partnership and maybe he will be back in another behind the scenes.
This was such a great treat Judy! Thanks for getting Tom on here so we could all see him and get his input on The Waltons. I totally agree with you both on killing Curt and resurrecting him was not a good story line. But I guess I shouldn't complain too much because I did like Jonsey a lot too! You should do a behind the scenes with that actor!
This was Epic ! A Fantastic job Ty for sharing this amazing episode wow it is so cool to hear it straight from the actors you worked with Judy! We Sure appreciated this special episode! Some things I didn't know about Will Geer, Ty 🙂🤝✌⚘
Hi Tom Bower i thought you made a great piolet as Rex but i really loved you as Maryellens Husband. i really loved the both pf you together. Did you have any love connection with Judy As Maryellen on the Show. and did you know how to do a treach on martha rose when she was gasping to breathe.? ❤❤❤❤
Judy, I'm so glad that you were able to bring Tom Bower on as a guest appearance to talk to us about why Curt was killed off. It sounds like Tom didn't understand why they brought his character back either. It just didn't make sense to anybody except the writers who brought him back. It's too bad you couldn't talk to the writers for that episode and see why they decided to bring Curt back. I suppose it would make sense if they said he was brought back because that may have been the way some of the soldiers were at that time. When something happened to them they were afraid to go back to their family and not be the person that they were when they left. Thank you again for bringing Tom on as a guest appearance, it was great seeing him again. Please tell him thank you for sharing his insight on his character.
Judy you need him on again. I really want to know about Will Gear. He's got insight on who Will was as a person and only briefly talked about that. Can you get him back for more details? Also he talked about Richard Thomas and so many others. Thanks!
I just watched Day of Infamy. This was an excellent episode that captured the loss, shock, insecurity and fear of that time. I has an uncle who was killed at pearl harbor and my mother told us of these experiences. It was well acted by all in the cast.
It was great to see Tom. I looked him up and found that he is 21 years older than you. The level of professionalism you have is tremendous! Great chemistry!
Over the past few months, the Inspiration Network in S. California has been televising the Mary Ellen/Curt episodes. Thank you Judy for Tom's interview.
Judy, thanks so much for having Tom Bower as your guest! I love Curt's character and felt Tom did a great job of portraying him. I've never had the chance to see him in an interview situation, so this was a real treat! Love your channel!
What an absolute thrill to hear from Tom! "I asked for a small raise and they sent me to Pearl Harbor". Great line! LOL Definitely their loss because it ruined the continuity of the program. Things got a bit confusing from there.
Totally agree! He should’ve gotten the raise! He deserved it. I found it interesting that they had great chemistry despite the real life age difference.
