My favorite love story on this show is the realistic relationship between grandma and grampa Walton, especially when he'd try to get frisky and she'd tell tell him "Stop it, you old fool".💖
My favorite relationship wasn’t a real romance but it sure was moving in “The Journey” with John Boy taking Miss Maggie (Linda Watkins) to the ocean and her reminiscing.
Bringing Curt, back, after, he was, supposedly, killed at Pearl Harbor, was, painful too watch. And to make matters worse, they brought, him back as, another actor, who, no longer, wanted to have anything to do with, with Mary Ellen or John Curtis, just Ridiculous. The new curt and Mary Ellen, were mismatched in every way.
I loved all the John Boy romances. The girl he finally married was my least favorite, she just seemed so opposite of him. I agree with you about Daisy!
Dear Judy; Thank you so much for taking the time to share your commentary on my favorite television series of all time. I watched "The Waltons" each week when I was a child in the 70's. Now, I'm watching them all again on blu-ray disc as a 60 year old. Such a classy series, full of beauty, pathos, romance, humor, and mystery. Your performance as Mary Ellen is never to be forgotten. Please accept my thanks once again . . .
For me, the most moving of the romances leading to marriage was between Paul (Morgan Stevens, the late) and Erin. Erin was radiant wearing her mother's beautifully-laced wedding dress ( her actual mother's), and her tears when given away by John. Well, that was a special moment in the whole series.
@@Nonmuss "A Wedding on Walton's Mountain". I believe Mary McDonough's own father had died (a few years before?), so her being given away by John, whom she admired, was keenly felt and translated emotionally in this episode.
Thank you again for another look at the Walton romances. The story of GW always makes me cry, and I still think it was ridiculous that they brought Curt back. This was fun!!
Yes for some reason the death of GW felt so devastating. For me, it was also because he lived on this beautiful farmland - with his parents who were just overjoyed when he returned home from the War. But his brief return was followed by such devastation for Erin and GW's parents. A poignant and sad love story on so many fronts.
GW and Erin was such a sad ending. Loved all the romances and or near romances and the ones that never quite turned out. Such great writing on the show. It still is such a truly wonderful show. Thanks Judy💕
Hi Judy, the romance between John Boy and Jenny was very moving as it was very believable. This was one of many romances on the show that depicted how broken-hearted young romances can feel. Richard Thomas/John Boy's distraught Jenny had to leave him to heal herself after the death of her beloved Father. I remember feeling such sadness when she gave John Boy a gift - a musical instrument - a flute? the day she left abruptly. You covered so many interesting relationships that each character experienced, and the one that stood out for me about your romances was the one with Jonesy, especially how both of you had to cope with the news that Mary Ellen could not have any more children in the future. There was incredible chemistry between the two of you- which made the romantic story that much more believable. Superb acting. :D
@@judynorton2598 one of my favorite episodes was Grandpa and Grandma Walton’s the statue Annabelle and Grandma said she’s a statue Zeb so grandpa takes Annabelle and lays her to rest in Drucillllas pond
Thank you for stepping back in time with your wonderful reminiscing of your time on the show. Ashley Longworth! How that name has resounded in the romantic 🥰 memories of the windmill of love. I am a woman Vietnam Era Navy WAVE Veteran. In 1975 I married a United States Naval Academy grad. We walked under crossed swords on marble floors at the Naval Academy Cathedral. I am 71 years young I still feel the young romantic woman in me recalling the memories of Ashley Longworth and being married at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
you are definitely not in the minority, Before Corabeth arrived, Mr Godsey seemed content and busy with his grocery store.I think the general store was in almost every episode Judy? When Corabeth fell in love with humble Mr Godsey, the show was more eclectic and exciting. She was a spitfire with her eccentricities and that glamorous language she had :D I liked Corabeth alot - She was a good version of Mrs Oleson on Little House. LOL. And She was also very beautiful and elegant. You would think that the two of them were a real couple outside of the Waltons. Again excellent portrayals.
I had a crush on Jim Bob when I was young. I was disappointed he never ended up with someone. I loved Mary Ellen with Jonesy! The fun they had as a couple was so sweet. I wish dating was the same as it was back then! Thank you for the fond memories!
I think my favorite romance that wasn't a regular cast member was Olivia's Uncle Cody and Cordellia Honeycutt ... I enjoyed the ending where they tell us they stayed married for 20 years and died 6 months apart. Great episode! Cheers.
Judy Norton did a marvelous job going through all the romances on the Walton’s .. I loved watching that going down memory lane show .. Again “great job Judy “ .
Mine is Mary-Ellen & Jonesy. He had such a fantastic smile. Richard and yourself had amazing chemistry, and I could watch Mother's Day on Waltons Mountain over and The Whirlwinf over and over again. You were a lucky woman to work both him and Tom Bower ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I didn’t realize how many love stories were intertwined in the show. Lots of broken hearts within the multiple plots in ever story. Thanks for the memories you bring back with these vids.
Hello Judy 😊 Im saying snap also as i liked Mary Ellen and David together and John Boy and Daisy. When John Boy and Daisy got engaged and came home to get married it was so sad and tears me up every time i watch when the little girl comes down the stairs to say hello to Daisy. Tears flood from me 🥲🥲
I loved how Grandpa was quite the charmer with all the ladies. Johnboy and Jenny was one of my favorite Walton romances. Mary Ellen and Jonsie was also a favorite.
Thank you for doing this. My husband and I have rediscovered our love for all of you. In these times, it takes us back to a simpler time not only in the setting of The Waltons, but during the times of the actual show and during our childhoods. Really enjoying your posts that make us love it and y’all even more. Thanks for taking the time to share.
I liked the episode where Elizabeth was writing to that older soldier. I had a similar situation when I was 20 and a 12-year-old girl was showing affection toward me. It was an uncomfortable situation to say the least!!!
There was also the short lived Erin and Hank Buchanan! They had a date or two. They seemed to have some chemistry and flirted. In the celebration, she also told Mary Ellen that she was going to marry him.
That was fun. Thanks. The First Casualty story always breaks my heart. My guess is JimBob and Elizabeth would have had had more romances had the series gone on.
I think we all enjoy these reviews which yield behind the scenes information, while celebrating and summarizing the best of family dramas, The Waltons!
I didn’t realize how many romances John boy & Mary Ellen had over the Walton times LOL I think he beat you by a little. I wonder if earl had that many girl friends?
LOL - I hadn’t realized Mary Ellen had as many little romances as she did until I was researching for this segment. John Boy still had me beat easily :)
All the love stories were wonderful. My favorite love story was MaryEllen with Jonesy. I was sad when GW died and Erin was so heartbroken. Thank you for reminding us about all the romances.
These last 2 videos have been refreshing to see and we will probably start watching all the videos again...its so much better than what is on TV today. Thanks Judy!
Loved John Boy and Jenny and John Boy and Daisy❤️❤️ I really loved Daisy, she had such a great smile and cheerful, enthusiastic personality!!😀 I thought she was adorable, and wished they had gotten married. Too bad she didn’t tell him about her baby sooner, John Boy loved her and he would have understood and accepted her child ❤️
The Walton romances! What a great review. Thank you for bringing this all together. My heart still smiles thinking of Jenny & John-Boy's romance. Also hoped she'd be back in the picture when they got older. Daisy is a very close 2nd. You & Jonesy! Oh yes! 💕💕💕
Thanks for this, Ms. Norton. Appreciate the hard work and effort you put into this video. Any chance of you speaking with David Doremus, who played "GW" on your show? I really liked him when he was on "Nanny and the Professor" before "The Waltons" and would love to hear his POV on the business like others you've spoken to like Willie Aames.
@@judynorton2598 -- Thanks for the follow-up. I figured you had him on your radar with his extensive history as a recurring character on your show and the complicated interplay between Mary Ellen and Erin.
Judy I’m so excited, I found Walton’s today. It’s so amazing watching after all theses years. Seeing you then seeing you know. I’m watching the one where you brought a baseball glove and JT is interested in the rich girl. I love ❤️ it.
❤️ Great idea for a video just after Valentines Day Judy!! I still say Mary Ellen should have stuck with David the doctor but I guess he had to move on to One Life to Live!! 😉 Two other guest stars that were so cute were Jonathan Frakes & David Selby 🥰❤️
Another great segment on your podcast Judy,again..brings back great memories. I continue to watch The Walton's everyday on METV.. coincidentally on today's episode it was the one with Jared Martin, who was obsessed with Erin, who he thought was Gabriella.
That was wonderful Judy and refreshed all the relationships in my mind. My favourite is still John and Olivia but the show really did excel in showing the many faces of love through the seasons. Thank you for this segment, it's got me in the mood to watch season 1 again. Best wishes to you from your waltonian superfan in a milder England😉
For a small mountain village, there sure were many opportunities for romance. I wouldn't be surprised if , under a nom de plume Mr Hamner wrote romance novels too! (I mean that as a compliment!) This video made me smile, Judy! All the stories were fun. I didn't care too much for the storyline when John, Sr. was tempted by others. The saving grace was the choice for fidelity: a real old-fashioned value! I think GW and Erin's story was the most heartbreaking. I think Ben and Cindy were the most joyful! The Wedding is one of my top 5 favorites. Thanks for reviewing the romance of The Walton's. May everyone find such true love! ✨
PS ~ If the writers for whatever reason had to write Jenny Pendleton out of the show, then Daisy was my second choice for JB! She was a darling character! I liked when she and JB met in NY and she got a speaking part in a Broadway Show ~ "Shall we walk or take a cab?" Cute! And, Sarah Jane ~ boy, that Sissy Spacek was/is just a terrific actress, as are you all. What a true-to-life storyline Sarah Jane's was.
Hi Judy! Omg I love this video you put together ❤ it’s so cool seeing all the romances through out The Waltons! And yesterday I got a Waltons poster that came and I love it so much. And I hope you have a wonderful day :) Love, Jamie ~ huge Waltons fan ✨
I really always wanted your character to try again with Dr. David Spencer after Curtis passed at Pearl Harbor. I felt you both had a palpable chemistry on the screen each and every time you had scenes together.
This was so fun to see and hear about all of the romances on the show! I always thought Jenny and John Boy were so cute together, and also Daisy seemed a good match too. I always liked David Spencer and Mary Ellen, I thought he was a hunk and there was nice chemistry for sure. As for Erin, I wished Ashley Longworth Jr had worked out because they seemed perfect together!! Ah well all of us have our favorites! 😍 great segment thanks Judy!
I loved Mary Ellen and Eddie, but always wondered about how they would do a "posthumous" medal of honor to someone without making sure he's really posthumous!
This was a fun segment with you reminiscing about all the romances with all the different characters on The Waltons. There were so many that I had forgotten about until you brought them up again, so thank you Judy for a fun segment.
Most fans seem to like Jenny but Daisy was my fav as she was quite down to earth. I loved Toni! David was a fav of mine but Kurt was outspoken just like Mary Ellen. Ben was best with Cindy. Erin and Ashley would never have worked out sadly. Just my thoughts. I did not like Cathy for Jim Bob! Elizabeth needed someone new I felt. Thanks Judy. I enjoyed this one 😊
I love all the romance's especially Grandma and Grandpa, Grandpa loved everyone and made people feel welcomed always and finally Elizabeth and Drew got engaged I was happy for them both and I really loved your's and Curtis he was the right one for you but I love jonesy he was a character. I love the one with your son seeing Grandpa 😢 he was watching over the family and love the Baldwin Sisters they were fabulous women and Olivia and John and love for one another and there children it was a close nit family I just love the whole family thank you Judy lot's of love and hugs ♥️♥️🙏🙏👏
Thanks for these story/show insights, Judy! My favorite Waltons 'romance', though, was the crush I had on Mary Ellen. (I'm sure I speak for millions) :-) Loved The Waltons!
With everything Mary Ellen’s and Erin’s husbands put them through, I always thought they would have been better off marrying David and Chad respectively. I thought those were fantastic relationships onscreen, and the chemistry between all of you actors was very palpable. But Jonesy turned out great for Mary Ellen, I’ll admit that. I was so drawn in by Erin and Chad. I don’t know exactly why they grabbed my attention so much, I just loved watching them! I would have loved to see them get married after Erin graduated high school.
Oh this was a fun one...so much love on the Mountain...thank you Judy...ya look so pretty in red...I had such a crush on John Boy...🤩...boy he had alot of loves...haha...
Wonderfully done, Judy!! Inasmuch as I liked the Curt character, I didn't like that they "brought him back from the dead." Bad idea. Jonesy and the Bob Woods character were great, though. Erin also dated the new preacher but just stayed friends. He was the best one, yet I feel killing off GW was a big mistake. Funny that Mary says all that Erin did was kiss and cry! (and a tattletale as a child!) Poor Erin. Thanks for this Valentine edition, Judy.
Thank you for bringing these stories to light. I know that the entire series was looseley based on the Earl Hamner book but I do love any period fiction. I was in Jr./Sr. High school when the Waltons was on tv and I am about the same age as the Walton children, especially you. I have started to watch the series again on Hallmark and I do love the contest you bring to the story,
I wanted so badly to be a Walton growing up! A large loving family, a farm,a community that supported them all and most of all parents together and no fighting or bad things!
Hello dear Judy. Thank you for this Romances on Waltons mountain video. I enjoyed a lot of the love stories that you all experienced. My most favorite love stories were from John Boy & Jim Bob. Jenny and John Boy had me wrapped in their love story so much that when Jenny left John Boy brokenhearted near the broken fireplace at the ruins of what once a home to the Waltons ancestors, I wept. I cried for him and her because I wanted them to be together and form a family. I also fondly remember the love triangle between Jim Bob, the beautiful Skywalker girl and John Boy. At the end the our brothers stood stronger together and life in Waltons' mountain went on as usual. There's so many beautiful love stories to talk about that I will be writing all day. 😊 Now I must continue my day. Thank you dear sis, and continue to bring us good nostalgic moments and anecdotes from The Waltons' vault. Take care! ❤
I really enjoy these Judy. I miss watching the show. We have Dish and they have cancelled every station that ran the show. There’s a money dispute apparently. 😢
I don’t know how choices are made about where the show airs. I do know you can consider buying the entire box set of The Waltons and reunion movies as an option.
A tour de force, Judy! The other long-term relationship on the show that probably deserves a mention is Ike & Corabeth--quite a departure from the other marriages! Now if we were to put all of this terrific info into a spreadsheet and laid it out season by season, we'd *really* have something! And if we looked at John Boy's activities in that way, it probably reveals the real reason why Richard had to leave after Season Five--he was just plain tuckered out! :-)
Hi Judy. I must admit, I favored Jenny not only for John boy, but for the Walton family. There was also Sis Bradford in the episode the Beguiled. I really liked G.W for Mary Ellen and surprisingly Beth Morgan for Jason. Thanks again Judy. 🙂
Good to know :). I didn’t include Sis as I never thought John Boy was interested in her, she seemed to be pursuing him and he didn’t seem to be reciprocating.
@@judynorton2598 Thanks Judy. I just remembered how he kissed her in front of the entire family and told his parents how much he liked her. His attempts to convince Olivia that she was just her own person. Jim Bob basically telling him that he wasn't the best at choosing girls. Thanks for reading and responding to my comment Judy. I really appreciate it. It's the joy of being the audience and expression of experience. 🙂
@@judynorton2598 ok so that’s not a reproduction of the cart but the on used in the show that is great so many things from tv and movies are lost im glad it was saved
I'm watching the Walton's and they are showing the shivaree and I think that guy Bob deserves to get a shivaree for the way he treats the family and his bride.
I understand - but I also see how incredibly uncomfortable he felt in these completely unfamiliar surroundings and feeling so foreign. Doesn’t make it right, just understandable to me.
