I believe it was Michael Learned who said that she had photos of her Walton family on one side of her refrigerator at home and photos of her own family on the other side, indicating her attachment to both families in a natural progression over the years.
My favorite part of the Homecoming is when Elizabeth tells everyone she wasn't having babies, instead she planned to have puppies, and then when Jim Bob explains it too her in the loft. So cute.
@@judynorton2598 What I got do be a walton u guys I look up to and look to u guys as friends david best known as Jim bob is cute 😊 if u don't mind tell him. Please I watch the show all day long maybe we will have a street name after the waltons walton st ..can u reply to this Bessie.
Thank you, Kami and Judy...so wonderful, special memories of this season of the show...Larry Dobkin, Rod and Claire, and of course our beloved Earl. I might have already shared this, but we actually tossed a hand-held camera down the stairs for Kami's POV of her fall...Kami was such a pro... all that work without complaint. And yes, for me, dealing with the sudden loss of Ellen, re-writes on the fly, production report changes, scene-shuffling, etc. are all still fresh in my mind...lucky to have those memories to brighten my life to this day.
Thanks also to you, Mr. Dayton, for your wonderful contributions - then and now!! (I get a kick out of spotting YOU , from time to time, when watching The Waltons! The other day I was watching the episode "The Furlough ", which I've seen countless times, before Judy created her RU-vid channel. I was delighted to see that it was YOU who played the officer who went and retrieved the scantily-clad Ike Godsey from the throes of his Army-intake physical! 😂) All the best to you and yours! ♥️

Wonderful to see you commenting! I love when you've been on to chat as well. I'm sure I'm not the only one that hopes you'll reminisce with Judy some more.
@@kareendelconte What you didn't see was Joe and I standing behind the wall for our entrance - Joe was freezing, shivering - we missed our cue several times as we couldn't hear what was going on due to the walls of the set and the door - I finally yelled out to our director Harry (Harris) - "We can't hear a thing back here!" Harry had electrical install a cue light (a light backstage which the director activates giving us our cue to enter - If you see Joe shivering that was real!
Mrs. Putnam here, yes l agree with Kami, you all WERE ALL SO ADORABLE when you were young. My favorite line of Elizabeth was in the Home coming, where she says I DON’T FEEL LIKE A PISS ANT! It still tickles me pink!!! ♥️🙏♥️. I hate heights and freak even on little Farris wheel rides. LOL.
So nice to see “Elizabeth” again. We watched her grow up in the Waltons and wondered how that was for her. Glad she went into teaching after the Waltons, we certainly need more teachers in the system.
What was the Cast's thoughts on the Carol Burnett skit, "The Walnuts"? When Joan Rivers as Momma says, "Oh hush." and Vincent Price as Daddy Man replies "See? I've never seen your Mother so upset." always cracked me up.
Thanks Judy for having Kami Cotler on your show today. Great seeing her and hearing her experiences. She did some wonderful stunts for a kid.... Thanks so much for sharing .
Kami seems like a down to earth great, great person. This interview could've lasted an hour longer and still not been enough. I'm so glad to see her and hear what she has to say.
Wow, I see Kami here and see her as an adult, but also the young kid she was on the show. Its like my brain is split in two. It was really great to see her.
I enjoyed you and Kami going down memory lane. Please have David Harper on an episode. Although Mary Ellen was my favorite I could relate to Jim Bob because we were the same age.
Seems Kami always has an interesting perspective. My guess is not all the former actors/actresses are interested in doing this. I liked most episodes featuring Jim Bob. He did a great one with Patsy Rahn later in the series that reminded me of The movie ‘Summer of 42’ so much.
Jim Bob was my favorite character, I think because I could relate to him. Jim Bob had his "head in the clouds". His perspective was not always the same as the rest of the family. He was himself even if he had to explore and dream a little bit to know who he was. He had a dream and he followed it even though that dream would be sidelined. But he pushed through and pursued his love for cars.
I love listening to you reminesc with your former costar Kami Kotler about your time on one of my favorite TV shows behind the scenes. I would love to see a 3 way interview with Kami and Mary McDonough, because I'd like to hear "Erin's" perspective of the show. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, and I hope you do more of these.
My favorite line in the "Burn-out" was when you were all stuck in the tent, and it started to rain, and you popped an umbrella open, and you said something about being "prepared"! Way too hilarious! Totally a Mary Ellen thing to do!
@@judynorton2598 still brings a smile to my face. I loved your "Mary Ellen-ness", A lot of your "looks" were priceless! Standing on your head with your arm kinda folded over asking "Mama" if you were pretty(like the "Homecoming")and you wanted to use Erin's beads or something like that! Your "bargaining skills" w/Vern. The looks between you and john-boy at the dinner table not to tease him, about being in love or graduation day....perfect casting...chemistry off the charts, no wonder you are still "family" today, to each other, and your "Walton" fan-base!
I would have been 10 when the Ferris wheel episode aired. My bedtime was 8:30 and I recall negotiating an extra few minutes but was not allowed to watch the whole episode. I remember having bad dreams and worrying about Elizabeth for a long time. About 10 years ago I discovered the Waltons were on tv every day and couldn't wait to finally watch that entire episode. I have watched every episode at least 5 times now and have the complete dvd collection! I am a big fan!
I particularly love Kami's scenes with Ralph Waite. Especially when she's small and fully in the role of "daddy's little girl". I lost my own Dad when I was around Elizabeth's age, and seeing his tenderness with her often makes me tear up and regret those few years I had with him. My memories are few, but they're solid. I remember Dad holding me in his arms at the lake and "dunking" me in the water to overcome my fear. The game of "shovel" we used to play when he walked in the door from work and I'd run to him and he'd scoop me up in his arms and we'd both yell "Shovel!" Just warms my heart. Thanks again Kami and Judy. I can't tell you what the Waltons means to me and how thankful I am for your continued commentary and analysis of this wonderful series.
Still remember the little and the most adorable Elizabeth from the very first show - The Homecoming, and always love to hear her ask all kind of silly questions and then say goodnight to everybody . Thank you so much, Judy and Kami, for sharing the memories. Judy, I look forward to seeing some more of your interviews with your other siblings from The Waltons family if this can be arranged :)
It’s also so nice to hear from actors who had a positive, sweet, fun, safe experience (which, I believe, was more the norm) rather than just the bad, tragic stories and outcomes of child actors.
This was such a fun interview! I love when you are talking shop with actors and crew..so very interesting. If I had known back in the 70's, that I would have the opportunity to learn about the behind the scenes of The Walton's so many years later, I would have flipped:) Thank you so much for sharing this with us Judy!
I will always love the intro music. Idk why. Maybe because I was only 5 or 6 when I first heard the tune before actually watching it. 46 years old now, 2022, I still can't get enough of it. Always takes me back to them days. Even if it's only for a few minutes. I'll always remember the intro. Beautiful.
Judy, I truely love the interviews with your cast mates. Would love to see more with some of the others. I think you've talked with John Wamsley before. Would love to hear from some of the others you haven't interviewed yet. Great insite. Keep up the great work.
Blown away to find out that Ms. Cotler is the same age as I am. For some reason I thought she was a couple years younger! To think that I grew up learning my critical life lessons from actors the same age as I was! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Ms. Norton. You remain the beautiful, steady, and articulate presence that you oh so honestly portrayed. I am so grateful that you all entered my home weekly. These lessons helped guide me to some critical life decisions over the many years since "The Waltons" but those lessons never left. They helped guide me to care for my elderly as their need for help, love, and care came in the fullness of time, and to become a living kidney donor a few years back. You all may not be aware of how deeply you and your fellow actors impacted other children (at the time), but (perhaps) indirectly you helped save my life and show me the beauty in the simple things. May you be blessed in all you do. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Great seeing Kami with you again. I tend to agree my favorite episodes were the earlier ones when you kids were younger and before you ran off and got married etc. Just a more magical feeling to me. Just one man's opinion that's all. Even though you all wouldn’t know me from "Adam's housecat" I like to see you're doing well and staying in touch.
As a former educator and writer, and being from small-town Missouri, I find comfort watching The Walton’s, the writing, both of you and your characters, …all of it! It takes me to a time that I long for in my heart~Loving mountains, the writing, scenery, how the family always came together, even though each were encouraged to follow his/her path,…I grew up a tomboy like Mary Ellen! I love the episodes Kami shared. And Judy, how wonderful you got to enjoy horses and the “role” fit what you loved! You are both so authentic and fun! Down-to-Earth and relatable ~just as I assumed you all were! Thank you so much! ❤️
This may be your best video and that is high praise because all of them are so enjoyable! Your guest spots are so appreciated because reunions often times feel staged and scripted But yours are so genuine. Open interaction with honest thoughts that don't necessarily align with other cast members. I hope you are able to have similar one on one exchanges with all of the other cast members.
This was just and charming little behind the scenes click, giving a wonderful perspective of Kami all grown up. Her memories were just delightful to listen to.
Kami cotler was great as Elizabeth played the part great I agree with Kami the waltons homecoming is great watched it every year around Christmastime or in general kami was adorable when she was little and judy you were a cute girl when little as well both turned out to be beautiful women im sure you all had great times during filming the waltons and had fun love watching these interviews and hearing the good times you all had and memories and the episodes you all filmed and sharing them love it thanks for sharing these enjoy them thanks Judy and kami👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Girls, Can you “get into” the stories now, as viewers, seeing them as completed? I hope so! We love you all! x I hope you and Kami can talk again like this! I could watch for hours! ♥️
Judy, It was nice to listen to you both talk about your memories from being on The Walton's. On The Homecoming, you had so much spunk, personality, and was never afraid to say what was on your mind as 12 year old often does. Im just curious as to if you had to act Maryellen as the teenager she was, or did it just come natural? I can still hear Kami saying, "Im gonna have puppy's!" Thank you!
It was fun to play Mary Ellen. In real life, I was a tomboy, so loved the physical scenes, playing ball, horse race etc. I was opinionated, independent and strong - so those traits came easily.
That interview was really fun to watch. I grew up watching The Waltons and I remember it being such a quality show in many ways. Today, I have been going through the series again and I seem to find myself crying after each show. I was also in love with Mary Beth :-) Ms. Norton, thanks for being a part of this show and bringing the bratty teen character to life.
Such a treat to listen to you both! "I won the Mom lottery," said Kami! How terrific! Now what about those conversations, Judy, you didn't think age appropriate for Kami? Hmm! Sounds intriguing! You certainly have a lot of company watching The Homecoming every Christmas!!! Kami, what about Miss Margaret? 😊 I love how sometimes John Boy addressed Miss Margaret including your doll as an important part of the family and your life. Little things like that show great insight into human life and love! Adorable is the word for all you especially in the earliest episodes! I was frankly mesmerized by the children, the mountain location, and the time period. You Walton's have given great solace during the pandemic and now this despicable war on innocent civilians. It is a welcome respite to reminisce and learn more about our favorite people. You're so beautiful each and all! Kind regards from Pennsylvania where we just might be seeing the end of winter, I hope! 🌷🧡🙏☮️🧡
WOW! That was so cool! Back in the '90s I was in a band that played at a place in Nelson County called Bistro 151. Kami was a regular there and one night she had just left before we came in to set up. The staff always had nice things to say about her.
I agree with both of you about "The Homecoming" being one of the favorites from "The Waltons." I bet I watch that movie 10 times each Christmas. It's one of my favorite Christmas shows of all time. It was interesting hearing Kami talk about the episode of the Ferris wheel. I would have been terrified to film that show due to my fear of heights. Other than "The Homecoming" movie, it would be very hard for me to pick a favorite episode from the actual show because I loved them all. It was so much fun watching you and Kami in this video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you so much to you both for sharing this video.
@@judynorton2598 So glad to see you and Kami swapping stories. I hope you might some day tell us what you remember about the episode called "The Festival" The little boy in it was amazing. 1 So glad to see you and Kami swapping stories. I associate the Waltons with chicken fried rice chinese takeaways! It was on at 8 pm in the UK, and my mother and I would go to the nearby newly opened first chinese in our area of Wales and, knowing nothing about the cuisine, buy chicken fried rice every single week! We'd then congregate to enjoy the meal and the show with my aunt, my grandmother and my cousin without ever missing it in those long ago early 70s days when I became a teenager. All those people have passed on now , but the memories of our lovely Monday nights together with the Waltons are strong and warm, especially as I write this. Peace and love from South Wales to you Judy, and to Kami, and to all those close to you xx.
This was EXTRA SPECIAL, Judy! I could have listened to you two for another hour- easily!😊 So interesting to hear both of your perspectives and to be reminded, yet AGAIN, of how special the ENTIRE cast and crew of The Waltons was/is! ANY CHANCE MARY MIGHT BE AVAILABLE FOR A MORE IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW LIKE THIS?🤞🙏 ALSO: I'D STILL BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT THE REED BROS ARE UP TO THESE DAYS AND IF THEY HAVE ANY RECOLLECTION- OR STORIES FROM THEIR GUARDIANS- RE: THEIR "JOHN-CURTIS WILLARD" YEARS. 👶👶😁 Thanks soooooo very much for continuing to do these segments, Judy. The world seems to be getting CRAZIER by the minute. 😰 Your channel - YOUR kindness and insights into this wonderful, timeless show - are like a breath of fresh air!! 😊♥️
Listening to you both reminiscing on your childhood Walton days is wonderful for me. I am from a family of 11 children....and it is the same for us when we talk about our childhoods. The oldest two was born in the late 40's and the next six in the 50's and the three youngest of us born in the mid the late 60's. So we have some connections with some and some we don't.
@@judynorton2598 Yes it does indeed. One of my sisters has us all writing stories on different topics having to do with our childhood...."Getting raised as John-boy would say" and we are making it into a book to share with the younger generations.
Hi Judy. This was such an amazing interview. Kami and you have really had a lifetime of memories together and it came across so warmly and so wonderfully. Thank you Judy and I hope to see more of your co-stars interviewed on the channel - and I hope all your projects get green lit as well! (no question today!)
Another great interview with Kami! I love these interviews with fellow cast members. You both seem like such wonderful down-to-earth people who just had very interesting jobs. Love to both of you!
Kami and I are almost the same age, just a few days apart. Whenever I see her in The Waltons, I always think about being that same age as her at that time.
I just love kami she is so great enjoyed hearing ur memories I wish they had more shows like the Walton's the family dynamics and values love seeing u and kami together thanxs judy
Ohhhh thank you Judy for this segment of ask Judy, an absolute treat to be witness to you and Kami conversing. It was so interesting to see things from your side and Kami's side of things which were different in some cases. Thorough professionals both of you and totally agree with watching the Homecoming every Christmas although I also watch the best Christmas episode as well. You totally nailed it yet again, thank you and best wishes to you from your superfan in cool England😉
@@judynorton2598 Hi Judy I wanted to share with you by corresponding with you and Kami I had Motivated myself to get involved in arts and drama at a Baptist church in Parma Hts.I wanted to share with you I was a 4th town person in a psalm Sunday play today in scene 1 where Jesus was performing miricles.Healing a blind man and a paralyzed man.
I enjoyed this conversation very much. It would be great if all the kids could get together with Michael and have an informal roundtable discussion about the show and their lives on and off the show. Include Leslie Winston and Robert Wightman too. (It would be interesting to see the two John-Boys interact.)
Speaking of Robert Wightman, how is his relationship with the cast? Does he come to the reunions? Like most fans, I could not accept him as "John Boy." But of course, he had big shoes to fill and Wightman did the best he could. So, yes, it would be interesting to just hear his take on having to take over the role.
Thank you Judy for giving us a chance to get to know Kami. She is just as cute now as she was when she was six years old. You know what, I think I missed " The Ferris Wheel " episode. I will have to track it down.
Great video ladies! It’s always a pleasure when your memories of the Walton’s are shared with us fans. I hope you two realize how much this means to us. Hope more of these videos are included in the future. Thank you both! 👍🏻
Thank-you Judy & Kami I don't think any other Show or TV series comes close to the Waltons with 3 Brothers & 5 sisters we'd gathered around the TV to watch Love the Waltons ❤
I loved seeing you speaking with your onset little sister, it was interesting hearing how you all interacted, Kami gave a really interesting perspective.
Hello Judy, I love watching these behind the scenes you do. It brings back so many memories. My wife and I watch the waltons TV show every night. They definitely don't make wholesome family TV shows like this anymore.
I agree Judy, Your Mary Beth was spot on. I worked with teenagers as an educator and had two of my own. You were brilliant in bringing out her contradictions and her emotional swings as a teenager. You made Mary Beth so very real. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
I binge watch The Waltons either in the afternoon or late night/early morning since I'm retired and only check the clock for medicinal purposes. It is interesting to see nine years of shows in the course of nine months to see all of you children grow as if the show was done in stop-action photography , Like little buds opening to beautiful flowers. That's how I think of all of you girls on the show. All three of you grew up to be beautiful young women and I am privileged to be communicating with you.. Thank you Judy, Kami, and give my regards to Mary.
