"If Ukraine had just implemented the Minsk Accords" is a refrain a heard quite frequently Ukraine's detractors and people rushing to absolve Putin as much as possible. It shows a total inability to acknowledge Russia's involvement in 2014, the lack of sincerity of Russia and the so-called People's Republics, and what these agreements actually contained

Google this - "Do Svidaniya to Russo-centrism Western schools start decolonizing Eastern Europe studies". Mearsheimer is the tip of the iceberg and most well known in that respect that evolved from this insidious effect of Russo-centric narratives a long time ago. The most insidious and dangerous of these "Mearsheimer" types that is not well knwn is Samuel Charap, he is on the advisory team for NatSec Advisor Jake Sullivan and surely poisons his ear with the Russo-centric nonsense that Mearsheimer peddles.

This really is sad. Why is it that Mearsheimer is so widely accepted as an expert, when he literally predicted in 2015 that Putin would never attempt to conquer Ukraine? I actually don't question his IR expertise broadly, and I suspect his offensive realism model is a good tool (though amoral). But the guy has very little understanding of the region and its history, and he appears to have no insight at all into the Kremlin. And I mean... that's just not acceptable if you're gonna advertise him as an expert, and he is often advertised as such.

When Russia supposedly invaded Ukraine one of the first things I found was a lecture from 8 years earlier by John Mearsheimer predicting this exact event. That provoked me to start investigating and recalling American behaviors about wars going back to Vietnam. I am still confused about this, unwilling to defend Russia, but also unwill to buy into our American narrative either. The US seems to have interfered in Urkaine going back to Maidan and the revolution that kicked out of office a Ukrainian President who was trying to do right by his people. The US has removed a lot of leaders in other countries from power who were trying to help their people - there is a whole list of them, and many CIA and State department insiders who have spoken about it. I tend to see Russia-Ukraine as a disagreement about the split between Russia and Ukraine when the USSR dissolved. I think it is something the US should have stayed out of - except for one reason. That reason would be if couped Ukrainian President Yanukovych's plan to have Ukraine be neutral and an intermediary between Russia and the EU was predicted seriously to impact the US's influence and economic power in Europe. On the other side is the desire for the US to keep pushing Russia through NATO expansion and putting pressure on it, as we do to all our seld made enemies, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, China, Vietnam, etc. If you are not an American puppet regime you are a communist threat to the world and must be destroyed. That's the rules of the game. So, I don't think Putin is the devil incarnate, and I do think he is looking after the best interests of Russia, and ethnic Russians in Ukraine. But on the big battlefield of global big power politics, I support the US. I just think we should be more transparent about it, and not overindulge because we have made a wreck of our own country now. It will not be too long before Russians and Chinese have a better lifestyle that Americans if we keep this foolishness up - at least without American citizen buy-in - and compensation.

Oddly Russian had no idea that Trump was the first American President to ship arms to Ukraine, and Ukrainian troops were trained, and ready - in fact, one of the reasons Russia "invaded" was because the softening up artillery barrages in the Donbas were increasing every day and Ukrainian troops were massing on the border ready to invade after 8 years of fighting. Russia pre-empted this and made a shot for Kiev to break off some Ukrainian troops - but there were many more Ukrainian military than Russia understood.

What a lame argument. one country cannot dictate what another does. the people of ukraine want freedom and democracy and have been dying for it for decades now. If dictators decide a red line to be 'let me do whatever the hell I want to my smaller neighboors' than the west should be proud they crossed it. these people are dying daily for the rights we take for granted everyday. to help them is to be on the good side.

@danilabezmenov3489
@danilabezmenov3489 2 месяца назад
Azov indeed started as a right-leaning paramilitary group under Beletsky when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. It was later absorbed into official Ukraine military and was reformed with the far right ideology weeded out. Many people who were initially there stayed though as they felt their duty was to fight for Ukraine's independence. Many of them had rough youth, as was mentioned (soccer hooligans, mostly of the Metallist team), used to support right ideologies and definitely are still nationalists. Of course those people still have their tattoos from their previous periods including some runes or swastikas. Through the years I did not see any significant evidence of the battalion being involved in anything remotely inhumane or outrageous you would expect from real "nazis", unless you consider their participation in some nationalist marches or fighting russian military to be such. They indeed were used as a scarecrow by russian propaganda along with right sector, but that is pretty much it. Fun fact is that majority of their core was formed from Russian speaking Ukrainians from east-southern (more russian-leaning) part of the country. So, I wonder what sources of information did you use to form your opinion on them? Did those sources include any evidence that was clearly not a fabrication or exaggeration? No hostility here, just interested in how you perceive them?
@Daniel-ds4oq
@Daniel-ds4oq 2 месяца назад
@@danilabezmenov3489 I appreciate the information. Tbh I don't have much of an opinion of them. I have heard that they are a neo-nazi group from multiple outlets, but I don't trust any outlet fully. I just felt that it would have been useful for them to go into more specifics on the Azovs since it is a huge talking point for opposition to supporting Ukraine. I personally don't have much opinion on this conflict other than America should not be funding it, or any other foreign war. I really like the podcast and Sam Harris' interview guests. But his subscription model is outrageous. 15 bucks a MONTH, is he crazy? I'll NEVER pay that much just for a podcast. NEVER. Period. Per year would be my maximum pain threshold. Sam is just ONE of many podcasts that I listen to. What if every youtuber started using this kind of subscription model? Nobody wants to pay that unless money is no longer an issue for them. In addition, my government forces me to pay a painful amount of money for its own state propaganda. If Sam can change my government's mind, I would be happy to give him this money. If Sam Harris wants to get his ideas out to the people and fight against "bad ideas", he should think about his pricing model. Just my two cents.

As his guest said, there has probably not been a war since World War II with this much moral clarity. (Did you see Putin's interview with Tucker Carlson? There are some instances -- and this is definitely one of them -- where "defeating" what your eyes are telling you is self-defeating. When it comes to indicting Putin for what he has done in Ukraine, I can't even imagine what a "straw man" argument would look like because his actions have been 100 percent indefensible. There is no case to be made for Putin's behavior and the interview was therefore conducted completely appropriately. Shit, Israel is the only place in the region that a woman can go by herself, not changing anything about her behavior coming from western ideas or freedom, dress how she feels like it and compete with men in business. All other countries women still have to be put in "their place". They voted for Hamas. Is kind of smart having a culture that constantly chants "From the river to the sea" in perpetual vigilance. When I look at the meaning of the word “diaspora” it was first use to describe the Jewish reality. Of course more people are going to die due to the length of the conflict and more density of people in an area, that’s obvious. My point is that if the actions are really the meaning of the concept of “genocide” how it has been executed throughout all history(until woke people changed the definition) the Palestines would have been all wiped out off existence already. Don’t you know the technology Israel has in weaponry? The amount? They would have use the Palestinian, Arab chant “From the river to the see” to bulldoze them out.
