Main thing I learned from this video is that February 30th exists in LOTR.

Yep. Scarier than Mordor and Isengard combined.

3:01 "and the Moria orcs are just there to have a good time." Amazing line and totaly true. Orcs dwell in Misty Mountains are notorious party animals!

The Rohirrim should have built a castle on the isle in the Isen with the help of Gondor AGES ago! You don‘t defend your borders with riders camping in the field! If you‘re blessed with such a chokepoint, you simply have to fortify it even when your fighting force is cavalry

Im not that much into the lore of LOTR but wasn’t that the function of isengard in earlyer ages?
@michelmorio8026
@michelmorio8026 3 года назад
@@rnanni1048 No, Isengard (or rather Orthanc) belonged to Gondor! When Gondor was still populated enough that their own men & women dwelt there (the land of Rohan was called Calenardhon back then, which at this point is 1500 years in the past) it was manned for a time, but then closed and the Steward got the keys of Orthanc! 500 years previous to the war of the Ring, the Rohirrim under Eorl the young were granted those unpopulated lands for their help against the Orcs & Easterlings (called Balchoth) and established their own kingdom of Rohan there! But they never possessed Isengard and 250 years prior to the war of the ring, the Steward’s gave they keys to Saruman or the Istari in general (in the person of him of course, cause he was their highest ranking member) So you see, the Rohirrim never used it in their history... but the Rohirrim as a semi-nomadic people also never really fortified any borders, might have a reason in their culture of being a mainly cavalry using nation! Never mind, a simple wooden motte & Bailey or a wooden fort with some towers on an isle in a river is already enough to control the area, defend it while some messengers get word to the Hornburg, Edoras and Aldburg to bring the Eoreds to the Westfold or at least force the enemy to attack on just the Eastern Bank while the western is relatively easy kept in check

Gamling the Old. Gamling literally meaning something like "old one" in several Scandinavian languages. Old One the Old. I guess maybe he's old?

Sometimes I like to imagine that the he nordic viking influence extends beyond Rohan: picture the Fjords of Isen. Viking Rohirrim on boats fighting....wait for it....Orcas. Saruman's fighting killer whales. A sight to behold indeed. On the first light of the 3rd day, look to the sea.

Rohan is rather influenced by Anglo-Saxons then Vikings, given Tolkien’s interests and the presented culture...
@hazzmati

Take the old anglo saxons and combine them with the horse culture of the scythians and you get the rohorrim
@michelmorio8026
@michelmorio8026 3 года назад
@@hazzmati That’s why I said „influenced“... that doesn‘t mean identical! ...or else you would also have to mention that they aren’t praying to a Christian god like the Anglo-Saxons, don‘t have thralls and are actually semi-nomadic because of their horse flocks in the large plains 😉
