The "senior elder" was totally on our side. Given that the others started preparing for their invasion pretty much as soon as the martian public executed him, he was probably the only thing stopping them from invading Earth.
It's superb. It shows that the Martians are actually peaceful having not had wars themselves for millenia, but are forced to invade Earth out of sheer desperate necessity. It's also very often used in the War of the Worlds Musical Live show.
"The age of disillusionment and decay is over." (the first line in the game) "...and early in the twentieth century came the great disillusionment." (from the novel's first chapter)
I just noticed that during the POV shot from inside the fighting machine, now that the lines were removed, you can see some sort of liquid dripping down the side of the martian. A disgustingly cool detail, too bad the lines obscured most of it.
The source describes them as glistening, although this is an illusion. Most likely the pilot is "sweating" (I don't think Martians have glands like earthly animals, but still some form of excretion) from a combination of, as you mentioned, the earthly climate - the source took place during a sweltering summer - and the fact that they haven't had to use these machines for extended periods in over 5,000 years. Short jaunts across the Martian surface is one thing - staying in the cramped fighting compartment of a weaponized/modded glorified taxi for days is another.
5:28 Martian: "This is unacceptable" Me: "Unacceptable? You've launched an invasion on a foreign planet and you're surprised that the aforementioned foreign planet's residents are fighting back?"
It was used during the initial Arena UK Tour Run back in 2006, the Martian’s appearances were heavily modified to make them look more convincing and indeed more terrifying.
This takes me back. Many hours spent playing this game, got so close to conquering London and then... life happened never got to finish the game 😢 To life immortal, comrades.
i still have this game but as each of my pcs went kaput due to power cuts outage newer pc set up could not play it but recently i bought a second hand sony viao with floppy drive dvd drive and older windows pre loaded so looking forward to playing it again
The beginning where the tripod is walking across the Martian desert together with that version of that music in the background made me think of a Spaghetti Western… I’m still expecting Clint Eastwood’s voice to suddenly say: “I don’t think it’s nice you laughin” :D
It was actually a variation of Holst’s ‘The Planets - Mars’ mixed with leitmotifs of both ‘The Red Weed Part 1 and Part 2’ from the original 1978 album.
It's still grainy and blocky. I don't think any amount of AI upscaling will improve the cutscenes as the source from the game was to bad to begin with. The original, uncompressed source from Rage Software would be better to work from, but getting a hold of that is probably impossible at present as the developer is now defunct. Still, this looks far better than the games cutscenes.
Then came the night the first missile approached earth, Hundreds saw it but they thought it was a ordinary falling star. Some say that it traveled with a hissing sound Others say that it landed with a green flash However next day there was a huge crater in the middle of horsel common and ogilvy came to examine what lay there A cylinder 30 yards across glowing hot and with faint sounds of movement coming from within suddenly the top began moving rotating unscrewing and ogilvy feared that a man inside trying to escape he rushed to the missile but the intense heat managed to stop him before he burn himself on the metal
@@pxtshxp they look too small to be flying machines, and also too small to be martians. also, can you guys like not attack people just for being furries
-These scenes are actually from a game that never made it to market. That is a pity as I would have loved to play it. Cough new world? Learn our history and you can see how the story came about.
