How do you love rap when rap doesn’t love you back? From Rico Nasty’s harassment from toxic Carti fans, to Saucy Santana's unapologetically femme aesthetics in a queerphobic industry, to the assault case that put Megan Thee Stallion’s entire image on trial, each episode of Louder Than A Riot - the second season of our investigative hip-hop podcast - unpacks the unspoken rules of rap that hold the entire culture back. Tap in to our first episode at n.pr/louder-season-2.
As I’m becoming a guitar guy, it’s odd watching Adam play Strats instead of his mandatory Jazzmaster. Those humbuckers definitely put out a heavier and an identifiable sound. He’s an amazing axe man.
No need to bring Jesus in to it bro, just love the track ,because Jesus loves us all ,I know this to be true, because I moved on as the song describes, great lyrics, cool tune. 😎
@@UncleRicoOSU I made the comment because Pablo used the lords name as a cuss word, which is not a good idea 🤔. But yes Jesus is Good, excellent in fact 👏
Their songs could make me walk all night long through the streets of a city with no name aimlessly. Pure magic, pure feelings. One of the best bands of our time
I discovered TWOD during a taxi ride in the middle of a crazy work day, being late for a meeting, stuck in traffic, cars, horns, jams.. The driver was an older guy, about 70, casually tapping his finger on the wheel in the rythm of "An ocean in between the waves". I didn't even notice but I got kinda lulled into it, the noise and the stress of it all just fell back and I caught myself trying to figure out what I was listening to, so I asked him. The best discovery of a band ever. They made my day then and every time I've listened to them since.
@@BarronVonSchnoot Or alternatively, it's called never giving up on music in a 30-40 year career. Continually and progressively pushing your sound and purchasing whatever you think might accompany that. All of the men in TWOD are incredibly versatile and talented musicians and the success this band is now receiving has eluded them for quite some time as individual artists.
I agree, everytime I introduce someone to this band I use this video and I gotta mention that it is live cause it sounds mindblowingly crisp. God bless the engineer haha
i walked into our local vinyl shop a few years ago. On display was a record by the War On Drugs. I am hiphiop head and a music fan, picked that album up simply based on the owners advice; "You love music, you'll love this" . Took it home and dropped the needle and the first song was Under The Pressure. Havent looked back since.
@@Pushpin06 An Awesome Wave...oh myyy lord! Im 38, heard all the greatest albums in this past/pre genre...but that album alone, transports me to another world. I like a lot of their new stuff, but AAW is just perfect! Edited to say I miss Gwil, and JOE, get on a diet dude!
I am truly happy for all the people who haven't heard of this band yet and today is their first time. Their live stuff is always so flawless and clean. Enjoy!
These guys are a miracle… all these old retro tones yet they’ve actually managed to make something original and new. Great songwriting and performances too.
Adam looks like that one music teacher all other teachers and faculty hate for being himself but he just genuinely wants what’s best for all the students. Rock on guys !
I don't know how Tiny Desk does it. But every time, and I mean EVERY time an artists touches my soul tiny desk gets around to providing them a place to show their fans another side entirely. From Mac Miller, Ben Howard, Hozier to Flatbush Zombies and now even The War on Drugs? Incredible. Thank you all so much.
Imagine watching this 10 years from now. It’s bring back memories of how much Covid threw us all for a loop. The make shift home studio and sound guy with a mask on in the background. Can’t wait to see this live. Thankful for this band.
Walking to the pier a week or so ago at the end of Under The Pressure I had an ecstatic moment. The puffy clouds countering the bright blue sky, the softness of the ocean waves on either side of me and the sound. And the sound. It was a true moment of pureness, oneness and complete peacefulness. I was charged and full-filled.
Heard them last nite @Edmonton Folk Music Festival...August 5th 2022. Best live band I have heard...I am 75 and was at Woodstock 1969...and seen a lot since...
lottalove!! Listening to this guys, amazing, my 5 months daughter didnt stop crying because she was sleepy and soon they she fell to sleep, like magic!!
Ive been listening to music all my life. This is THE best band i think ive ever heard. You flick all the right switches, hit every possible emotion and sound like nothing ive ever found - but have always been searching for. Man, what a band. Thank you.
This version of I Don't Live Here Anymore sounds like an entirely different song and it's just as amazing as the studio version. I don't know how you guys do it.
@@cdbrown30 watch Rig Rundown with Adam and his many amps! Serious dude and those amps, beautiful, and guitars, and I never cease to be amazed when I watch him play guitar! Or each and every member of this band. Just love these guys!
When things were at their very worst: 2 Suns, Cross in the sky, 2 comets will collide = don`t be afraid - repent, accept Lord`s Hand of Mercy. Scientists will say it was a global illusion. Beware - Jesus will never walk in flesh again. After WW3 - rise of the “ man of peace“ from the East = Antichrist - the most powerful, popular, charismatic and influential leader of all time. Many miracles will be attributed to him. He will imitate Jesus in every conceivable way. Don`t trust „pope“ Francis = the False Prophet - will seem to rise from the dead - will unite all Christian Churches and all Religions as one. One World Religion = the seat of the Antichrist. Benedict XVI is the last true pope - will be accused of a crime of which he is totally innocent. "Arab uprising will spark global unrest - Italy will trigger fall out." "Many events, including ecological upheavals, wars, the schism in My Church on Earth, the dictatorships in each of your nations - bound as one, at its very core - will all take place at the same time." The Book of Truth.
Ce groupe a un son qui prend aux tripes, j'ai connu beaucoup de bons groupes depuis 64 mais eux je les ai découvert récemment et je ne m'en lasse pas , aucun déchet dans tous leurs titres 💓💓💓
Mason, I sometimes find songs that sound better live, e.g., Stairway To Heaven. And listening to TWOD here, I agree. These sound better than the studio album versions.
I keep coming back to this. It’s like balm for the soul. Stellar performance from all, but Dave Hartley’s bass lines and supporting vocals really shine thru in this performance. Vibes for days……..
One of the best rock bands EVER to be put together. Note how they sound the same "unplugged" as on a produced album. It's a very mature, polished sound. Keep up the great work, guys... the whole world is listening!
I was driving home one evening around 2014 & a song came on the radio (Red eyes) & I couldn’t believe what I was listening to , Ive been hooked since ! The new album is fantastic
Honestly, this notion we have that a live band can sound identical to the album is just impossible, and that's from a sheer logical sense. For example; guitar recording. About 99% of bands double track guitars, meaning they record once send it to the left side, then record it again send it to the right, that produces a stereo effect. Sometimes bands even do that 4 times. Basically what I am saying is that we shouldn't expect to get the same sound as in studio, that's not what live playing is about, I mean, it kinda is but it's also about you seeing the musicians, feeling the good vibe etc. Sorry I did my master's degree on that very topic, and I just wanted to babble about it I guess
This must be a new definition of "Tiny Desk Home" where home looks like a professional recording studio with infinite supply of vintage gear. Not jealous in the slightest :)
It feels like growing up. I swear their music is a walk through unproduced John Hughes films. Timeless and nostalgic, it makes you feel in the best ways
One of the few bands who continue to grow, and are equally as great, if not better, live, where they really shine. Their music is meant to glow on the stage to a sunset dotted by thin, wispy clouds, clear skies upon an expansive horizon. Music is poetry with these gentlemen.
@@adamsensenig5750 Lost in the Dream is probably the best album of the teens. It's In Rainbows levels. It's such a great album, every single song on it.
This band definitely saved my life during the pandemic… they made me feel safe and calm 💜I’m pretty excited because I will see them for the first time!
This is one band who always sound better live than their studio work. I will never forget hearing them play under the pressure at Brixton Academy a few years back. Spine tingling. Adam’s guitar playing was phenomenal. So humble too!
I find myself coming back to this version of "I Don't Live Here Anymore" often. I would love this to be on an official album or hear it live like this someday. It sounds like a totally different song and it's phenomenal.
Been my favorite band for quite some time now. It just feels like you get their best every time they perform. They continue to set the standard for any band who wants to create music at the highest level.
It wouldn’t be the War On Drugs if they didn’t take a song to a different place from the album version like they did with “I don’t live here anymore”. I just didn’t think it would happen the very first time they play it live. Love this band so much.
I had never heard this version of "I Don't Live here anymore" and I can say with certainty that it is more beautiful now, that piano and those arrangements, my god, what a beautiful version.
I have a spattering of all time favourite songs that I’ve added over a period of many years. Since finding TWOD I’ve added a handful of theirs that really touch my soul. Two of the most prominent are the live versions of An Ocean Inbetween The Waves and Under The Pressure. The latest album is great too and right now Harmonia’s Dream is playing on repeat.
Same here. I would add Eyes to the Wind to the list of favorites. Like the other songs from Lost in the Dream, it is better live (e.g., on Live Drugs or Lowlands 2018).
he's starting to improvise the vocal delivery with different arrangements these last few years; one of my favorite approaches in live performance. I don't find it especially interesting to just try and replicate the studio album performance. Justin Vernon has this mastered, too. Love this band and their new album.
Saw them live in Chicago last year - one of the best most amazing concerts in my 57 years here. Love their sound, tone, lyrics - they are so complete!!
