Just remember that in the journey to achieve our own style, we can often get influenced by trends. So, something that seems dated right now from 2017 or whenever, might catch our eye again in a couple of years. I’ve just learned this from my experience, where I felt I needed to be ruthless when clearing my wardrobe, only to regret getting rid of things that simply weren’t for “right now”
Laini Ozark is one of my fav style youtubers because she is pretty much anti-closet cleanout and often styles old clothes/her mom's clothes/swapped friends' clothes/her bf's clothes. Her styling isn't always for me, but I love her philosophy around consumption and trends and it makes me think differently about my own wardrobe- that keeps me coming back.
I have been keeping clothes from my high school and uni days, bcs I knew fashion is circular and I might wanna wear it later. Then I moved to another country last year and took all my clothes to the donation shop. Guess which fashion came back and is seen all over fast fashion websites...the EXACT same clothes I got rid of a year ago. It's not that I follow trends and HAVE to wear what is out there...I just feel like I wanted to be minimalistic or at least size down and now I regret it and I freaking HATE regretting things!
absolutely loooove all of your clothing content. my style is the complete opposite to yours but I just love hearing you talk about fashion and clothing and outfits and it gives me so much inspiration for my own wardrobe!!
I loved how introspective this was - I also found that combining elements of my life into my style was the best way to feel like me. for the longest time, I had sections in my closet for different situations, but then I realized that they were all part of me. so even just mixing them or mixing elements really helped. thank you for putting it into words and being my forever hair inspo
YESSSSS i looove love love that you're including more androgynous pieces and mixing fem and slightly more masculine clothes together. I have a very similar, curvy body shape and a round face and I feel like you're on to something I feel refreshed and inspired just watching this👀
Use alcohol hand-sanitiser on ink stains! I had a pen burst on my trousers and rubbed hand sanitiser in, let it sit for a few hours, then washed. Ink stain came out! The treatment was done as soon as I spotted the stain so can’t say if it works on older stains, but worked a treat on my one
I totally get what you mean about your “natural assets” hindering your shot at androgyny. I always say that I basically dress in menswear 90% of the time. I’m fairly androgynous in my style but because of my midsize to plus size body and boobies (!!) I am just never going to be seen that way.
Hey Lucy! The white dress that you tailored is so pretty, I think it just needs straps to hold the top of it up so it doesn’t look funny. When you pull it up in the video you can tell it would look fab with that support.
i’ve always had a very personal style - people have described it as “weird” and “funny-looking” which i honestly love and wear like a badge of honour, since i live in the countryside (i guess if i lived in a big city like london people wouldn’t look at me twice, but still) - it’s very eclectic which i love. anyway i realised lately that if i had to give it a name it would be “off-duty wizard” 🧙🏻
honestly i love juxtaposing soft and more structured/'hard' styles too- in regards to the glasses, i have a super soft face too and realised that larger frames kinda emphasise that BUT i got black rectangular frames recently and it added that sharpness which i adored & i saw you with a pair similar on your insta story a couple weeks ago and they suited u so well!! ⭐
This was such a relaxing and eye opening video. I’ve been struggling with fluctuating weight this year and so I feel like my wardrobe is just not where it needs to be. But while watching your video I decided to pull everything out. Give it a healthy wash because some things have been hanging for so long and assess if I even like them before the went in the wash. I feel so much lighter and I can’t wait to start a new wardrobe where I feel happy with it. Thank you for the motivation ❤
Second time I'm watching this video in full because there's so much to love. The editing, the music, Lucy's voice. BUT - there's so much I relate to. I, at almost 28, have also I think finally discovered my style and I've gone through a few versions in my 20s. And I look back like, what a shame I've only really found what works for me now, and it's so comforting to see Lucy going through the same. And you have to go through all those versions to achieve your own style.
@haneefahkhanam3480 who is responsible though? The parents that supported & kept Hamas in power. If you kidnap my kid & then use your own kids as shields even I come to rescue my kid YOU are the criminal, not me.
Finally a RU-vidr seeing Gaza and mentioning it openly. Makes me like you more for being a caring human. 😊💕 Also, such a relatable video. I too think my style has evolved a lot lately.
Yesss, more long-form style content please! Also if you’re still wondering about the mesh/ sheer synthetic shirt, & Other Stories have a similar one made of natural fibres right now (I work there 😅)
This video was so good ! Seeing you going through all of the steps and seeing how confident you feel about your style and yout wardrobe by the end of it. It makes me want to do exactly that with my own wardrobe ! Please please make other videos about finding your style, outfit formulas, .... Thank you for this video!
this is so helpful! I love how in depth your thought process is and how much you care about stuff - it really comes across in the way you create your content. It's just really fulfilling content to consume - both artistically, and practically. Love hearing your thought process on all of this
My technique when trying to decide if a skirt is too short is to force myself to wear it on three different occasions. If I'm still self consciously worrying about how much is showing, or constantly tugging it down/adjusting it by the third wear, it has to go.
I’m so excited to watch this. I’ve been a long time fan and I am currently flopped on my bed, in paralysis from cleaning out my wardrobe for a move. Excited to catch up with you and watch this!
“Hi-low” how interesting…so this was definitely a thing in 2015; example wearing flowy black chiffon pants with sneakers and t-shirt, one of my favorite outfits back then and I’d definitely do again now. It’s worked at Nordstrom at the time and just loved getting ready for work 🥰
I really enjoyed your video and the little style journey 😍 and also love your style and the items you picked out. I think you really have an eye for outfits! Always thought that watching your previous videos! While I enjoy fashion content and consider myself somewhat of a fashion girly myself, I think it’s important to remember that you don’t have to have a certain style. I know you didn’t mean it that way, when you said following trends doesn’t represent one’s personal style, but I feel like it totally can! It’s absolutely okay, to not be unique with our clothing choices. Uniqueness can be an indicator of a personal style but it’s not the sole basis for that. I know your message was meant to be more something like “wear and buy only what fits and makes you feel comfortable, pretty, hot etc.“ but that also can be achieved for some with just mainstream fashion and trends.
Would highly recommend Allison’s book “wear it well”! I felt like it was a holistic process built on all her style tips and helped me tremendously. I’ve read it twice since finding it in January! She talks about being all those girls at once, and how fundamental “universal wardrobe essentials” are, which is what I think you were getting at too!
Not gonna lie I gasped when you said you were an autumn in that berry colored sweater. You always glow in fuschia berry so I thought you were a dark winter!
But the blue sweater she had on as well as most of her clothes wash her out so she’s definitely not a cold season. Perhaps she’s a dark autumn, which would explain looking good in some deeper winter colours
Love your nails!! Perfection!! You don't have a round soft face, you just don't have the buccal fat trend look - which makes people look sick and unattractive. You have more of a square face with angular features which a great for photography. I'm a photographer, trust me. You have great cheekbones! Thanks for your videos!
You know, for the little sleeveless dress you got tailored, I think adding straps might help? When you pulled it up I think it looked really nice. Mainly, thank you for the fabulous advice, I think it might have helped me have a breakthrough with similar problems I've been having!
Hi Lucy, new subscriber here, originally from Egypt and immediately subscribed after hearing Oxfam Gaza.. thank you for supporting our brothers and sisters in Palestine and for the lovely video
A style system that really helped me figure out where I want to go with my personal style was Ellie Jean Royden's Style Roots system. It helped me figure out the simular elements of the looks and aesthetics I liked so I could combine them in to something that felt like me, rather than something that felt like like a costume.
Yes 100% to items fitting perfectly! This has been my problem with shopping recently - I'll get something that's 85% correct, and some things can be tailored but other things just aren't worth it. The latter? She's gone.
a friend got paint all over my puffer jacket (rude) but I got it all off with acetone without ruining the coat at all! so if micellar water isn't cutting it you could probably tackle the stains yourself with some stronger solvents, just do a patch test first to be sure
I’m also round and soft and I know the clothes fitting struggle! I’ll say Everlane Way High 90s has been the perfect Jean for my body shape! It fits my waist but is still a little loose over my butt/hips (which have their own area code), so if you’re still jeans searching check out those. They have some on clearance too.
I've just put some winter clothes in storage and some others that don't currently fit or I'm not wearing. I also put some clothes to donate. I had just bought a new dress today and I have too much stuff. But because only two of my summer skirts fit me I just needed another dress 😬. After all that I still have a lot of clothes. Three wardrobe's full to be precise 😲. At least my hangers are moving more freely now. I just find it so hard to part with things because I'm a hoarder. But when I put stuff away it removes the attachment feelings I get to things. Then I can often get rid of things I was struggling to at first.
hi hun, you can move that plug socket and its a small job, thats an external jack socket so its a case of taking it off a wall and moving it and repainting
Yes and then instead of addiction control over environment, i find i have exactly what I need and i often also want it, so i can let go of obsessing about it. Thus no need to touch it.
You might be a Gamine body type (kibbe body type system) like me. They do great with high contrast in their outfits. I also felt for years that many clothes felt off on me (too feminine or too stiff). Even with colors, monochrome just looks weird on me, even if I stick to my colors. I thought I was an autumn season, but it looked off, I can't wear cream and orange, but winter is too cool for me. So again I looked for the in-between seasons with lots of contrast in colors and it has worked so far. It was an insightful video for me! :D
I could see that. She says her face is so soft but I think it's actually quite angular in some ways. She has a strong bone structure and sharp nose shape. I think that's why a mix of soft and sharp suits her so well.
I wish I had more of a personal style! I haven't really updated my wardrobe since 2018 due to funds, and it's definitely showing in some areas. I'm still wearing my university/grad student wardrobe. I'm quickly approaching 30 and definitely still feel pretty juvenile in my style. Looking for inspiration here!!
I can't understand why people buy stuff online...not clothes anyway, I like to try it on, see the fit, see if the colour suits me... if its only online, I just wont be buying it!! I love a shop.
I don't know if you've already tried this - if you have plz ignore me - but if you're still trying to get the ink stain out of the top re: 4:10 try rubbing alcohol (or acetone like nail polish remover)! Ink is alcohol and by adding more alcohol to it, it can pick the stain stain right up. I horrifyingly had a pen burst all over my suede birkenstock clogs and I swear to god, the rubbing alcohol made them look as good as new!
Dye remover for the purse. Ink stain use hairspray to remove. Look up many home remedy’s for stains. I’ve been able to remove some tough stains - acrylic paint, lipstick, oils - just from products around the house. 🥰👍
I need to do a closet try on and really prioritize finding my style. I gravitate towards patterns/florals, boho, and cottagecore. I don’t think light pinks are my color but I wear them anyway lol.
I love the pink/red/purple jumper on you! It’s what I associate with you now which is honestly really cool. I couldn’t find it on the linked website and I’d like to see if I can find it secondhand :)
Lucy Moon you are a Summer! You are not an autumn. You and Lena do not have the same undertone. You look great in greys and blues and pinks. You shine in pastels and navy. That dress you said would fit a winter... is actually in autumn colors.
See I had a clear out when I moved about 5 months ago but I don’t know what my style is 😢 so when I look at buying clothes I just feel frumpy! Just given up for now and where long T-shirts and leggings alll the time 😅 struggle as I have kids and walking dogs loads too so don’t really have much time to pick outfits either…. I’ve starting running so hoping it will get me more confident with my body to actually go shopping x
Seems like your lifestyle requires a more practical and casual wardrobe right now. What about one pair of quality jeans, in a cut that suits you well. Jeans are very strong, they can handle dog hair and dirt. And if you need something quick and easy to pair with it, choose a few simple but well fitting and made tshirts. You canf elevate it with your belt, jewlery, maype and eyeliner. But we dont need something fancy, that cant handle our lifestyle ❤
For those inspired to tailor their clothes, there are often local work from home seamstresses who can also do alterations for you 😊 shout out on your local Facebook group or equivalent
I loooved this video. Came at such a good time as I've been in a rut with my style too and have just discovered the wonders of Vinted! Boring question, but how do you weigh up practicality and style? I always lean towards wearing stuff that's warmer/more comfortable over the Look but want to get better and getting the balance right! Especially as the weather has been all over the place in the UK the past few months
Great question! Practicality wins always, but that might be a bit easier for me due to my style being so casual. I try to buy clothes that make sense with how I wear them on the day-to-day - for example I think about the necklines of all new sweaters and which tops will sit under them well. In terms of building outfits, I check the weather every morning and layer / choose shoes that are appropriate! Investing in jackets has REALLY helped, and so has slowly breaking in any boots and shoes. Finally, I tend to go for a slightly lower or wider heel when I buy “nice” boots so I’m comfortable for longer. Hope this helps!
i have exactly you body type and face and i feel exactly the same way about my curly hair, too much roundness!!!! straighter hair looks better on me because it creates a sharper angles.
Hi! Regarding clothes only staying if they fit perfectly: I know in the past you’ve said your body fluctuates quite a bit. Do you just get things re-altered? Just curious! I’m not familiar with how many times a garment can be altered
any tips for selling online ? Sadly vinted is not in Canada, so I use depop and poshmark, and just selling occasionally some things. It used to work pretty well but it's now been so difficult.
I love this video and love seeing your thought process/reflections in realtime. The green dress you're wearing at 5:45, where is it from? I couldn't find it on your LTK and it is goorgeous!
I found a lot of stuff online, shops in my area just aren't caring for me anymore. However, I've got much better at checking a stores RETURNS POLICY! Yes, you have to pay postage, but better $10 for that, than hundreds squandered. This resale sites are great but younever get your money back. Usually sale items can't be returned but I make sure I'm either REALLY sure or its so cheap I dont mind donating it.
