It's a cult classic and a bit campy, I honestly think it just sort of got lost. Alien, Mad Max, Apocalypse Now to name a few, although for 1979 Releases, this is the 4th best rated movie according to IMDB. So why it truly got forgotten I couldn't even begin to guess why.

I'll never forget playing the story with a friend in co-op and we got to the punk bar mission, we couldn't stop laughing that you can stop the band playing, grab their instruments and start beating them and the crowd with them, if you got overwhelmed by the crowd you could jump up on a pool table and start lobbing pool balls in every direction, that was mind blowing at the time.

One thing i like about this game is after every mission, we get to listen to the radio hearing the current event. As well as the impact the gang is making in the city like how we are going-up the ranks of the city's gang hierarchy. An other events going on around the city with other gangs and what they are doing.
@quinnmarchese6313
@quinnmarchese6313 11 месяцев назад
the irony of everybody saying "back when devs took risks" is that making a movie tie in was basically the opposite of a risk, regardless of the movie--The Warriors is a certainly an "out-there" movie to do, but consider this: you don't have to write too much of a story, since you're mostly just taking whats there, you don't have to make original assets, as you have the film to look at for how things should look, you have a (relatively) easy casting process as long as there are folks willing to come reprise their roles, and you pair all that with the hottest developer in the game at the time, coming hot off of San Andreas, and you kinda had a no brainer good game on your hands. the same points also stand with bad tie ins for like Shrek and parents will get their kids those games without knowing better, and those kids would unironically love them anyway. it only became a risk in the PS3 era when it became pretty common knowledge that movie tie ins were becoming lazy cash grabs.
@dorenjackson1166
@dorenjackson1166 11 месяцев назад
As a kid I didn’t realize how innovative it was. Ofc GTA used the same idea with radio giving updates but I remember being glued to this game when I friends had it back then. The split screen co-op was all we needed but when the story was the icing on the cake & the gameplay was cherry on top. Circa 2006-2008 were plenty restless nights just playing through this story with different combinations with my friends & siblings. Masterpiece

This game influenced me so much as a kid, I remember being in 5th grade starting a gang at school where we had our own hangout by the sand pits and then another kid at school who is still my friend to this day started a gang called purple dragons, a long story short we had a turf war and regardless of how young we all were we came home with bruises that day. We got in so much trouble, parents ended up getting involved and their was a long lecture about gangs and violence at the school parade thanks to this incident. I remember my mum snapping this warriors game disc right in front of me, I was so sad and tried for months to see if the disc would still read haha PS: I grew up in a nice and safe town in Australia where gangs and violence were definitely not a problem.

You mentioned early on in the review about not being able to do damage to your fellow Warriors, and it reminded me of a funny experience I had with the game. I was on the late game mission where the Punks follow you into the bathroom. I wanted 100% completion which involves getting the high score, so I needed 2000 points before I could exit the level. I'm about 500 short, all the enemies are dead, and I've broken every destrucible prop in the room. It occured to me that environmental head smashes are worth a good chunk of points. So with no other options I targeted Cowboy, grappled him over to the mirrors, and threw him into the wall a couple times. Easy points!

I recently watched Streets of Fire, and I am convinced that, that movie and the warriors are the main inspiration for the entire Beat em up genre that dominated the late 80's to early 90's arcades. The night time metroplean areas, the punk look and and neon backdrops. The small group of people vs an onslaught of gang memebers etc. etc. Both Streets of Fire and The Warriors are directed by Walter Hill who also directed the classic 80's buddy cop movies 48 hrs and Red heat.

I cannot thank you enough for doing this video about this gem called " The Warriors " I cannot fathom nor express my love towards this game as it is one of the promising and a convincing game as it is based from a movie. The movie "The Warriors" had a special place to my heart as it depicts how gangs run the streets before and the way how rockstar made it into a game and became underrated. The game needs more attention by the developers and hope that they make a remastered version of it. The tone, the style, the soundtrack, and THE GAME MENU.... I had nothing but good time and nostalgia while playing this game. Great work and great video!

One of my favorite combat systems in a beat em up ever. The memories I have of playing through this game together woth my brother after we first watched the movie will stay with me forever. So many laughs and just a fun time. The run and body slam was so fun to hit people with, grabbing and throwing was satisfying and he and I would often just attack each other in the game for fun. It could get tedious, one level late in the game had you spray paint multiple trains at a train yard and that level just went on and on. The chase sequence from the High Hats was fucking hilarious with how quickly you could die and the amount of restarts and laughs we had was something I wish I could relive. Not really a big Rockstar fan but this game will forever be one of my favorite co op games and I'm just really happy this got made. Also that soundtrack was great, like he said in the intro, some of the music could evoke some creepy horror vibes which fit the often dark tones of the game and movie. Go listen to the main theme from the movie too, the song is really good and played at some really hype moments in the game. Thanks for bringing more attention to this absolute classic.

This is one of those handful of games after finishing that gave me that "feeling* when you know you've experienced something special and what do you do with life now as that menu music pulsates. I enjoyed it so much I spent my money to grab the film. I sadly didn't enjoy it all that much on first viewing. The game just fleshed out the characters so we'll it didn't hit right starting from the run home. A more mature me watched it a few years later with a better appreciation for film and loved it. Enough to listen to the director comments when I learnt about Fox getting killed off (can't believe you didn't mention this omg do your job /s) I think you, and self admitted the lack of buffing your characters hurt your overall experience as It really makes a difference but wow, I don't recall that many throwing objects fights. It got boring just in the video seeing that many. This is one of those games I'd give my favourite nutsack to get remade. Turf control mechanics, an explorable world that feels less empty and more rewarding to explore. I spent hours just bopping around Coney wishing I could just run and bop some fools in another terf with no strings. We can dream anyway as this game feels getting made initially was some stars aligning. Back when Rockstar actually made more than 1 game and had creativity.

I believe this is still to date the best game to ever be made after a movie. Every single aspect from the lore, gameplay, story, environment, ambiance, soundtrack, etc., was executed perfectly in tune with the source. A lot of people criticized the wonky combat in big crowds, but I actually think that's one of the coolest aspects of the game. It's not supposed to be a slick martial arts story with a one-man-army, it's supposed to depict the oppressive chaos of fighting in big numbers while just throwing wild punches like crazy and trying to survive. The characters don't control like typical fighting games where you feel light like a feather, move quick and hit hard. Instead, all the characters and NPC's feel like they have realistic weight and physics on them. Crashing against other thugs makes them awkwardly tumble and fall over and viceversa. If you get knocked down to the ground it takes a while for your character to recover from his stunned state. You can drag each other around while you struggle to break free. If your soldiers fall and you're the last one standing you quickly get overwhelmed by numbers, thrown to the ground and kicked to death with no chance to stand up. Running away is not easy and you will quickly get tackled down and surrounded if you miss a single step. It's all part of the experience and I love it. Truly a love letter in the form of a game.

I absolutely loved how the final level of the game covered the entire movie, culminating in the final showdown to end the game. I loved how during the game credits you could trash The Rogues out on the beach for a minute or two. There were a few landmark games for the PS2. Manhunt was fantastic. The Thing was the official sequel to the John Carpenter's movie, and it was fantastic. The Thing would be a great game to modernize. The game play was awesome.
