Always hard to pull the plug but definitely the right call. COVID + altitude is a terrible combo. Eventually you get terrible cough - amazing you managed so far and glad you are recovering!

Unbelievable scenery, those mountains are unreal. I'm dying to get out west for some trail runs! Also love getting Will's support perspective! Killer grind out there! I can't imagine even STARTING a 100 miler while dealing with any kind of cold. Hope you're recovering well from Covid and the race. Looking forward to following along for your next adventure!

What a unique experience even though it wasn’t the one you planned for! I will be in your neck of the woods next weekend running the Canal Corridor 100! I thought my schedule would prevent me from getting in a WS100 qualifier this year but I was able to work it out last minute.

Nice video. It looks like you (and your brother) really had fun. This race is on my wish list. Big goal, one day!

Congrats on the amazing performance. I also DNF'd on this one too, the smoke was a variable I don't think any of us anticipated.

I just watched this and cringed as I went through almost the EXACT scenario in February with no altitude or mountain views at the Rocky Raccoon 100 in February. I did not have Covid but had a nasty cold/sinus infection and was on mucinex and Claritin the whole race. I had that dehydration and dizziness as well despite drinking and fueling. I crumbled at mile 60 and spent a half hour alone next to a space heater fighting hypothermia. It’s so damn hard to train and plan and manage work and family commitments so long for these events and get sick the week of the race. I know I can bluff my way through 50-60 miles sick but 100 mile races will find and expose ANY weakness you have and I won’t try it again. I’m sorry for your outcome but it looks like you had a great adventure nonetheless
