Vale Karl Wallinger Karl Wallinger was one of the best and greatest musicians/ composers / producers and collaborators in music history. Sadly the great man has died aged 66. He passed away peacefully at his home. My throat is tight and my eyes fill with tears. Karl's music holds a very special place in my heart and soul. RIP mate you were a genius of the music world. Always in our hearts.
This. This. THIIIIISSSS! The dream time line up, great sound, great coverage, 3 fantastic songs, captured a perfect moment in time. Videoed it in 1984, played it to death. So good to see and hear it again after all these decades. Thanks for uploading STV.
Roddy Lorimar, Karl Wallinger and Anto!!! I love this. One of the best songs ever made. I love this song. I’d love to see this live. Along with Rags of course.
The Tube was the show that launched so many bands to success. Who would have thought it, a programme on Channel 4 at 5.30!! I watched it religiously every Friday.
Just really good (soul refreshing good) to see and hear Karl Wallinger in this live recording from 1984. I've a lot of respect for him. Also appreciate The Waterboys. Been listening since 1986. But DAMN those percussive keyboards!! Good stuff 💖
Fantastic! I saw them supporting U2 in Manchester shortly before this. Still the best gig I've been to! When I saw the Waterboys I thought 'Wow - they are great!' and instantly became a fan. And then U2 were mind-blowing.
I imagine it was the "unforgettable fire" tour? I saw them at Wembley and thought that they were amazing. I was already familiar with some of their songs.
One of my favourite invocations of Mike Scott's lifelong musical odyssey (there have been many more since) but this band and this musical vision is just superb. Thank you for posting the full Tube performance STV, so brilliant to be able to see it in it's entirety. Glad that Mike continues on his musical quest - long may he do so.
One of those times (as a 16 year old) and you go "WOW!" thank you The Waterboys, and Tyne Tees for showing live artists. 3 x songs... so varied and brilliant. I bought A Pagan Place after this. Wonderful album.
I was first introduced to their music in 1984, when they (Waterboys) opened up for U2 at the Civic Center in San Francisco. A few years later I joined the Navy, My first command was in the Persian Gulf and to my delight the BBC played their music, which helped make my time there more tolerable. Great Band. Thank you for posting the video.
This is great, I just happened upon it, the image quality is excellent, great camera work , I can’t believe this is 36 years old, it feels so fresh, showing my age😉
This was the first time I saw/heard the Waterboys and they instantly became my favourite band. 37 years later, they still are and I am booked in to see them twice later in the year. This is a fabulous video, thanks for posting.
@Rick B. That was my first gig too...The Moore Theatre, Seattle, WA. They had an Native American Chief open up the show doing a traditional Indian dance.
@@StratsRUs does Karl Wallinger have a book, too? I gotta read Mike Scott's book. What's it called? I'd like to read both Wallinger's and Scott's perspectives on their experience of this time. ✌️💖
If you read the lyrics of Return of pan he's telling us about baphomet or pan the god of music...if your into the devil worship stuff in the music industry you will understand such as pagan place..girl called Jonny is pan that comes in woman form making a deal with the devil for fame power money..sure pan appears in body's, animals etc..to get us to worship them and not Jesus Christ and son of God...pagan place is earth and sons of men...we are sons of God the one god..do not be decieved...vulture of the souls etc..return of pan describes it more...they say the gods are just a myth well guess who I've been dancing with...the devil is very much alive..great stuff
Saw these guys at The Marquee, pretty cool sound, venue, live stuff and overall mood of the club that night, I remember looking up to the vocalist, the guy looked like Mick Jagger more than Mick himself. LOL
ScottishTeeVee Also, please upload all of it, if you can! I’m a member of a few Waterboys groups and know a few people close to the band, who would all love to see that!
@@Lorrico14 I will but I try to prioritise uploads going by previous views of videos by them, if this video gets more views, then more rare waterboys video will follow.
This band - The Waterboys - came out around the same time as U2 did and even at one point both bands performed live together. They both went their separate ways and now history is made based on countless albums full of songs written over the many upon many years since the early 80s. One band has have millions upon millions of views to their songs while the other has not but… there’s no doubt that the second band called The Waterboys is equally as great as the other. It does not matter your following count but rather what you produced and it’s quality
Yeah i have this on VHS as well, I must say though I don't miss the hiss, I heard Seventeen going under by Sam Fender and was trying to think what it reminded me of and it was A Pagan place, I know they are different but the strumming and the sax definitely a touch there.
Ha! Ha! Were you like me?You used to watch the Tube on Friday and note down what you would tape on the Sunday repeat? I had this taped but the quality didn’t survive like your collection. thanks. Keep it up.👍🏻
Yeah, initially I would watch and record bits of the show, bands that I was interested in, then by 86 I found it easier to record the full thing complete with commercials and like you, I'd note down what I recorded, so each tape has an insert detailing exactly what's on it. Do you still have your tapes or all long gone?
Hey, love what you do and big fan of the channel and am a subscriber. I have a pretty large playlist of music videos and live performances, made from a few digital playlists put together, to play on the tv. One of my favourites by these guys is Church Not Made With Hands. If you have a live performance of this song I would appreciate you posting it very much. It currently stands as my favourite song not in the video playlist. Thanks, best wishes and success.
I saw them at Parkhead I think? Lloyd Cole was playing too. Early 80’s? I doubt there’s any footage of that but I think it was on the old grey whistle test🤔
I don't have it. I Don't have much by Scott Walker, other than a 19 minute VHS EPK (Electronic Press Kit) tape sent to me by his record company, if its not already online, then I will upload it.
I was a big fan of The Smithereens and I have already uploaded that performance, you can see all my Smithereens uploads, so far, via this playlist ru-vid.com/group/PLMe0CUMuSN6Gure9uZXcZc-qnjJN7D-44
Man the audience is not doing the Scots any favors. They all seem dead to the amazing groudbreaking music they're being exposed to. Except for a few people in the back letting loose. What a waste of amazing talent, and an amazing band. So sad I was not old enough to see the power lineup of Scott, Wallinger and Thistlethwaite
Karl Wallinger went on to write much better songs than those here. Mike Scott was the weaker partner. Pagan Place has little going for it musically, no modulations, borrowed chords or surprises and is really just folk music.
