I am glad to see this. I've used Art Toolkit for several years and LOVE them, love this kind of palette. Since I'm in the US, They are super convenient. So, I'm going to make a few comments that are primarily addressed to US viewers. Art Toolkit now has a "folio palette" which is about 2x the size of this; this size is referred to by them as a "pocket palette". ATK also has a "demi" palette, about 1/2 the size of the pocket (middle size) palette. What might be of special interest to urban sketchers wanting larger pans is that ATK also sells just pans for paint. If you have a color you want to include but won't use much, there's a quarter pan (1/2 the size of the pans shown here). And, there are also pans 2x (double) the size of these. I'm not trying at all to divert attention from this vendor. But US people might prefer a US seller due to cheaper shipping for us, just like what you bought will likely ship cheaper for you! (I love the VW sticker! We had 3 VW buses as I grew up, and they towed a camper and held 6 kids across the US)

Mary - absolutely - I LOVE the Art Toolkit range - shame I just cant get them here :/ OOH ME TOO!! I owned 3 campervans, my first at 21 - a classic 1969 bay window, and then a 1990's T3 which was awesome and then a 1980's type 25....love love love them so much. Thanks so much for your information regarding Art Toolkit.

There are vintage and antique mini art palettes just like this been around a long time just different designs by different people. Love mini art supplies so cute 😍

Finally a teeny palette that is easy to use with larger brushes... and without shipping costing as much as the product for us in the UK. Added to my wishlist 👍😁

I love my ArtToolKit ones of these. I got the Samantha Dion Baker one first which got me into Greenleaf & Blueberry paints which I absolutely adore. I recently book the larger folio palette and am just waiting for the funds to top up my tubes of paint so I can finish filling it. I like carrying a lot of colours even though each painting will have a restricted palette. I just never know which restrictions I want to apply until I start painting!

I have the SDB palette also. And another company in the US making handmade paints is Letter Sparrow; she often uses the ATK palette. I like Greenleaf & Blueberry paints, but I've found the customer service there to be bad. Emails are not replied to - I've lost purchases because of that. Dates for sales have been wrong, etc. I am probably not a great fit for her casual methods.

Very nice review. I have a similar size card holder that I was going to use like this, but the mixing area didn't have a lip on it. This product here seems to have done a good job. Metallic and magnetic also gets us away from the usual plastic products. For a compact travel pallete it packs a punch with all those pans. The manufacturing quality looks good on the video.

Thank you for sharing this. It's great to see a review from a brand easier to get in the UK. Would love to hear how you get on with your colour selection and the art you produce with it.

Have you seen youtuber Yong Chen, he just works with 3 primaries. That would make a great video, and very useful for outside, or for those of us that only have a small area to work.

I've been toying with the idea of an Art Toolkit pocket palette for months, but as it's mega-expensive here in France, and I can't get the 14 pan version, and would have to buy them separately, I decided to do-it-myself. After further weeks of searching my limited local shops for the type of make-up palette to do the job, I finally found one. It cost €4 .00 / £3.42, /$US 4.30 / 80,55 ZRD. It is plastic, but it is perfect. It sits in the palm of my hand. Filled, it weighs only 44gms as opposed to the 145gms of my 14-pan metal box, and I can use a Rosemary & co size 10 brush in it. It has survived a a long, upward > downward curve through the air to land hard on the paving stones. Mission to reduce weight accomplished! I have still been tempted by art toolkit, but the NA palette came up in my Amazon feed recently, and I was really tempted, because the price is GBP 19.99 . Then this video popped up in my feed again today. I did a direct comparison with the ArtToolkit version. The differences are noticeable. EG: the Nomadic Artist set up really is simply a business card holder 'fitted' (well, sort-of) with similar half pans. Whereas the ATK pans fit exactly in to the box, these don't. As we saw in your video, there's room for them to slide up and down. Where the ATK version has a lipped lid, the NA doesn't. On Amazon UK, of 23 reviews, three are one star with the same thoughts as mine - the quality is jut not the same. I realise that the issue of shipping, etc makes buying from the US impossibly expensive, but while it is incredibly easy to set up a self-made palette from the right make-up palette, buying what is evidently an inferior product just doesn't make sense to me. (I can't see the sense in the popular Altoid-type tins, because they really don't save on the weight or space, while limiting the colours.) I'm chuffed to bits with my own-made palette, and really don't understand my hankering after the ATK, but think it's probably now been well and truly stifled! Just a thought, at the end of this long screed: how much have you actually used your NA set-up? Doing a quick check back though your videos, you seem to be using your 14 pan box in the few that you've made actually outside since you made this video. Genuine question - not trying to catch you out! 😊

Currently unavailable. :( That sucks. I hate half pans (I think of these as shallow full pans) for the very reason you mentioned, that I want to be able to use a size 10 or thereabouts brush, and it just doesn't fit into a half pan. If you try, you slosh paint all over surrounding pans and make a muddy mess. This arrangement looks very cool.

Hello, I’m keen to start sketching and am inspired by your videos. This palette featured here, would that work alright for gouache? I have a bunch of tubes and thought it’d be nice to bring out with me, once I get the courage that is. Cheers.

FAIL. So you’re going to carry around a giant magnet next to your computer, phone, and wallet? Let me know how that works out for you. Good for him for figuring out a way to re-sell a business card holder, that’s quite clever. But the magnets part? Not so much. At least not for something you’re meant to carry around at all times.

I am disappointed that you are plugging this product which is a 100% copy of the Art Toolkit pocket palette. The Art Toolkit company is a woman owned small business. The owner, Maria Coryell-Martin, spent years developing the pocket palette. I feel bad that she is being ripped off by a company that copied her idea down to the smallest detail (from what I can see in this video) and didn’t even add a single original design element.
@rogerehinger6694

How many of us have used an idea seen on You Tube? I've tried so many kinds of mints just for the tins to make small pallets, at least the wife no longer complains about my breath. So someone else found another use for a makeup tin.

Hi Tracey - I understand your feelings. Sorry about that. I did mention the original design (as far as I am aware is from Art Toolkit)....I have wanted to buy from them for a long time however being from the UK and now South Africa I just cannot get one without exuberant shipping...so for those of us who cannot get an Art Toolkit version, this is at least an option. Unfortunately after scouring Etsy, there are actually many companies selling a similar product :/ And you see this across not only the art supplies industry but all industries. But I do understand your concerns. There's no doubt if you're in the US then Art Toolkit is the place to go. I did mention in the video you don't necessarily have to buy this one, but the design is great for on the go sketching.

I would update your video to first mention the Art Toolkit palette. I understand folks that live outside of the US (myself included) with accessibility to products. But supporting another creator/maker that has blatantly ripped off another small woman owned business is exactly what we don't want to support in the global art community. Especially when this person is selling though Amazon (haven't checked personally) but that is the worst seller to have. If Amazon sees enough of a market for a particular product, they'll make it their own under their house brand making it worst for the original creator. I understand you're trying making this more accessible to other people by promoting a "local" vendor, but it would be best to mention the original creator (link to product) or just have people try to source all the materials locally to make it their own. That will show people how much work it takes to source/design a product like this and how unfair it is to steal someone's idea. The excuse that "everyone does it all across all industries" has no place in the global art community which I'm sure you support. Thank you. I'm sure you might not have been aware when you first promoted the product and I don't want to seem like this is an attack. Just a suggestion from a conscious artist .

It’s just a common saying meaning when out and about. Implying it’s easy to carry around whatever else you may be up to, which most art supplies aren’t.
