This is my absolute favorite Bruce Lee movie so thank you for reacting to this! Bruce and Chucks fight is legendary but there are also so many other scenes that stick out, like him training in the morning flexing his lats, the sidekick , the nunchuck fight in the alley. what people don't realize is that Chuck hits HARD. Bruce Lee had speed, but Chuck had power. that's why this was the ultimate martial arts showdown. if Bruce had gotten hit once by a good connect by Chuck, it would have been over. Bruce won by being faster and avoiding the hard hits.

No thats actually a misconception about Bruce he had speed and power..Martial artist Joe Lewis spoke on Bruce and said he hit like a heavyweight...theres actual a video on RU-vid pointing out the thick calisus on his knuckles as a result of punching hard surfaces to strengthen his knuckles

It's unfortunate that this is a film that genuinely doesn't work when dubbed into English. What is lost - and is an important point to this movie - is that Bruce's character cannot speak nor read English. When everyone's speaking English because of the dubbing it makes no sense as to why, for example, the waitress cannot understand that Tang Lung (Bruce Lee) is asking for eggs (which he asks for in the Chinese-language versions as well), or why Tang Lung doesn't understand what the bank manager is asking (in that scene in its original form both the bank manager and Nora Miao's character Chen were speaking in English, with Chen only speaking Chinese when interpreting for Tang Lung). The reason that the term "Chinese boxing" is used to name the kung-fu in this is because, at the time, the term "kung-fu" was not as globally known as it later became. Jon Benn (who played the evil boss in this film) was quite possibly the first westerner to call it "kung-fu" on film.

@@helifanodobezanozi7689 Actually, that *has* happened at least twice, most recently in last July's Arrow Video _Bruce Lee at Golden Harvest_ box-set (which came out in Blu-Ray or 4K Ultra HD). Arrow also later released _The Way of the Dragon_ (as well as other titles from that box-set) separately.

When my mom had bypass surgery, she was incredibly sick in the post-op period, and it looked like she wasn't going to make it. The doctors were scratching their heads in confusion for a couple of weeks but finally figured out what was wrong and modified her treatment. Up till then, she had so little energy, she couldn't stay up past 6 or 7pm, and she couldn't finish more than 1/3 of the feeding liquid prescribed for her. A few days after the treatment changed, she was able to finish more than half of her feeding liquid, and she managed stay up past 8pm because she wanted to watch "Walker, Texas Ranger" starring Chuck Norris on CBS. That's when I knew she had turned a corner and believed that she was going to live. Ever since then, Chuck Norris has had a special place in my heart.

Apparently Lee and Norris sparred to get an idea of how Lee wanted to choreograph the climatic fight. Norris said that Lee was a very offensive fighter, constantly probing to find an opponents Weakness, so Chuck just defended, blocking and staying out of the way and biding his time. This made Lee impatient and he accidentally got to close and met with a classic Norris round house that knocked him back several feet. Instead of getting annoyed Lee asked Norris how he did that. Norris said I just waited for my moment. I knew you would get frustrated and I hoped you'd try something rash, Norris had fought in more tournaments than lee and knew how cause an opponent to make mistakes . Norris showed Lee his defensive techniques.. But he said Lee never made the same mistake twice.
@paulpolpiboon9535
@paulpolpiboon9535 5 месяцев назад
I should point out why you're seeing the Cat! Lee could adapt to any field he entered, including film work. He was a fighter for the streets and a feared Master, but he quickly grasped the language of film even tho filmwork was not his field. He placed the cat in the scene because it was the analogy of the Tang Loong character (which is basically his real life persona; Bruce Lee). Notice how the cat is constantly mirroring him, when the cat yells out, HE yells out, so they yell out almost simultaneously, plus even their voices are similar (rather than deep baritone), Bruce Lee's Kyai's is a high pitched voice similar to a cats meow. Then in the beginning of the warm up, when Bruce Lee is stretching, the CAT is stretching. When Bruce Lee learns his mistake and has his epiphany in the fight and now knows what to do as he starts gaging Chuck Norris by playing with him and playfully using feints...the cat is also playing as it plays with some object on the floor. So if in the scene you pay attention to WHAT the cat is actually doing you'll notice it represents Bruce as their actions are parallel to each other. Which is to intentionally describe who Bruce Lee is; he is not a thundering Bear, or a mighty gorilla, he is this quick + agile creature, a nimble entity with such physical prowess and balance, just as a cat. So the cat was placed there for it's actions to mirror Bruce's actions, they always matched each other to showcase Bruce Lee's identity. That tool was perfect use for him since the Arena Coliseum was ACTUALLY littered with thousands of cats there (a haunting residual for all the lions that were actually slayed there hundreds of years ago). So Lee may have been new to film work but he was a quick study and knew how to speak it's language. This clever + insightful execution by Lee is usually lost upon the common viewer unfortunately. Not to go on rambling here, but another insightful expression that is unfortunately lost to viewers is Chuck Norris's death. His grave injuries essentially had himself debilitated, so he was crippled + completely harmless. So Bruce could just walk away and Chuck could do nothing about it, so why kill Chuck? Why kill a man who is so harmless that he couldn't even stop you from walking away? When Bruce and Chuck initially faced each other, you notice how they don't go into battle right away. They start warming up and psychologically getting themselves in the zone which is because they each realize the other is a Master and on their level. Colt (Chucks character) knows he was summoned because there's someone THAT good that needs a response of equal caliber, and when Bruce sees Chuck he knows that they went out and gotten the BEST to try and take care of him. So they each know they are "Master fighting Master", that the other is beyond formidable, such rare people in the world just have fighting as their LIVES. They only live to train every day and live to go and dominate and win, so their lives are for only VICTORY. Essentially, the two live the life of a Warrior. Not just some hired hitman, or mercenary, but the VERY best on the level of perfection and victory is the only thing for them as warriors...TO BE THE BEST. So the Warrior life that these types of folks live is a life of ALWAYS seeking + searching for who is supposed to be the best out there in the world to defeat. When Chuck knew he lost, he wanted to die like a Warrior. Bruce immediately understood what he wanted and he shook his head saying "don't do it, you don't HAVE to". But Chuck being a Warrior, who lived + breathed combat, wanted to die as a warrior. So Bruce, who respected him, reluctantly granted his fellow warrior his wish. Chuck died in battle as he wanted rather than the shame of defeat. Many viewers always wonder why Bruce killed him when he was already free to casually walk way, and so this is usually lost on them. When Bruce puts his KI and Black belt over Chucks dead body, he is infuriated that it came to this. He didn't like that Colt died, he didn't like that you sent this guy to get killed by him, the whole situation he blamed the enemy and had chased after, knowing that the enemy was around watching, as Bruce screams out "You BASTARRRRDS!!!!!!" So there's a lot of deep shit in this film for someone who's a fledgling director! But that was Bruce; he could adapt quite quickly to anything he had entered because of his JKD philosophy "Be like Water". If you put water into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. If you put water into a bucket it BECOMES that bucket. If you put Bruce Lee into Jiujitsu he'll become Jiujitsu, If you put Bruce Lee into boxing he'll become boxing, and if you put Bruce Lee into film work where he's out of his element...he'll become one who makes a great film! So Lee was not actually a film maker or an actor, he was a pillar of the Martial Art community and of course his famous published works are the JKD theories and principles that had revolutionized the approach on combat today. Last rambling: Thankfully, Bruce Lee was able to actually sneak in a few movies at the very last 1.5 year of his life. Prior to that...there are zero movies, he was simply a veteran at live combat. In live situations he had fought; Black Belts, Pro Fighters, Ex military, Champions, 3rd degree Masters, Rival Martial Artists, and opponents that outweighed him by 100 pounds. His battle experience started in his teenhood as the leader of the Hong Kong gang known as the Tigers of Junction Street and the violence had lead all the way to adulthood. The few movies he DID get to make were only at the last 1.5 years of his life which was a brief opportunity for him to report his life experiences and share his insights into live combat. He only made 3 little movies plus One Hollywood film, a very short attempt at films but we're lucky he at least made them just before he died to show us his insights on his life of hard combat. Sports Illustrated has ranked Bruce Lee in "the Top 50 Greatest Athletes of All Time", as he was able to raise unbelievable weights that pro weight lifters could not. Thanks for showing your wife "Way of the Dragon"! I only wished you didn't use the cheesy soundtrack version, the original real soundtrack with Bruce Lee's real voice is much better. Hope to see you guys react to some Bruce Lee documentaries or perhaps Ip Man the movie!

At that time in 1972 with back to back hit films, BL was the undisputed king of Kung Fu. But as an actor/filmmaker, his 3rd iconic film was his 'baby'. A film that would take all of what he learned from filmmaking into the movie that he had the 'freedom' to make. The only completed of his career to literally do it all as screenwriter, producer, director and choreographer. We loved seeing him dish out total vengeance on his enemies in previous films (which he does here). It's not totally 'you killed my teacher and I'll kill you' vibes. But it's more of Bruce portraying a normal person who is funny, somewhat unaware/aware of his surroundings and happens to be a bada** when friends/enemies least expect it. Shooting 90% of this in Rome, Italy cost some dough and unheard of to shoot a film outside of HK-based film production in Asia. Chuck Norris in his own right was phenomenal as an accomplished master and middleweight karate champion of the mid-1960s. His screen debut and first of 2 films as an villain was certainly worth rooting for. As longtime friends with Bruce, making history with the greatest martial arts' fight of all time is every reason to watch this movie. WofTD is both grounded and charismatic. As much of an masterpiece as Enter The Dragon. Winner of only one award:Best Film Editing-Golden Horse Awards (1972). Check these records right here: 1. The highest grossing film in HK at the time. 2. His 3rd film to achieve the 'highest-grossing film in HK' record. Previously held by his 2nd film, 'Fist of Fury' aka The Chinese Connection.

Less of Chuck Norris Fact and more of a Chuck Norris Story. While in Texas during the filming of Walker, Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris was in San Antonio taking in the sights one night. Three to four men armed with knives approached Chuck and told him to hand over his wallet. Fast forward an unspecified amount of time and a police car pulls up and finds Chuck Norris leaning against the wall with the three to four men sitting on the ground in front of him, each sporting at least one broken arm. Once the officer composed himself from laughing, he asked the men, "did you not know who this is?" "We knew he was that tv star, so we thought he had a lot of cash on hand." "Did you watch the show?" asks the cop. "Yeah, we just thought all that martial arts stuff was fake and he was acting."

25:56 That shot of Quen (Chin Ti) was actually an insert shot that was not shot at the graveyard depicted in this scene. Although Bruce Lee and Nora Miao were genuinely able to be filmed at that graveyard, a double was used for Chin during that scene, save for that shot (and the one moments later in which he is seen with Nora Miao), which is why none of the gravestones are visible at those points.

I don't know if you knew it but after bruce lee pass away there's was a bunch of " bruce lee's fake movies" that scammed everyone at that time who did watching it thinking that he truly acting on it however it was one that really fit bruce lee which is "enter the fat dragon" with sammo houng as protagonist but also it's underrated hilarious that worth to watch though.

To survive a blow from Norris or Lee is a badge of honor not to be challenged without a blackbelt or a stand off weapon.

Not for nothing but if I was in that gang then after seeing Bruce pop my teammates upside the head with them nunchucks then I'm quitting the gang. Ain't enough pay in the world to risk permanent pop-knot/brain damage.

in reality nunchucks are not a great weapon, but they are cool. They are actually rice flails which were used by peasants to fight oppressors, but while they are better than nothing, they are not great weapons. They ARE good for intimidation though.

Worked in an academic bookstore here in NZ for 20 years, starting in the early 90s. Had to do about 2 hours of customer service a day for many years. You could always rely on the occassional customer coming in looking for the Tao of Jeet Kune Do by Bruce Lee. They were always delighted to find we had it in stock. Still in print to this day. It was one of the titles that you just had to keep in stock. Bruce Lee will always be the GOAT. The sheer speed...

for its budget and time this film is legendary. You had to be there but there were no real martial art films with story lines back then. Also Golden Harvest / Raymond Chow really managed the filming and Bruce managed the fight choreography . It was so awesome to see this in theater as a 7 year old with your dad. Great memories
