Laziness and sleep
-Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty;
Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread. (20:13)
- Proverbs 19:15 Laziness casts one into a deep sleep,
And an idle person will suffer hunger.
- Proverbs 20:4 The lazy man will not plow because of winter;
He will beg during harvest and have nothing.
Diligence
- Proverbs 10:4 He who has a slack hand becomes poor,
But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
- Proverbs 13:4 The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing;
But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.
The reality:
- Look to the ant. Proverbs 30:25 says "The ants are a people not strong,
Yet they prepare their food in the summer;"
- Proverbs 14:23 In all labor there is profit..."

3 ways to riches (Not in order)
1. Dishonesty
- Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished..."
- Proverbs 24:12 "...will He not render to each man according to his deeds?"
- Proverbs 19:22 "...And a poor man is better than a liar.
2. Oppression
- Proverbs 14:31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker,
But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
- Proverbs 22:16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his riches,
And he who gives to the rich, will surely come to poverty
- Proverbs 25:21-22 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat;
And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink;
For so you will heap coals of fire on his head,
And the Lord will reward you.
3. Gluttony
- Proverbs 23:22 "...the glutton will come to poverty..."
- Myron Golden said about gluttony, "we eat stuff that robs us of our energy to go create solutions for other people that could provide wealth for us and our families"
4. Drunkenness (wine, pleasure, and oil - luxury - )
- Proverbs 23:21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty,
And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.
5. Pleasure
- Proverbs 21:17 He who loves pleasure will be a poor man..."
6. (Don't be) Hasty:
- Proverbs 21:5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty,
But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.
- Proverbs 28:22 A man with an evil eye hastens after riches,
And does not consider that poverty will come upon him.
7. Debt:
- Proverbs 22:7 The rich rules over the poor,
And the borrower is servant to the lender.
- Proverbs 22:26-27 Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge,
One of those who is surety for debts;
If you have nothing with which to pay,
Why should he take away your bed from under you?
3 ways to riches
Listen to Correction:
- Proverbs 13:18 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction,
But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.
- Proverbs 29:1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck,
Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
Getting Knowledge:
- By knowledge the rooms are filled
With all precious and pleasant riches. (24:4
Giving:
- He who gives to the poor will not lack,
But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. (28:27
- There is one who scatters, yet increases more;
And there is one who withholds more than is right,
But it leads to poverty. (11:24
- As seen in these verses, giving puts you on a path that leads to riches
Do it for yourself
- Proverbs 9:12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself..."
- Proverbs 19:8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
He who keeps understanding will find good.
- Proverbs 16:26 The person who labors, labors for himself,
For his hungry mouth drives him on.
- As Les Brown famously says, "You have to be hungry" and it is true.
