So glad to be getting back to just standard Wheel of time content! Give us the real stuff from the books! I enjoy the TV show, but the books will always be my first love
Excellent new series. One criticism I have is about the music. Not sure if it didn't compliment the footage or it was just too loud, but I felt it was distracting from the voiceover, IMO. Mostly speaking about the first two tracks - the guitar and piano ones. Just didn't feel like the light and peaceful vibes matched what you were talking about - the war of power, the longing, etc. Second half with the darker drone tones fit the mood better, in my opinion at least. Anyways, cheers to more videos!
I LOVE videos like this. It's a nice reminder of how cool the history and world building are in the WoT. I have forgotten a lot about what I read so it's cool to hear again. Great stuff to watch while waiting for WoT Season 2!
So here is something kinda fun that I noticed and it be interesting to see what people think about it: The ruins shown in Leavetaking after the camera pans up from Leandrin seems to be the same city shown in the cold open of Episode 8. It could be a slightly different viewpoint but the coliseum in the middle of both shots is pretty good evidence.
The ways seem to function similar to skimming. When Rand fist skimmed to ran through on steps, chasing after asmodian. If you could make those steps permanent, and have an entrance and exit, it would be like the ways.
It’s been a while since I watched any videos as I didn’t want anything spoiled until I watched the series a couple of times first. I’m not sure when you upped your game with adding music, transition screens, changed your background, got better lighting, camera and I’m pretty sure a mic as well… but I just wanted to say you have totally blown me away in the few videos I’ve seen so far and I’m super excited to go backwards and watch all the ones I missed. You’re my favorite WOT RU-vidr and I wanted to say thank you so much for all the knowledge and awesome videos!
Here we have this massive lore behind the waygates and how you use them and the history, instead the tv show brushed all of that out for something generic, so sad.
Either they can't afford horses .Or they don't know how to really ride them . Because they were supposed to be riding the horses Thru the waygate and they were supposed to be riding the horses through the blight. And with the blight. They made I don't think a horse could get in there. Sorry if they ever get to a little kid has to ride a horse and a wagon has to go through there.
"We didn't spend an episode on the ways" We didn't even spend half an episode in the ways and the "black wind" looked more like a cloud of annoying flies. That spoke truth instead of disturbing lies.
Fantastic video. Very clear and coherent breakdown. Nice mixture and usage of fan art, the graphic novels and the show. I love the lore of the series. In particular, I liked how explaining the way necessitated introducing the bore and the war of power. Hopefully, show watchers can watch this and have a better understanding of what they are seeing depicted. You didn't harp on the differences or what was changed. You only used elements from the show because the book lore was your focus. Look forward to more of this.
awesome video i forgot so much about the ways is was interesting to relearn the back story. this could 100% be just me but the intro and outro music is off for me. looking forward to more wheel of time explained.
Fantastic vid! I’m gonna share this around a little with some “show only” WoTchers. I was waiting for when you would comparison, but it didn’t really seem like it would fit in this vid. I haven’t thought through but I was hoping for you to talk about a few of the differences and similarities between book/show ways. I guess there is enough there that it could be it’s own video. Regardless, keep em comin nebs! Excited for the return to lore vids. Peace, -TheRabbitReborn
I literally just finished the ways part of book 1.. I'm almost finished with 1 St book..I'm still not sure I'll be watching new TV version anytime soon. I'm really enjoying the books.. even if I'm still only in 1st one. I can't imagine the TV show being able to be as scary as my mind's Eye Invisioned it from book.
I like concept of videos explaining the lore of the TV (as opposed to how it is in the books). I look forward to watching more of these types of videos. As the Stedding prevents channeling, do you think it also prevents electricity and batteries from working? If so, Ogier women may have more difficulties when the men are too interested in books or trees. They may need to journey to the pleasure Palace in Tar Valon.
Awesome video! My curiosity from the show is how Moiraine seemed convinced that there was a Waygate at the Eye of the World. Then they had to detour to Fal Dara when the Black Wind showed up in Ep.7 . Whereas in the book, the plan was to go to Fal Dara and then walk to the Eye of the World. Did she mean they were going to the Waygate at Malkier, since it seems to be so close to the Eye in Ep. 8? Or will they explain in later seasons that the Eye was an important location at the end of the Age of Legends, so it would have it's own Waygate? We'll see, I guess.
The Ways were created by men with the male half of the Source. Then corrupted by the Taint on the male half. In the show, the voice of Machin Shin was predominantly female. Is that because they portray the Source as being non-binary? It seemed off putting. It should have been solely male.
I love these discrete jokes on the little board in the background, lol. On a more serious note - you used a map not unsimilar to the current map of our world to picture the world of Age of Legends. Is this a map by Jordan or Sanderson? I've read the books but I don't recall any such map. I always wondered why people would presume the main plot of WoT is set in our future and that map certainly suggest so. (Apparently the person who drew this map was aware of the climate change and the rising see levels, interesting.)
Lol I made the map. It’s implied in the books that it is our world and all but confirmed by RJ in interviews. There are a number of Easter eggs to our world in the books like Mercedes’ symbols, nations, world events, etc
I think that the Ascended Plane/Shattered Realm from Destiny 2 is inspired by the Ways. They look extremely similar, basically floating islands suspended over a bottomless void.
Great video! Another topic: if there has been any discussions about Padan Fain "killing" Loial with Mats Shadar Logoth Dagger I must have missed them. Has this been addressed?
Agree with the book comment, but I'm sure it will be explained away in a Tolkeinesque "Shadar Logoth was a weakness/failing of humans and Ogier are not humans so to them it's just a normal dagger." Shadowspawn were made from human bloodstock so dagger still messes them up.
@@NaeBlis When I read the series for the first time, that thought came to mind because of the Seals. Despite the Seals being made of Heartstone because the metaphysical aspect of the Seals was weakening itself, the physical representation, the Heartstone Seals, also weakened. But that was because of the Dark One was trying to get out. As for the Ways, its clear a lot of Saiden had to be made to make the Ways (wonder if women also helped), so I think part of the Taint was put in the Ways. And over time the Taint became manifest and slowly wore down the ways. If the Dark One could make Heartstone able to be broken, the Ways and their Gates can also be with the Taint.
Ever think of becoming a writer for a multi billion dollar corporation that seems like it needs some for a series its putting a lot of money into but it seems writers are something it’s going cheap on?
Well, according to Loyal from the books he can run very fast and he once even outrun a horse. Ogier from the books must be a different species I assume...
Spoilers...... I wonder with the cleansing of saidar, will the ways regenerate? If the black wind is a physical manifestation of the taint should it disappear also?
Sneaky Nae'Blis. For a map of the age of Legends, you used a map of Earth similar to how it exists now. Also, why did you show a picture of the Chosen when you were explaining that during the age of Legends, men and women used Saidin and Saidar, respectively? The Chosen would not be the image I would have chosen when talking about the Age of Legends before the drilling of the Bore.
I can see why the show didn't design the waygate the way you showed/described it. Much too complicated - all those intricate designs, too busy for the eyes. Then you have to include a leaf key too? What the heck is an Avendesora again? No, no, much simpler to have two columns to walk through.
The leaf access key can be seen in Padan Fain's hand as he exits a waygate as an episode still in the bonus content of episode 7. I guess they didn't reveal it in the show yet to keep it a mystery into season 2 how he was able to follow the main characters to Fal Dara.
Don't know how you can explain the ways or anything else for that matter since the show breaks the lore and you have no idea what else they are breaking
@@maywecomein yes. He mentioned the show multiple times. His video comes across as explains to show watchers who hadn't read the books as explains the ways using books lore. And my point is how can you when the show has changed the lore and you ha e no idea how it's going to continue to change. Now leave me alone.
