Why some of these markets are getting certain games, I've honestly got no clue
The week 18 TV maps have been released, and while there aren't a ton of surprises, there are two games, with one in Baltimore and one in Green Bay, that make no sense in terms of why the networks have chosen that particular game to televise. This is a breakdown of what I would do if I was in charge of assigning the games

Flacco played for the Ravens and Delaware so that might be part of the reason for Browns-Bengals being shown in Baltimore and southern Delaware Edit: this might be adjusted due to the Browns sitting Joe for the game as they’re locked into the 5 seed.

Because Packers/Bears is on CBS, it sounds like the Wisconsin Fox stations (one of them owned by the network) basically scheduled DALxWAS out of spite more than anything since they didn't get it, so they're refusing to schedule the SEAxARI game instead. Hopefully they get feedback and switch.

My theory on the Green Bay decision: In 2024, a lot of the most engaged fans who would pay attention to multiple games would use Redzone, stream the other game online, or use Sunday Ticket. So the linear TV network might’ve been better off completely counter-programming the Packers game with the most marketable game to the “watch my favorite team, grab a snack/drink during the commercial break” crowd - and there’s Cowboys fans everywhere

The 1 thing I always took for granted when I lived in NJ was having 2 affiliates of each network. Didn't like the CBS game on channel 2, flip over to channel 3 for a different one. Didn't like the Fox game on channel 29, flip over to Channel 5 for different one

@@mbdg6810 yup. Live in Arizona now. Stuck with whatever game our Fox or CBS affiliate puts on. I think we were the only area that didn't get Eagles/Bills

@@alexe1707I used to have Directv from 2011-2017 in Nashville, Arkansas. I created a fake location in Prescott, Arkansas (which is 30 minutes away, but halfway between the Little Rock, Arkansas local channels and Shreveport, Louisiana local channels), but because I used that fake location, I got the option to have both. If I was lucky, both FOX’s and CBS’s would show 2 different games in the 12 o’clock window and 2 in the 3 o’clock window. So I pretty much didn’t need Sunday Ticket (and the Little Rock local channels showed Cowboys games, my favorite team, so it was a win win).

I agree with you 100% on Green Bay getting the Cowboys/Commanders game. I care more about the Seahawks/Cardinals game and what it means for the Packers in the off chance that the Packers somehow don't beat the Bears.

Yeah and the Packers will likely be going to the Cowboys if the Cowboys win and win the NFC East. Unless their logic is that they just want Packers fans to see how good the Cowboys bench is ahead of their game which makes absolutely no sense.

Worth mentioning that 506 now shows Baltimore will air the Titans/Jaguars as they changed it yesterday, but Salisbury, Maryland and it’s media market will still show the Bengals/Browns game.

Your opening bumper music reminds me a little of the NET bumper music from the late ‘60s, shortly before it became PBS. Which makes sense, since I always feel smarter after watching your videos. Especially the ones where apparently I’m smarter than an NFL head coach.

As a Lions fan, it makes a lot of sense for Michigan to have Chi @ GB for CBS and LAR @ SF on Fox, considering the fact that Det will likely face either LAR or GB. But I agree that other regions get Sea @ Ari or even LAR @ SF.

WNBC-TV (channel 4) and WCBS-TV (channel 2) are the two legendary TV stations in New York City did not carried any of the NFL games except for the Giants and the Jets games, not the Bengals, Bears and Packers.

Southern Delaware resident here. I have no idea why we're getting Bungles vs. Clowns either. At least T-Mac (the Phillies announcer) is calling it.

The best way to watch week 18 is Red Zone. Especially if your team is 1) not in playoff contention, 2) in the playoffs but in a meaningless game (ex: Ravens, 49ers, Browns) or 3) your team is on Saturday or SNF edited: typo

Chiefs/Chargers on CBS in Las Vegas and Colorado make no sense. There’s no playoff implications. Also Rams/49ers in an interesting choice for Michigan, but I guess because the Rams could be the Lions opponent in the wild card.

According to the map in the DC area, we're getting Atlanta vs. New Orleans on CBS, although I would've preferred Jacksonville vs. Tennessee. However, there is that race towards the bottom (sort of). Washington, New England, Arizona (each at 4-12-0), and the NY Giants (at 5-11-0) are in contention for the No. 2 overall draft pick. In the case of identical W-L-T percentages, the first tiebreaker is (a weaker) strength-of-schedule, with Washington have a slight edge over New England in that area, as well as a slight edge over the Giants if they were to have identical records in the end. Arizona's strength-of-schedule is nowhere near as weak. Anyway, the Flacons-Saints matchup is one game of greater significance for Washington towards that 2nd overall pick, as they had Atlanta on the schedule (while NYG and NE did not) and did not have New Orleans on the schedule (while NYG and NE did). Commander fans hoping for that No. 2 pick will want to root for New Orleans and against Atlanta.

@@alexe1707 Actually, no. Arizona's strength-of-schedule is (and will remain) too strong compared to that of either New England or Washington. The only way Arizona can get the No. 2 overall pick is to finish with a worse record than both Washington and New England, as Arizona will lose the tiebreaker with either New England or Washington.

About the first game, its all about AFC North Über-alles. As to the Fox selections at 4:25 in Wisconsin, its Cowboy Über-alles. Unfortunately, we're getting that game in the Twin Cities instead of Seahawks-Cardinals.

What pisses me off is that now Raiders games in the Northern California area are being blacked out as the league is putting them on the same network and at the same time when the Niners play. This has happened twice now when we played the Giants and Vikings, and about to happen on Sunday against the Broncos. They never used to do this until the start of this season. The league should know there are still lots of raider fans all over California so they should be able to be on another network and not have anymore conflicting schedules between them and the Niners. Yes we know the Niners are better but still a raider fan for life whether we suck or not.

Baltimore CBS Early: The Ravens don't play next week, so _all 3_ games are effectively Filler. Green Bay FOX Late: Since Green Bay's hosting, I'm surprised that FOX is allowed to air a game in this window _at all_ in that market. I mean, I'm currently in Tampa, and I've seen a Primary Home Blackout. But here's the _real_ travesty to the schedule: Since the Colts and Texans is the Saturday Night game, there's no "Both Game" for Kevin Harlan to also call!

Home teams can't enforce blackouts of concurrent games in either Week 1 or Week 18 given that both FOX and CBS have doubleheaders in those weekends. FOX 11 has to air something to its Green Bay/Appleton audience, but it has the wrong game given the Packers' playoff scenarios.

The station in Green Bay that isn't showing the Packer's game doesn't care about implications to the Packers. All Packers fans are going to be watching the other game anyway. It makes total sense that they would pick the game that will have the most appeal to the few non-Packers fans in the area.

Maps are usually final come Saturday afternoon, most likely around 1:00 PM, 24 hours before those games start. By the time everyone goes to bed Friday night, everyone should have a good idea what game they are getting on Sunday, barring any Saturday morning changes.

I live in Savannah and I have no idea why the Jags keep getting shown when a majority of the market are Falcons fans. This has happened at least 4 times this year when the Falcons and Jags are on the same network

My CBS is JAGUARS TITANS! The closest game to where I live on Sunday distance wise on CBS is ATL NO. That game should be broadcasted throughout the south, especially here in TX

Are you close to Houston? Because if the Texans win on Saturday then the Jaguars game means a lot on Sunday. Texans win and Jaguars loss gives Texans the division.

I don't get the game choices for WJZ-TV in Baltimore and Wisconsin's FOX stations (incl. O&O WITI FOX 6 in Milwaukee, the Packers' other primary market), either. CBS and FOX made some crazy preliminary distribution decisions. I also noticed that FOX 29 (WTXF) and CBS Philadelphia (KYW-TV) are airing both NFC South games. I guess that's in the event that the Eagles don't win the NFC East.

My Little Rock, Arkansas local channels, makes 0 sense. In the 12 o’clock window, they are showing Minnesota at Detroit, instead of Tampa Bay at Carolina. My local CBS is showing Jacksonville at Tennessee, not a complaint mind you, just commenting on that game, it’s a game I’d be more interested in, than Saints/Falcons. But the 3:25 window is really confusing. My Little Rock, Arkansas local channels shows Cowboys games every week, it’s basically a Cowboys market. So obviously their showing the Cowboys at Redskins on FOX, but I don’t understand why their showing Chicago at Green Bay on the CBS channel, instead of Philadelphia at New York. Pretty odd scheduling in my market. I would guarantee that most Cowboys fans would rather see the Eagles game rather than the Packers game.

What didn't make any sense to me in week 12 of this season was that they showed the Raiders and Chiefs game on CBS where I live in which is Colorado instead of the Eagles and Bills game the game between the Eagles and Bills obviously had Jim Nantz and Tony Romo as their announcing crew and the game was more entertaining than the Chiefs and Raiders game

Technically, Baltimore is a secondary market for Washington. Down here in DC, we've always received Ravens games except when the Ravens and Commanders were on the same network at the same time.

Fox's top game and the team right down the road ... tough to pass on the Commanders in Maryland. Denver-Vegas is meaningless and rightly being limited to only the areas that should get it.

I agree because it has no bearing whatsoever on the Bills. Neither do the other two games on the early Fox slate either. The other two in the early Fox slot do have some meaning. Minnesota at Detroit (yes Vikings still have a very slim shot at making the playoffs, and still hope for Detroit to win the number 2 seed, slim but still possible) of course Tampa Bay at Carolina (TB wins NFC South if they win). Even then I think what ever game Fox carries will have lower ratings than the early CBS game which I agree with being put in Buffalo for the Jaguars-Titans which has a lot of meaning for the Bills.

I at least get that since you do have some fans of those teams in the area, plus the other FOX games don’t impact the Bills and their situation
