Eh, just get the Tributes or lower-end ones and give them some love. My Tribute V is one of the best playing and most resonant guitars I've ever owned.
$10,000 for a new Gibson Les Paul just seems obscene to me. Even if you assume a 50% mark up, does it really really cost Gibson $5,000 in parts and labor to produce one guitar? I find that hard to believe. I feel like Jeff Beck would have found a guitar like this that almost none of his fans could afford to buy to be a super cringe cash grab.
10k for a guitar ... yeah!!!! Another unicorn guitar nobody cares about and can afford. This makes me so sad ... the company making my favorite guitar, the SG, is nothing but a shadow of itself ...
Jeff Beck was a Fender player, anyways. You can get a custom shop Jeff Beck Signature Strat, the guitar he played for decades before his death, for less than half the price of the Les Paul, and the non-custom signature for a quarter of the price. Rest in peace, Jeff.
Jeff Beck played whatever he wanted. He was a Tele guy, then a Les Paul guy and went to Strats exclusively in the 80's but to say, "He was a Fender player" and leave it at that, is asinine. If you don't want the guitar, don't buy it. Nobody is compelling you and certainly Gibson marketing an expensive guitar doesn't affect your life in the least.
I'd say "going to strats exclusively" for 40 of your 78 years (probably 40/60 of your professional career) is pretty much a definition of "a Fender player". Yes, he played other stuff decades ago, but it's scraping the barrel to issue a JB signature LP. Greenie has out of phase, Frehly/Frampton have triple pups - at least they somehow differ from regular production. There's nothing particularly distinctive or unique about this reissue compared to regular production. It whiffs of memorabilia cash grab. Yes, you're right, it's our personal choice whether to buy it, just as its also our personal choice to disdain the motives behind it. Those views don't affect your life in the least either.
Gibson sued DiMarzio recently to cancel the "double cream" patent because the look has become generic in those 45+ years. While the case is in a sort of limbo, Gibson is going ahead and marketing double "classic white" pickups and argues that the color is not exactly the same. In fact, the DiMarzio "double cream" is darker than a typical aged white butyrate bobbin from the late 50's. Gibson argued that the color is not the same and DiMarzio has no legal rights to sue manufacturers for "similar" but the the SAME color double-white bobbins. So Gibson is basically saying "Come at me bro" and time will tell if DiMarzio has the horses and $$$ to counter.
I bought the HALO Core as it launched on the RKFX website. It launched at 0900, my shipping ticket was timed at 0906. The 300 units did sell out in 4 hours.
Any self-respecting musician vs. Investment banker, dentist, or plastic surgeon will opt for an Eastman single-cut, solid body over another "signature" Gibson Les Paul (yawn)...
Watching this one right after getting the Gibson newsletter announcing a new Slash signature (resembling his early days clone) for around 3K, more "Gibsony" pricing.
Four years back, I wanted a "Les Paul" for my 60th birthday. After a lot of research & shopping, I got an Eastman SB-59 for $1000.00 less than a real Gibson Les Paul cost (at that time), and I've never regretted it. 1 piece mahogany body, maple top, ebony fretboard, all hand made. Fit & finish is very, very good. It's one awesome guitar, especially for around $1400.00! Of course, the price has escalated in the four years since, and they're close to $2400.00 now, but I got mine early and my heirs will decide its fate after I'm gone. I have no use for Gibson.
Its just a Gibson.. with a nice set of pickups... no better than if you put nice pickups on a normal Gibson yourself... TEHNN GRRAaaannd... Yeah Right!
Gibson....Fender YAWN! Over priced and not an ounce of true innovation anywhere with their Guitars. I wouldn't buy one tbh even if I could afford to. Love Vintage Guitars and G&L Guitars at least they offer value for money and some innovation especially the Vintage Revo Series. I especially like the new Revo electric acoustic guitar they have brought out. Looks awesome and sounds amazing and the lower side of £400..ticks all the right boxes for me. I think Vintage will one day be a major player in the guitar world with Gibson or Fender especially in the UK. Luv them.👍
As a former employee of the G, would it shock you if I said the could sell EVERY guitar they make, all the USA stuff and all the custom shop stuff without changing a thing, for $1,000.00 US and still make millions of dollars a month. Fact y'all. It's crazy I know, but it's true. Granted it would only net them 2 million a month globally rather than 7-10 million but still..
oh gawd Andy 1:15 let's see. An overpriced POS Gibson who's headstock angle means it will easily snap in shipping or if you look at it the wrongs way ? Want a decent single cut ? Buy a Solar GC1.6 and be done with it, if budget limited ? then a 2.6. Me ? Go my prostate cancer biopsy coming up on July 9th, so everything is on hold. I'll be fine - i beat CV19, i'll beat this too. cheers from NZ.
I think Gibson needs to make the move of making standard high quality guitars in the east(Indonesia, Korea etc.) That way people can get the basic standards for around $1,500 that are equipped with all the higher end components. Manufacturing in the US cannot compete with Asia
Basically Jeff Beck played a stock 50’s Les Paul, so Gibson made a stock Les Paul and called it the “Jeff Beck signature edition” and charges 10x what Beck paid for his.
Opinion, everyone’s got one. Line 6 should add a ‘create your pedal’ feature to the Helix floor and we’ll swap the presets. I’ve bought a lot of gear over many decades but current prices $3-400 for a single use pedals are unrealistic for real giggers. It’s a bedroom collectors marketing grift and just results in more hyper-consumption and way less wild musical creativity.
Gibson has sued Dimarzio over double cream trademark and PAF name use, to lift the trademarks. Now, it releases a guitar with double cream pickups? Seems like they're checking how far Dimarzio can go? Larry Dimarzio in an old interview said that a patent (or a trademark) doesn't mean a thing if you don't have a lawyer and the will to defend it. We'll see...
Andy, I like your channel a lot. And watch regularly, .but you have 126k subs...you could probably buy any guitar that's $10k or more or maybe Lee could hook you up with a nice discount.
A Les Paul guitar back in 1959 cost about 450 dollars with case , which would be about 4600 dollars in today,s money. Just put a name player on a re issue guitar and charge double that ,or even more in some cases. Especially if they are sporting a pair of super distortion hum buckers . Fools and their money as the saying goes.
Gibson making an expensive signature guitar isn't about making or selling that guitar. It's about getting free advertising because people and RU-vidrs will talk about it. That means "Gibson" stays in people's minds when they think about guitars.
If you play guitar and are not a collector, there's a grand total of no reason to grab a Gibson. There's absolutely nothing Gibson offers that other companies won't offer equal or better for equal or less money. I don't play history, I play guitar and work too fucking hard for my money for a parasite company so easily grab it. I hope Gibson keeps offering just guitars for these ridicilous prices so soon enough they will be out of the market. I mean, 10k and indian rosewood. If you're selling shit for this price just because it's a Shitson, at least use the correct stuff. It's still a scam, but at least try to fool people because it's a blessed piece of rosewood licked by the golden anteater and cut down by flying nuns in a jungle full of snakes and caimans.
Hedge funds and corporations that use similar practices, are destroying America's economy and reputation, if you don't start talking about republican politicians, but those two types go hand in hand. Trump recently advertised he would give executive order requests to any company that donates $1B to his campaign. If he gets elected again I am seriously thinking about moving to another country. I am a disabled war veteran who fought to "protect and spread democracy", while "fighting terrorism". I will never forgive myself for being such a fool.
Gibson took Dimarzio to court about the patten on the double cream pick ups because Gibson was making them in the 50s it good news for pick up makers ! I guess they won the lawsuit
The Halo already sold out before anyone really knew about it. It was a limited run, so it’s already long gone. Damn shame, as it seems like a cool pedal.
Seems to me that Gibson made dbl creams first. Since they had lots of black bobbins and some white, all hidden at first by covers, it makes sense that most were black, some were zebra, and a few were white-white. Just completely random mixes, 20 years before Dee-Mar-Zee-oh (only zz sounds ts, like pizza).
If anything is plugged into the mains power it's extremely hard to isolate it from 60 cycle hum. The best way is to make sure your device has isolated inputs but, even then, hum can occur. There are a lot of variables involved.
I read an article that stated that Gibson have filed to cancel the "double cream" and "PAF" trademarks. If they can't have it they want to make sure noone else can.
I am really hoping this breaks the barrier with double cream pickups in the us. It’s not a problem for British and Asian pickups but sometimes it’s hard to get them over here in the us.
JEFF BECK Les Paul, when he was known as a STRAT man. His estate clearly signed off on that for money. Also, PRS has been selling a TREMONTI model, who is He again? An average guitar player on a 90’s washed up band that plays County fairs?? Strange.
They put a guitar up for sale. It's not a "cash grab." Criticizing things for sale as a "cash grab" is just childish. People sell things. They're not forcing you to buy it or stealing from you. You put up videos and RU-vid sends you money for doing so. Is this video a "cash grab," too? Or when it's you is it just "making a living like everyone has to?" I suspect it's the latter. This week's video is brought to you by pedaltrain, which apparently is like Sesame Street being brought to you by the letter A and the number 5, or something. 🙄
Once they sold all those 10,000 dollar Adam Jones LP Customs on pre order they got no shame. Can’t believe they haven’t had a go at making an Iron Cross with or without Papa Het , I’d imagine they could sell a few of those for 20k probably. I’m sorry 10k for a guitar I’d be out if I could afford it. You could get a very nice Japanese Les Paul and a decent used car for 10k and maybe have enough change left over to put half a tank of gas in your “new” used car.
Great seeing Electronic Audio Experiments on here. They make some of the best dirt pedals around. This is something really different for them. I'm a big fan of the lastgasp misty cave so this has me intrigued. Top stuff as always.
if I was heading up a brand like keeley, I would do a limited run of a pedal specifically to target scalpers , once it had all sold out and they were all on reverb, I would then release the rest of the stock for £50 less than the original run. I absolutely hate scalpers
I imagine the one non-isolated output is connected to the mains ground, while the others are not. I can't think of why that would be desirable, but I can believe there's a reason.
You can't really defend the price tag of the Jeff Beck LP, but it makes some sense. A Custom Shop R9 is about $6800, and a M2M R9 with a one-piece body is about $9700. When you factor in the artist/estate tax and the fact that there are only 130 of them, it almost looks like a steal lol.
I’m really tired of Gibson releasing these “wall hangers”. It’s starting to be a joke. When are they going to realize it doesn’t bring them any new customers? 👴🏻- Eh? Can’t hear you. Too busy in the Lab knocking the crap out of this new R9.
Who cares? If you don't like it don't buy. Nobody is forcing to buy one or even care about them. There are a bazillion guitars and the used market is full of relatively affordable Les Pauls.
KKR aren't interested in new customers, they're interested in squeezing cash out of the whales they have now. By the time those boomers are done buying Murphy LPs, KKR will be selling Gibson for parts anyway. Fender's model is to make younger musicians into customers for life; Gibson's isn't.
