This is the biggest week in the fantasy community this year! So many people are excited to read your work Philip, and rightly so! We have loved seeing everyone’s reactions so far and we’re certain you’re loving it even more. So well deserved. Can’t wait to interview you next week. Truth and courage! Ed and Will
I’m so looking forward to chatting with the two of you! It’s an exciting time. The Way of Edan is already the number one new release in military fantasy on Amazon here in the United States!
Thanks so much, Christian! I deeply appreciate the support, and I hope we’ll have the chance to chat someday. Perhaps we could even include that Nutts fellow! 😁
My book just arrived and I'll be starting it this weekend! I could not be more excited! Philip you sir deserve all the success that is heading your way! A scholar, writer and gentleman! Thank you for making RU-vid cool Professor!
I received my copy of The Way of Edan on my doorstep from Amazon today, on Monday. What a pleasant surprise … one day ahead of publication date! (I live in Minnesota.) Dived right in, the prologue is amazing.
Very excited! I have pre ordered the paperback from Amazon UK. I have been told it will be with me on Wednesday. I have loved listening to the reviews this week and I am very much looking forward to diving into the world of Edan...I'm loving that there is promise of lots of cosy tavern vibes. My favourite. Congratulations, Philip!
I'm so excited for you, Philip! I do already have my ebook copy of The Way of Edan and started the prologue, can't wait to keep on reading! Your prose is such a delight to read ^^ Here's me wishing you all the success! Congratulations on this amazing step!
Congratulations! I’m greatly looking forward to reading your book. My preorder arrived on my Kindle this morning and it reminded me to pop over and leave a comment to say how excited I am for you and to wish you all the best! 💛
Congratulations, Philip, and welcome to published authorship! I preordered your book a little while back, and I'm looking forward to reading it once it shows up on my Kindle!
The fact that you feel so at peace with the whole launch is a great sign to me. You have clearly put in so much time, care and effort into this story and I am so happy for you that you can now share this labour of love with the world! The reviews have only gotten me more and more excited, I can't wait to dive in soon! Also really nice to see you having so much fun with your buddy reads! I am really looking forward to the chats on Jade City and Arm of the Sphinx! Happy reading Philip and enjoy all the buzz around the release next week 🤩
Thank you so much, Esmay! I do feel very good about the release at this point, which is much better than being extremely nervous. I'm excited for both Green Bone Saga and Books of Babel!
I've got Way of Edan on pre-order. Physical and ebook. Can't wait! My deepest congratulations Philip. I can only imagine how exciting this must all be for you.
DDF! 😂I love that! Last night, I purchased a beautiful Earthsea bind-up. Matt on Books kindly helped me find it. I'm not sure when I will be scheduling Earthsea into my reading plans, but I know it was a very influential work for you, and I always love to learn about what influences the authors I admire. I'm so excited for you and the release of The Way of Edan! 🎉
So lovely to see the joy and gratitude you're exuding. Fills my heart right up. Sets the perfect mood for cozying up by the hearth and reading an excellent fantasy story. Perfect too in that it's unusually cold and wintery here--hope there's an opportunity for tennis in your busy weekend schedule. I've already said it, but will keep reminding you to savor every moment.
This series has some of the videos I most look forward to each week, even when I'm not getting a mention (thank you for that!🥰). I always find new books to add to my TBR, and channels to check out. It does leave me wondering how manage to stuff everything into your schedule, that's highly impressive, in my opinion. I can't wait until your book's audiobook edition comes out! See you Wednesday!
I swear that you're the hardest working person on BookTube! So much going on! Congrats again on the book publication - I'm looking forward to it arriving at my door. Best of luck with the launch! Jade City is on the physical TBR for me and I hope to get to that one soon.
Awesome update, Philip!! Excited to get a copy of The Way of Edan! Im halfway through Jade City and loving it and almost done with Ship of Magic. Im having a fantastic reading year so far. Appreciate the update, lots of good stuff and congrats again!!
Congratulations on your first book launch! Can't wait to start reading it; I'll try not to rush what I'm presently reading in order to dive into Edan, but that's going to be tough. 😄
Hi, Philip! Just pre-ordered your novel in its Kindle format. Enjoy the prospect of being published and read! Regarding my own writing: I discovered on March 10 that my duology should be a trilogy, too... Quite the shock. After 'Nether Hemisphere' and 'Upper Hemisphere', the third novel will be called 'Globe' ('Wereldrond' in Dutch)... Part 2 will be published in late August. Good luck with everything!
We are so so happy for your Philip!!! Congratulations and I absolutely CANNOT wait to read The Way of Edan starting Tuesday with your HUGE release! To see your dream come to fruition fills me with joy! There is ZERO doubt that you will soon be enjoying bestselling tags and literary awards for the Edan Trilogy VERY SOON! Wishing you every success with your writing and can't wait to delve into the world you have created!!
Thank you, Liam! I am eager to hear your thoughts if you decide to share them because I know that, as someone who is familiar with OE, you will spot things that few other readers will.
Congratulations! I preordered your book yesterday and will be arriving on April, 11th to Madrid. I was going to say I can't wait... but I guess I'll have to 😂😂
Paperback ordered - have cleared next weekend to give it my full attention (just as well 6 nations finishes today!). enjoy the snowball gathering momentum, good sir - def love the jacket (the book's - although tweed's always good).
Can’t wait to see The Way of Edan reviews and content taking over booktube in the coming weeks! Wishing you all the success in the world, Philip! Pre-ordering today 😄
Congratulations Phillip!!! I have ordered the paperback and according to Amazon it should arrive 03/20. Also cannot wait for Allen’s narration. Hope you have a great day and happy release week!
I’m so excited to read your book Philip! I will have it on my kindle on day one. 😃 So happy you enjoyed Jade City. I hope the rest of the series is just as good for you.
That’s such a good explanation re Jade City (high-context culture). That’s probably why I struggled with that book as I’m usually rather straight forward and terrible at “reading between the lines”. I didn’t even realize that I should have done that 🤣 Just received an email that your book will be here on Monday 🥳 have an amazing launch day!!!
Based on the reviews from the ARC readers, it sounds like congratulations are in order for what is sure to be a happy and successful release day. I'm trying to push through a bunch of other reading this weekend so I'll have plenty of time for The Way of Edan in the coming week. Good advice for self-publishing and, speaking of which, I'm looking "forward" to getting an email from you any day now. You keep such a busy schedule! Appreciate you. Peace.
I’m starting the foreword soon, Jeremy! I’ll definitely have it before April 15, the deadline you gave me. Have the stories been coming in? I’m excited to read them! Cheers!
Well, I have ordered 'The Way of Edan' and it'll be my next read after I finish 'Hunger of the Gods' by John Gwynne. Congratulations Philip, I can't wait to read it!!
I am getting the physical copy of The Way of Edan in the mail tomorrow. I am ready to dive in and read it. I'm dropping my other book for this. It's my most anticipated book this year.
I'm currently reading House of Chains, and the 4 chapters I've read have been a blast, a very strong and enjoyable opening. Malazan has pretty much consumed my life in terms of what I read, but since the time has come for the debut of The Way of Edan, the adventures of Karsa Orlong will have to wait a little while and I am quite excited. See the thing is Philip, following the lead up to the release of this book, as well as the recent reviews, I've seen the book being compared to others with a old norse/english theme, Gwynne being mentioned and what not but I haven't actually read any of those. I also haven't been into reading novels very long either, perhaps a bit over a year or so, so really it's going to be a first time for me in reading a book with those kinds of influences/themes. The point I'm getting at is I'm glad it's going to be your book, because I've really enjoyed what you've done for book-tube, you and AP sparked the motivation to really delve into Malazan for me in the first place and even just discussions of narrative and fantasy, for which I am grateful. I did not ever see myself being this engrossed into novels, or discussions of writing, but damn it has been such an enjoyable ride thus far, and I'm sure it will continue to be moving forward. I think it was in the discussion with Mark Lawrence of how you said other youtubers have such high quality video editing and whatnot, and how you just talk, something like that lol. But you should really pat yourself on the back, you have been uploading consistent enjoyable content with a bunch of fun collabs.
What a wonderful comment! Thank you! This is the sort of feedback that motivates me to keep going, so I really appreciate you letting me know that you’ve found the videos and discussions helpful. I also am deeply grateful for your support of The Way of Edan. My best wishes to you for all your reading!
Congratulations Professor Chase! Looking very much forward to order your book next week, and can not wait for the future discussions! A couple of slow months reading-wise for me in quantity, but high on quality, digging into the Warlord Chronicle-Trilogy by Bernard Cornwell (I’m currently on book 2 “Enemy of God”), another series I hope you will get to soon, so much to discuss and I think you will love it! Cheers Professor!
Congratulations!! I have ordered both the ebook and the physical book so that I can annotate and take in fully the themes and language. I am so excited, all the reviews are so positive and thought provoking , and I can't wait! As a writer myself I am so excited to see a fellow writer succeed!
Congrats from Canada! I have a kindle copy preodered, Conveniently my bday is Wednesday so i have to look forward to that day other than my next covid shot. Lol. Love the cover art btw.
Congrats Philip! Can’t wait to dig in on Tuesday! I think it’s a fantastic decision to give the reviewers space and not involve yourself in the conversation - I know for me it would be incredibly difficult to discipline myself to do that, as I would live and die with every single review or comment 😂 It was such a joy discussing Liveship with you and the other panel members yesterday - very excited to get to our Tawny Man discussion, as I adore that series even more. I’m so behind on longform discussions - I need to catch up on several Dear Dr Fantasy episodes - must have been so cool to chat with one of your favorite authors. I’m 80% into my Fool’s Fate re-read, and truly savoring it. Hope you’re loving it.
Thank you, Scot! I am indeed loving Fool's Fate so far. Robin Hobb is one of the few author's I can read no matter what she's doing -- even descriptions of tea drinking have me immersed!
Greetings from ICFA! Looks like you and I have had very similar journeys through Earthsea. I first read the initial trilogy when I was 12, and the first book, especially, has had an enormous impact on me and I’ve read it more than any other book (except the Book of Mormon) and I constantly go back to it for wisdom. As a kid, I bounced off of Tehanu because I wasn’t yet asking the questions that book is dealing with. I finally got around to rereading the whole cycle when I was in grad school, since I took a class on Le Guin from Brian Attebery, the world’s foremost scholar of Le Guin. So I used that as an opportunity to read the whole cycle and loved it. I still need to read two of the short stories and I’m uneasy about actually doing it… Man, I can talk about Earthsea all day!
Thanks for the update, had already preordered the ebook and just snapped up the paperback! Trying to finish up Red Country in time to start on publication day.
I think it's commendable that you are trying to avoid putting your finger on the scale where possible, and just letting the book and reviews speak for themselves! Can't wait to read The Way of Edan, Philip!
Only found your channel recently but I love your videos and the way you explain things in general! Congrats and good luck with the book launch, got my copy already in kindle too! 🎉
Congrats on the book man!!! My paperback copy just came in and I’m about to start it now. Might have to read it on kindle tho , so I can keep that beautiful cover in gd shape lol…
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy I’m sure I will. I’m just a few minutes in and can already tell I like the writing style. Dr Fantasy won’t let me down!!!
Glad to know about the low context and high context culture concept, living in Japan is one of the things I had to adjust through the years but I did not know it had such a nomenclature. I just hope I am not too much high context cultured when I back to Europe for visiting 😅. Definitely Jade city is in my TBR along of course with the Way of Edan.
As a European living in Japan, you know all about high context/low context even without knowing the terminology. I hope you’ll enjoy Jade City and The Way of Edan!
Can't wait to get The Way of Edan! I haven't pre-ordered it because I have to use Amazon Germany, lol. I will see if my husband wants to order something and have him do it since I don't have an Amazon account. I'm so glad you're enjoying The Green Bone Saga so far. I am also looking forward to getting The Book that Wouldn't Burn as well. So many wonderful books to look forward to in the near future.
Thank you so much, Stacy! I'm hearing from folks in Germany that The Way of Edan should be arriving early next week, so it seems to be live there. I wonder why Amazon hasn't got any tentacles in Finland? All the best!
Congratulations Philip! The creation process is a long on to begin with - then the decision to self-pub is the start of a whole other journey which ends only with the beginning of the next phase, which I call The Indie Hustle (I didn’t make that phrase up myself, but have totally adopted it). Rest assured, the differences between KDP & ISpark is usually on apparent in very colorful works like graphic novels. And YES, there’s never enough lead time for print publishing, but you can probably get posters of your maps printed pretty quickly (hint hint) Lastly: rejoice that you’re not actually, packing and fulfilling books for each reader, that’s a whole other thing too.
PS: first in line for the audio version: Very much looking forward to having you and Allen join me at the drawing board at some point in the near(ish) future.
Much appreciated, Patrick! That's a fantastic idea about the map, and I will look into it. Also, Allen is going to be brilliant for the audiobook. Cheers!
Went ahead and ordered kindle version to get it soonest but will be ordering the paperback. I can’t wait, Phillip. Truly. Both because I believe firmly that you’ve written a good series, but also because your booktube friends have me hyped with their reviews haha
I don't think we use the word 'fortnight' enough these days. Lol. Unless they're talking about the video game. I'm looking forward to all the stuff you have coming up. Congrats on the publication of your book. I pre-ordered the Kindle and paperback versions.
I pre-ordered the e-book, but I am not sure when I will get to it. I was planning to read it on release day, then read Iron Gold and re-read Ship of Magic next month. Now, next month I'll be doing 5 books for a readathon and can't have any re-reads in there (not to mention Ship of Magic is a huge chonker so it would be a bad idea anyway when I'm trying to read 5 books in a month), so I've picked shorter books where I can to make my 5 books fit, and I'm thinking about just tryign to read as much of Ship of Magic as I can this month so it will be easier to catch up to the ROTE readalong in May, and so I may not get to your book til May for scheduling reasons.
Didn’t know the paperbacks were available to order, I’ve ordered mine and it says it’ll arrive Monday. Will start reading as soon as I’m done with Mad Ship!
Here is to a successful launch day next week!🎉 Enjoy your dream coming true, Philip! I found your Earthsea discussion very interesting. Makes me want to read more Le Guin which is always a good sign. And how strange -- I never read the last book either and out of the same reason. It wasn't out at the time I discovered Earthsea.
Yes, I'm curious about that fifth Earthsea book! Thank you so much for the kind wishes and the support, Angela -- I appreciate it all more than I can say!
Been reading nothing but short books this month so that I can jump on The Way of Edan once it drops. Might have to slip in Earthsea beforehand too because it's crazy short.
This week I read Lonesome dove Love Pamela memoir by Pamela Anderson Never ever getting back together by sophie Gonzales The silence of the girls by pat Barker
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear of your loss, Safina! My very best wishes to you as you and your loved ones mourn. It’s lovely to hear from you, and I hope you find some sense of peace.
You have so many interesting series going right now! Someday you’ll need a Dresden palate cleanser right? Whenever that day comes I’ll be ready to pick up Dead Beat along with you! Just pre-ordered the Way of Edam though I might wait to start it until I have Allen’s narration to do at the same time-I can’t wait!
Thanks so much, Ben! Yes, I will definitely need to return to Dresden Files as soon as I get some of these other buddy reads done. As soon as I start Dead Beat, I'll be in touch for our discussion!
Pretty good week, sir! I'm reading a Southern Gothic currently, called A Land More Kind than Home. I tried to find something under 400 pg, so that I can have finished by Tuesday, because there's this new release coming out on the 21st. It's called The Way of Elann? Or Emon? Something like that... doesn't matter, you've probably never heard of it. I'm looking forward to reading it though. You should check it out when you get a chance
