I'm half way through the audiobook of The Way of Edan ❤ Allen is an amazing narrator

Philip, I'm ~80% through The Way of Edan, and I am absolutely loving the rich prose, deep worldbuilding, and compelling story! Not to mention Allen's incredible narration. Just wanted to mention that hehe 😋

Last Kingdom! I've been reading a book a month of the Saxon series most of the year. Absolutely loving this series.

Philip I’m listening to Allen’s reading of Edan and it’s absolutely fantastic. I listen to a TON of audiobooks and Allen is as good, or better than most narrators I’ve heard. It’s such a treat! Also I can’t wait for the Broken Binding editions to go on sale!

Do you know of the best way to follow along with the SPFBO updates other than videos from you and other judges? Its really fun to hear the updates and some sort of central hub of info/updates woild be really cool I started Hunger of the Gods this morning and you were absolutely correct - Gwynne's prose is the best its ever been here! Very excited continue it, then get to Fury, and then watch your collab discussion Oh man, I absolutely cannot wait to hear your thoughts on the Dandelion Dynasty! Speaking of best of Fantasy, I'm reading To Green Angel Tower, the conclusion to Tad Williams' Memory Sorrow & Thorn trilogy.

I think it is safe to report that I have finished my own first book; as it is based upon people and characters created for a troupe I directed for a Renaissance fair for almost 20 years, it may be for a small audience of those people, but once I let them have a read through and get critiques from them, it should be easy enough to change up the names (such as ‘Sterling Highwayman’ and ‘Bark Timber’) to less whimsical ones, as they tale gets quite serious, and to slightly expand a few plot points, as well, for hopefully a wider audience. 10+ years, and it is finally ‘done’!🎉

re-read of Book of the New Sun next year!! beyond excited, I hope you go on to Long Sun and Short Sun, they're absolutely mind-bendingly incredible as a whole 12 book Solar Cycle

Hi Philip. My 'regular' reading schedule is on hold in order to evaluate books for possible sale or donation. My library is too large and sprawling. I've recently read books on The Crusades, Leonard Nimoy and British author John Fowles. I hope to resume my regular schedule in November, which may commence with A Clash of Kings. Happy reading.

I also want to read Memory Sorrow and Thorn next year. I’d love to read along with you and discuss it if that something you’d be up for.

Also, digging Rings of Power over here. I've been watching it with my son, and it has turned into a great gateway drug. Between seasons 1 and 2, we read Hobbit and LoTR together for bedtime stories. Now that season 2 is over, we just started Children of Hurin, which is some Tolkien material I have never experienced.

Allen really did do a good job. Listening to the audible sample now. I bust out laughing when Allen belted out his first character voice. Not a bad making fun of it laugh, it was just so good and came out of nowhere. Honestly, I was worried at first because the audio production values Allen uses in his content studio I felt wouldn't have favored an audiobook narration. He got the values right and his voice is a lot clearer and more accessible in this book. The sample was too short. As with a lot of genres, I probably wouldn't have the patience to read your book because I don't like a lot of fantasy, but Allen's narration...I'd seriously consider.

Looking forward to your Earthsea video. I think you and I are similarly impacted by that series. I just finished reading a recent scholarly book on Earthsea (I was asked to review it for a journal), and also just got my copy of the latest Library of America volume of her works, which contains her five non-series novels (Lathe of Heaven, Lavinia, et al). It’s a shame Le Guin scholarship probably isn’t the best content for a channel like yours. It’d be fun to get AP and me on to discuss Attebery’s scholarship of her works. (I really should look at getting a channel up and running so we can have a big discussion of her work. Once I’m better settled at the new job….)

I'd love to see you read the Cradle series. It is a really wild ride that is almost like a manga in novel form. It feels super unique. It follows a outcast young man who was born without a 'path' in his community and shunned for it, and how that experience impacts the entire course of his life and changes the world. It is a really lovely tale with incredibly lovable and consistently written characters.

I really want to read the Bound and the Broken books. I'm working on reading Pillars of the Earth right now, and hopefully the sequels. Those are some pretty thick books, so I probably shouldn't add another series of thick books to the mix! I'm also working on the 3rd book in the Suneater series. Dandelion Dynasty is also high on my list, but will have to wait until next year.

I too need to get back to Earthsea 😅 LeGuin was a gem and a master of the craft
