here’s what Abel said about the album in case you haven’t seen…..”picture the album being like the listener is dead. And they're stuck in this purgatory state, which I always imagined would be like being stuck in traffic waiting to reach the light at the end of the tunnel. And while you're stuck in traffic, they got a radio station playing in the car, with a radio host guiding you to the light and helping you transition to the other side. So it could feel celebratory, could feel bleak, however, you want to make it feel, but that's what 'The Dawn' is for me."
It's crazy bc after listening through the entire album, that was exactly the idea I got - like I was stuck in some sort of purgatory, feeling and reflecting. Abel is such a legend.
this album is insane. it can be a little strange at first listen but after that you just start to realize how big it actually is. i loved it as usual. he is sick and im just a huge fan

Just realized that the last track and first track both have the birds chirping at the end and start respectively. I wonder if this is him stuck in that purgatory state until he can let go of those regrets and move on. Until then the cycle (album) just repeats itself over and over until he does.
Yes because even the last song, less than zero he still regretting so he has to start over again and again and at this point he’s old . It’s sad honestly. The gasoline video makes so much sense now
Bit of a Theory, abel dies during the last song of after hours “until I bleed out” and this is a direct continuation of that album and guiding him to the after life. But, he’s stuck in purgatory bc of his regret in past relationships with women prior and his fate is yet to be decided.l according to the last track on dawn fm. This theory is kinda all over the place but that’s how I see it and it’s brilliant story telling.
@@odysseus2k1 I think he might stay in that era. However, he might dabble into dream pop or chamber pop. Less than Zero sounded more like dream pop and was completely different from the rest of the album.
Never felt more seen by an album. If you've ever been in a dying toxic relationship this is literally the feeling. The euphoria of the ride up followed by the crash and burn, the regret, the pleading for a second chance, and the ultimate realization that you have to let go to heal and be a better person (get into heaven)
Man, you reaction to this album made me realize how really good it is. I liked it from the beginning when I heard it at his listening party on Amazon Music, but your analysis and interpretation made it 100 times better.
Phantom Regret is a piece of poetry that will stay with me (us) for the rest of my life. I felt almost like I'm at a gates of heaven - I'm almost there, I see it, I'm transcending, it's getting so close - THEN BOOM - album restarts again with birds chirping. No heaven. Time to get through the experience again.
38:15 nobody gonna talk about how smooth best friends transitoned to is there someone else I was listening the whole album in order and i didn't knew the new song started playing it was that smooth😂
let's also add the transition of 'is there someone else?' to 'starry eyes' is similar to what he did with 'adaptation' to 'love in the sky' on kissland. **chef kiss**

Aside from your reaction to the album, I loved your awareness about Able’s cynicism. The way you described it in his life made me think so much about how cynical I am towards relationships within my life. I’m so high but it’s something interesting I picked up
@@brandusz I’ve been listening to it all day in my car and with my headphones. I found some spare weed and thought to myself: I haven’t gotten High in ages and the weekend dropped a sonically amazing project. I gotta smoke and listen to this this shit
I cry ever time I listen to this album. It’s absolute perfection. I love all of Abel’s albums…, especially After Hours, but THIS!!! This is just beyond anything I’ve ever felt in my entire life. Has me rethinking everything in my entire life. It’s just too much to handle alone. Thank you Abel for making me feel less alone.
First let me say than you for this reaction /review and for being someone who did more than impulse surface listen to this project. You went into the deep end and you have to with this one because it's not as easy listening full of instant hooks and bangers and bops This project is heavy it's philosophical and full of contrasts and the casual listener might easily dismiss it I enjoyed you insight and like you for me this is more than do I like the sounds on this It's deeper level connection It made me cry more than once . It wasn't what I expected but it is everything and it's nearly impossible to rank or rate it as just music cause it's more This is art By the way my top 3 are less than zero, starry eyes and out of time But that may change as I continue to absorb and process this master work
really solid review and analysis. i appreciate that you kept most of the album audio in your reaction video -- other people cut large chunks out (for copyright/monetization reasons)
it’s so interesting to see how u interpret his lyrics even if I have a different interpretation I completely understand yours. it makes my fall in love with his songs even more cause that’s what good music is to me. many different opinions and everybody feels/sees something else in it. example: in how do i make u love me. i interpret the line „forget ‘bout what ur daddy said I‘ll teach u how to shine“ in such a feminist way, how man and fathers tell us to rather stay quiet so u don’t attract „bad“ man and don’t get hurt. even if they just wanna protect us they don’t tell their sons so and able reversed the situation and steps back to make us shine/heard while feeling save. however ur point of view is also so amazing and it mad me really think about. so thank u.
I've been up for literally 4-5 hours watching reaction videos and everybody out there is dancing or like criticizing the songs' style and here you are diving into the lyrics, you made me sob man I'll never listen to the weeknd the same way again, thank you for opening our eyes to how deep and brilliant he actually is.
this dude knows how to read themes really well and make an interesting & investing review. Great stuff man, for sure gonna drop a sub for this. Edit: Also love how this dude doesn’t just dismiss A Tale By Quincy and takes time to treat it like a song as the story that it tells is very powerful and meaningful.
Had to listen to the album once and then came straight here for your reaction/review because I love how you analyze music! Now for my first “deep thought” listen
I was disappointed at first listen, but man this album is great. Awesome review as well man. You definitely need to listen to those three albums you said you haven't yet.
He is growing and changing due to changes all over the world :) He is Really pleasing a massive group of people. Maybe Loosing a minimum of hardcore fans, But then again gaining Lots of new fans. And some will follow him whatever he is up to❤️ I dont wanna pretend Im dead - hell no - Im alive!!! And Im soooo feeling my heart beating again to this album!
Exactly the same thing happens to me. This album gave me life again. I thank Abel every time I hear or think about this album. This is a gift. Dawn FM manages to hold my hand and guide me through this painful transition.
As an Aquarius moon death is often on our minds, The Weeknd is very creative and dark thats what makes him an Aquarius odd, unique, and deep. I love it!
Aside from the obvious purgatory as a metaphorical highway trip while we listen to a radio station and host guide us through the transition, no matter how long it may last, I love how Abel frames this entire narative in a way that so many people frame their lives and their happiness/success; through a romantic lense. This entire look back on his life is around chasing this love and obtaining the love and approval of this special someone. It's something that defines so many of our lives. it starts with gasoline as this character has a nihilistic stance on life and love (It's 5 am, i'm nihilist, i know there's nothing after this. The only thing I understand Is zero sum of tenderness Tenderness Oh baby please just hold me close Make me believe there’s more to this). This is what has landed him here in the first place. This is what he must atone for and move past to escape purgatory. We see this start to happen in A Tale By Quincy and Outta Time. The character accepts that he has issues with intimacy and trauma that he must process and heal from. This plays out until we get to the resolution in Less Than Zero and Phantom Regret. This is the point of true acceptance that the character doesn't need the love and approval he has been chasing, but first, he needs to love himself and accept himself to truly BE the happiness he has been looking for. (You gotta be heaven to see heaven. May peace be with you.)
I feel like the weekend will make 1 more album after this to tie his after hours trilogy up also to show his development/growth that us fans have seen throughout his artistic journey. After hours…Dawn… and then his third album. It would be a good way to somewhat finish his career or take a break as i feel like year after year he would be getting tired of making the same love album. He might want to expand into more art or collaboration stuff like whah he did with the echos of silence music video. I would love for him to keep making music, but he’s at his peak. I think he might want a break :)
After listening to Dawn FM around 100 times, still my voice breaks and tears running - I don't know, if they are for joy or sadness. Love this masterpiece. 💚
I have a few idea’s about the album cover and reason behind why he portrayed himself as an old man. First is him being cheeky towards his fanbase when many clam they want the “old weeknd” back. The second is him trying to imply that this may be one of his last albums because he’s getting older and close to retirement from the industry. Third is this is his mature state of mind and sound hence why he’s an older person. 🤷♀️maybe, maybe not…
First off: Great reaction video, as always! Secondly: You should consider reacting to Phoebe Bridgers albums, I think you'd really like them unless you're already familiar with all of her work!
What happened to The Weeknd reactions to his other albums and videos? His videos are on another level too! Subscribed to your channel. Your analysis is so appreciated. Keep up the awesome work. 👍 P.S. make sure you listen to the albums before watching the videos otherwise it would be way too distracting.
There is a feeling of solidarity on this project, like his words are spoken to share a kinship with both the woman he speaks to in the project but the listener as well. The Synths cut like daggers through a self- aware introspection of star-crossed lovers not without deep turbulence and distress. There’s so much inner conflict reflecting through this project. Dawn Fm is thick with unrest over most every feeling expressed.
Abel said we are in another trilogy he said last year he made so much magic in a little room people wanted to hear he stated to his fans trust him you don't want to hear it I think the next album will reveal everything in his life relationship love ECT. I think fans will be shocked. Abel loves screwing with people as he said he sees everything album is 🔥🔥🔥
I feel like this album is him dying and rewatching all his life in the afterlife therefore the old pic and all the afterlife mentions, they say when you die you see all your life choices and stuff is there and thats why he regrets it so much, i dont think is any correlation with Covid or the pandemic. Also i feel like its called the dawn bc all his youth he was in the dark and now finally its time for light and to accept all of his past mistakes and its time to move on Thats just what i got the feeling from all of this
I think he follows Q. Mentions calm before the storm in his Insta story, says the Don is coming (intentional misspelling) in his Insta story, and we are going to be transitioning into the light once the EBS comes. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, I’ve caught onto other subtle things too.
