Really cool that you called out the Phil Collins drums in ‘Pretty’. That was the actual inspiration. David Letterman made the connection immediately too when Weeknd performed it on the Late Show

I think the word you were looking for when describing it during the intro is "industrial". That's what I describe it as anyway. It sounds so grand in comparison to Trilogy which is influenced heavily by the year he spent in Tokyo. Kiss Land really is his most underrated project. It gets overshadowed by Trilogy as well as the commercial success of BBTM. Personally I feel BBTM is overproduced. Kiss Land is the musical embodiment of middle child syndrome in The Weeknd's discography.

Thanks man, but I've heard every Weeknd album after kiss land lol, that's why I went back and listened to his early work! I've heard everything from "beauty behind the madness" onward
