Die For You 11. I Feel It Coming This could have been a damn good record. If you're going to make an 18 song album, make sure the songwriting is consistent and creative.

this wasn't a great album, but I like the direction he's going in. I think this album should've just been much shorter like how Bruno Mars had a solid 9 or 10 songs for one of his best albums of his career.

Reminder is a musical masterpiece

"Ordinary Life" flew right over your head. The song isn't about women wanting him for his fame or fortune, it's about him coming to terms with the life he has chosen and the realization that he has sold himself to the devil. That song is in my opinion one of his best works.

I really loved this thing. There are some pretty bad tracks on here, but in my opinion a vast majority of the album is high quality. Lonely Night and Starboy are two of the best songs Abel's made, and Lonely Night really proves that he could make moody music that still has energy and propulsion to it. I am a pretty big Weeknd fan though, so definitely a little bias. edit: they really shouldn't have put the autotune on his voice though. He doesn't need it, all it does is make him sound generic.

Die for You is my probably my favorite song ever recorded by The Weeknd and nobody has mentioned it here. But anyway, I'm a huge fan, and I've been rockin with The Weeknd ever since his Tumblr days and I'm still not over his lyrics and subject matter but I guess thats me just being bias. Also, Rockin is like top 3 on my favorite tracks from this album so idk what this dude is talking about.. Starboy is an 8/10.

Nobody realizes that Abel really did come together with a masterpiece and listened to his fans for once . People wanted to hear the new Abel , he put it on , people wanted the old Abel , he put it on. And the songs that he took risks in such as secrets and I feel it coming are amazing. It's a mixture of 80s pop and trap with the abels dark voice makes it an amazing track but people are way to blindsided because of the way he speaks of cars and materialistic things In about two songs. Abel has changed his whole perspective on who he is with this album. This is the first time he's ever really sounded more upbeat but still bringing that dark aside with him . Even in true colors where it sounds he really talks about real love which he's never done he still has that Abel feel . A feel no other artist really knows how to achieve In my opinion . And the way he incorporates funk into pop and trap is really outstanding even if that is more of a production cause it's still his voice . People here one song and and bass their whole opinion from that when in reality it's deeper than that . The album is amazing and takes risks that I think were achieved. Just know this happy Abel will not stick unfortunately. He changes too much for it to stick . But it's an amazing change too me . 8.5/10 from me . Not 5 to a light 6 because that's just degrading.

its crazy that the "tacky" house beat that he talks about is now a huge part of music today. shows that abel has always been ahead of his time.

the thing is I think Starboy in my opion had a very different ending. In Beauty Behind the Maddness in the last song Angels he lets the girl he love go. As for this Starboy album on his last song I feel it coming ft. daft punk. he alomost kinda ebraces the love and to me tht's showing a more softer side that he's not as used to feeling.

Rockin is easily one of the best songs on the album. EXTREMELY catchy song, I listened to it nonstop for 2 days straight after I first heard it. I would agree with your opinion overall though that the album is a very mixed bag. Some solid songs and then some pretty meh songs.

I loved this a lot more than BBTM because of the production and aesthetic. I love the 80's style and even the inconsistencies don't take away from the music in my opinion. Great review!

It may not be what 2011 Weeknd fans love, but I can see this winning album of the year. So many upcoming billboard hits on this album. Yes, it's very lengthy but it has a little bit of everything for various listeners. Almost every person I've asked for their favorite 5 on the album had different songs in different order. Speaks a lot about his versatility. All in all, I thought it was an amazing album (sonically).

When Abel said the words, "I ran out of tears when I was 18," I fucking shat a brick. So good.

At this point Abel needs to release a mixtape with tracks similar to his Rambo remix, KOTF, Reminder, Initiation, Low Life etc

Abel is pretty much going with the "If it's not broken, don't fix it." And I can't blame him for that. He gives the fans what they want even though I agree that his stories are getting a little stale and repetitive. His sound however is evolving. Starboy, Reminder, True Colors, Sidewalks, Die For You and I Feel It Coming are all bangers and are in my opinion - eventhough they are the same stories - Abel evolving his sound.

My favorite tracks: Starboy, Party monster, false alarm, reminder, secrets, six feet under, a lonely light, nothing without you, I feel it coming ,

There's 18 tracks and I like 12. I give it 12/18. That's how I rate albums. I was surprised I liked this project.

I fucking hate every song that features Future, it's a juxtaposition to Abel's voice and it doesn't work.

I agree, the future assisted cuts I could have done without. I've been a fan since Kiss Land..."Professional" drew me in. Because I ignored his shallow music...when I recognized his depth, I became a fan. I think we all relate to the introvert at the end of the day. And we celebrate the introvert coming out from the dark to have fun...which is the case with Abel. I think this album was a great cohesive project...his most uptempo music. Which I like a lot. He's really the only one that can pull his style off. I think this review was good but a little over critical. It's closer to a perfect album than decent....trim the fat, take it down to like the 13 most solid tracks and it's really Thriller 2016

False Alarm's charm comes out when you just play it on the background while doing other things. Definitely not a song to solely listen to or introspect to.

I actually didn't like Sidewalks very much mainly because of the autotune on The Weeknds vocals, becomes to screechy almost to me. I agree on the point the album as a whole being a bumpy ride though, many fillers and not so great tracks mixed together with some amazing really well put together tracks! I would probably give the album like a 6 because the tracks that I like I really really like while most of the ones I didn't were passable but maybe not that great.

He gave house of balloons a 3/10, which is literally the album every true Abel fan compares all his new music to. I respect his opinion but when it comes to The Weeknd I find it irrelevant.

I agree completely! Completely! I was bored more than anything while listening to this album. I can go back to the mixtapes & still get a high from those. I was expecting to be blown away because it's The Weeknd & I was completely disappointed. I feel like all he talks about now is his cars & lambos & "that girl". This album was borderline corny & if it had not been for like 5 songs this album would've been complete ass.

This album is goated. Hell of a lot of highlights. Some duds, but I feel like even the duds have their own fan base. Like rockin is considered a dud but I love it.

I personally like this new album and all of Abel's stuff. :)
