@@KLEJGaming In fact, Cars 2 (released in 2011) was the final game for both Leapfrog's original Leapster (debuted in 2003) and VTech's V Smile (debuted in 2004)
Fun fact, today, even though the game is almost 13 years old, Cars 2’s DSI SPY CAMERA still works! Yes, 13 years later, the DSI’s cameras still are able to read the QR codes for the extra unlocks. I recently did this with my Mario 25th Anniversary Edition DSI XL with my copy of Cars 2 so I could finish my Character/Paintjob collection. Only thing that doesn’t work is the “World Of Cars” online feature as the servers have long since been shut down. (June 21st is Cars 2 DS’ release date for those wondering)
I can back you up on that, my DSi XL that i’ve had for years still scans those QR Codes and they still work. Anyone can find them on wiki pages if you search it up
Yeah, I had the game since release and as a kid I never got to 100% the game cause of the qr codes. Fast-forward to current day and I found the codes on some random forum and finally unlocked the missing characters
Also, if you play the game on a ds or ds lite it will ask for a password instead. This method is probably better because the passwords are way easier to find
Yes unfortunately the only skins you can’t get are the country themed ones, which I don’t think it’s documented anywhere, but again I think they were to be obtained in World Of Cars Online, which no longer works now.
Fun fact: The ds version of cars 2 was made using an early version of the movie. That's why there's tracks in France and Germany as they were planned for the movie.

In 2007 my dad was deployed over seas for a year. He knew I loved cars so he somehow managed to find cars matornational for ds and mailed it to me. Played that game so much and remember loving it. Glad to hear it wasn't actually a dumpster fire lol
Here's a story about the 1st Cars game; When I was 7-8 (2011), I was in a K-mart with my aunt, and we were looking for a DS game to give me for Christmas. We found Cars, and it was marked below $10 on clearance, and since I didn't have too many DS games at the time I jumped at the opportunity, given that I grew up with Cars on the PS2 (which I still love to this day, despite the wonky controls and physics). So, you can probably imagine my disappointment when I found out it was just nothing but minigames. Needless to say, I never bought clearance games at K-mart ever again
I forgot to mention this on your Cars 2 video, but the story of the Cars 2 video game on the home consoles does not follow the movie in any way. The game has one of those weird stories that happens after the film. Despite where the film ends, it makes no sense for what is happening.
12:18 The DS version of Cars 2 was made by Firebrand games who also made DS versions of Grid, Dirt 2, NFS Undercover and Nitro They also made the 3DS version which is the same game but with better graphics
@@maspunchnath7487same here, ended up playing both games on the Nintendo Ds and right away ended up noticing some similarities, what with the way both games handle, and some of the sound effects used.
I don't know if the other cars games sold well but by the time cars 2 on DS came out, my local worten had an entire shelf unit covered in cars 2. Not a shelf. A shelf UNIT. Those 6-foot long metal stands with 4 whole shelves up and down, the entire thing covered with cars 2 for DS. I'm sure they sold it all.
Me three. Maybe it's just my nostalgia blinding me, but for what it's worth, I at least remember having fun playing this game (and the Wii version too), and to the point of almost unlocking everything in it (saying almost since thanks to some things either having to be unlocked through some cheat codes, or just straight up never knowing what I was actually supposed to do to unlock all of the other things. At least the Wii version did show how to unlock every character there). At the very least, I would say that I'm glad I didn't get the Ds version of the first movie game.
On the Race-O-Rama there is a shortcut on the track I found out years ago. Track is Santa Carburera 3, before that you can get inflatable tires, there is a corner on middle of track where you are supposed to take tight left turn, straight and the loop around. You can bypass that by taking tight right turn and just going straight. EDIT: Huge nostalgia from this video, I had all the Cars games for DS.
As someone who've played the Cars 2 DS Game as a kid, you got most of the points right. The missions were so hard that I was unable to complete it when I was young. The special moves were... something, and the races were probably the "best" part of the game.
I remember playing the original Cars game and Race o Rama on my R4 as a kid. I have since found a complete copy of Race-O-Rama for $4 on eBay (inc shipping) and have since replayed that to completion.
Still have my 2 copies of MaterNational, Race-O-Rama, and Cars 2. MaterNational Championship is my favorite of the Cars “DS” lineup. I’ve 100%ed it four times. Still play it daily as well. Two of these games aren’t weird either, they are proper ds games. (Those being MaterNational and Cars 2). I must say, Race-O-Rama’s physics are totally fucked, the AI are hilariously horrible (they will literally drive off the maps half the time) and the “postcard” challenges are horribly implemented in some of the maps. EDIT: *FINALLY 100%ED RACE-O-RAMA FOR DS ON JUNE 22ND, TOOK ME 15 YEARS, FINALLY DONE!* 🤣🤣 Also for its time, MaterNational having a actual 3D cutscene with voices at the beginning and end was rather impressive for the DS back in 2007. I don’t know why they didn’t revisit this when they developed Race-O-Rama. But they did bring it back for Car 2 (albeit using the vanilla character designs).
I got cars 2 on ds new because at walmart i wanted to buy super mario maker for 3ds but it was too expensive so i settled for that and i didn't finish it for 4 years until i did and sold it for $2 credit at a game store and bought a togepi sticker with it. I dont even like togepi but i got more joy out of the sticker than i did the game
Back when I was a kid I wanted every version of all the Cars games because I knew how different they were so I owned the Wii, GBA, and DS versions of Cars 1, and Maternational. The DS and Xbox 360 version of Cars 2, and only the Wii version of Race o Rama. I also had the PC version of Cars 1 but I could never get it to work on my old Windows XP computer lmfao and I later got (and plan to get the rest) of the Xbox 360 ports of all the games since they're the HD versions. Even though Cars 1 on DS is only a minigame collection and not really that great, I still think the models and graphics have a lot of charm. Maternational was actually a fun time. I never played a ton of the DS version of Cars 2 but enjoyed what I played, and I've never played the DS version of Race o Rama
Cars 2 DS was my favorite DS game growing up. I always wanted to unlock all of the paint schemes and characters, so I would search the 2011 internet for any leads I could find. I never could get everything unlocked.
I absolutely loved maternational as a kid, 100%ed the game on my dsi multiple times, so i got some major nostalgia when this video hit my recommended I also have the wii version of race-o-rama, which is darn good fun too.
dang, now I want to pull out my old ds and boot up mater-national, so many good memories of that game. I remember really loving playing as the police car, and trying to unlock more cars. also, busting through those cones never got old. great times all around
FINALLY A GOOD REVIEW ON DS, this video was needing to be made for 10 years bruh and you did it, maters ds game was so good with all the shortcuts n unlocks
Best cars classic Game design? Cars: MaterNational better than race o rama. - Skins & new maps - New Characters - New Race Championship - Many Variations of the shortcuts - Level design - Visual environment - References to The film - Handling & Brake system - Different custom races Who more?
I _distinctly_ remember having the OG Cars DS game. All I really remember though was staring at a stoplight and not knowing jack shit of how it worked. I should mention I was like 3 but still
I played both the first and the last game, all I can say is I really enjoyed it because I was a child and it’s very nostalgic to play now and Ill agree the 2nd game was very strange in movement but it was a great idea, I liked the spy stuff and racing (btw there’s a mode that you can play that is just racing and with multiple characters to choose and variants of McQueen and mater) the first game I liked it, it was mini games but to me they were fun and I remember wanting to grind each mode and get the highest especially with the Ramon one which was so fun. God bless you all and your families. Jesus Christ loves you
The 3DS version of Cars 2 is a improved version of the DS version. The controls are better, the Graphics are a bit better as well, but overhaul, it's the same exact game. One thing that I love about the DS/3DS version of Cars 2 is that it uses scraped races that would have been in the Movie. The Movie has 3 big races. Towkyo, Porto Corsa and England (yes, this is how they are called in the movie). Well, if you look at the Movie concepts and discarted scenes, the movie would actually have 2 more races. One in Germany, being a 24 hour long race, and one in France. The movie would also focus more in the races, even with the Spy stuff still there. The DS version actually bring back the Germany and France races, and that makes me love this game way more than I'm supposed to. It kinda makes me wish that the Movie had them.
I played cars 2 on the 3ds a lot, and one thing i hated was in the basic race mode, all of the cars would just explode, and go super slow mid race so your chance of winning was really bad rng
@@KLEJGaming it was a while ago, but im pretty sure it being tied to some mechanic with the death camera like in the movies. There was a way to fix it in game but i wasnt good enough for that
I really loved playing the GBA game. Other than that, I played all the DS games except the Race-o-rama one, because I literally didn´t know there was a handheld version of that game.
2 stories about the cars games: 1. I grew up with mater national. Amazing memories of that game. Although I couldn’t get all the medals. 2. There was a cars game on IOS from my childhood where you scan toy cars to play and I can’t never find it someone help me here
The song in the intro is the song that plays when you select the italy map in cars 2 the video i know this because i had the game for the wii when i was a kid i have hours in that game i even found glithes that you can t find on youtube like a out of bounds glitch thanks KLEJ Gaming for the memories
I never played the DS version of Cars but it seems like that I missed nothing important. I was really surprised that this game is just a mini game collection. I know that the home console versions of Cars also had that and they we're also pretty good but this wasn't the entire game. I thought that the GBA version isn't good but this video completely changed my mind. Maternational DS was the first DS game I've ever played and for me it's also better than the home console (and GBA) versions. The home console versions are different from the DS version and also have some good things but the DS version is still better especially when you sometimes need to drive completely other routes to unlock other things which I love. Besides Diddy Kong Racing I never saw such a mechanic before and I absolutely love this. This game could really hold up with Mario Kart DS and also the next Mario Kart game could use some of the things in Maternational DS for their own game. To come back to Cars and Race O Rama. I never played any of the versions. I saw the Wii Version of this game but I didn't like the cover on it and so Race O Rama is the only Cars game where I never played any version of it. But from what I've seen on the DS version it looks pretty good. Not as good as Maternational DS but still way better than Cars DS. And last but definitely not least Cars 2. I'm one of the few people who likes the film Cars 2 more than 1 and 3 and also the DS version of this game which I've played is pretty good. Not as good as Maternational DS but it's not bad and I had a lot of fun. The story is almost identical to the movie but just almost. For some reasons in the story mode of this game you have to race in France and Germany which weren't race tracks in the World Grand Prix in the movie. And this was never the case in the home console versions which I think doesn't even have a story mode and when than it isn't like in Cars 2 for DS. I also played the Wii version and I liked it more because here it was possible to collect weapons during a race and shoot at opponents which reminds me pretty much on Mario Kart Wii. I wished that the DS version also had this but sadly no. The DS version also has a different boost mechanic where you can fully charge your boost and than you can get a long boost where there are three different types which is also important for shortcuts. The first one is where you just jump in the air. The second one is where your character just drive on two side wheels just like in the home console versions of Cars where it's possible with a certain button combination. And there's also the third one which just boost normal but can break walls for some reason. And there's only one shortcut for a specific boost type which is pretty much op. To rank the Cars DS games I would say: Maternational > Cars 2 > Race O Rama > Cars
@@PeruvianPotato No problem. I liked it that the second film is a bit different because tbh I wouldn't like the film that much when it's just about the Piston Cup again. Nothing against Cars 1 (I also like the film a lot) but I prefer Cars 2 a little more.
For some reson I remember the game where mator has to fly in space to collect stars when I was very little probably becauce I loved cars as a kid the only other ds game I remember when I was little was some random snoopy game.
God I remember having the first one for DS and being like "wtf is this why cant I do racing", being really confused and thinking I had to keep playing to get to the racing eventually, but it never came :(
Before watching: I only played Race O Rama and quite liked it back then. It was fun for me as a Cars hardcore fan. As a kid of 2004, Cars just was my childhood and I would not want to miss the show ever again.
Yeah, it seems like the games aren’t that bad. The first one is… weird? And Cars 2 had a nice approach. Race O Rama looked quite refined actually which is pretty cool, but I feel like the games are all in all quite okay. Not bad, not extremely good. That’s more than I thought it would be.
I’ve always had a bit of trouble with cars games, cuz I’m definitely sure I’ve played a few of them back in the day, but unfortunately I don’t seem to be able to point out which ones I played.
i had fun with the ds versions of cars 1 and 2 but especialy with cars 2 i still could play it i love the three different versions of this game like toy story 3 and the simpsons game
10:12 Spoken like a true gentleman. Good video, and very dense with content looking at all of these at once! The one positive thing I noticed about the first game was that the models look great, they're really accurate to the source material. Obviously that doesn't at all excuse the lack of gameplay, but I think it's quite important for a licensed game to give the player the feeling of getting to visit the world/characters of the IP they're familiar with, so it's nice they at least managed to get the visuals somewhat right
Bro I was a beast at Cars 2 and the orange muscle car is indeed Snot Rod, but I personally call him just Rod(even tho there’s a character in the second movie by that name too)
I used to play Race-o-Rama all the time as a kid, I never had Mario Kart DS as a kid so Race-o-Rama was my only real racing game on the DS, and I still like the game
I think the reason Race O Rama DS looks so bad is cause they probably had separate teams working on them and given these are both 2007 games one of them had to take a hit
@@KLEJGaming Yeah, Nowadays I don't have an urge to ply them, but when I do, the nostalgia flows through my veins like coca- I mean like my blood. Yeah...That's what I meant...
