So not "fake" in the sense of him not being real or them just being friends rather than a couple, but "fake" in the sense that the relationship was already over and she pretended that it wasn't so she could have a personal connection to the military/patriotism theme for the challenge. But I personally think none of us can ever know what the truth is. Even if the ex in question came out and told his side of things, it would just be his story vs. Alexis'.
The only ship I’ve ever loved is Sashea because it wasn’t forced by production and instead developed naturally as the season progressed until the fans caught on. It’s also such a perfect ship name, I mean come on.
i’d say camden and angeria also came off quite natural at first up until daytona winds, and even then it wasn’t really forced that much by production until the reunion when they had a whole segment dedicated to it. now if you really wanna talk about forced, it be the whole willow and angie storyline that was only put in place to explain why both of them stayed in the final lipsync lol

the reason I hate shipping on RPDR is because the fans view the queens as characters rather than actual people. It feeds an uncomfortable detachment that makes fans feel safe to criticize the queens so easily.
but that doesn't happen because of shipping, that happens because they are on TV and people start to disassociate, dehumanizing them because that's what TV does, it shapes you into a character by editing you how they want. What you said it's not a shipping issue, people will/would see them as characters regardless, unfortunately

This. When they said they were show-y I couldn’t disagree more. They had an actual spontaneous attraction that was very clearly natural(based on the way they interact, talk to/about each other, continuously making sure to keep competition separate) and ended in a natural way as well. They mentioned the producers didn’t see it coming, which means it was so natural they kept it Lowkey at first, it wasn’t just for screen time

I would say the first ship that started it all was actually Alaska and Sh*ron. Yes they were a couple outside the show and didn't compete together but Alaska's season was heavily influenced by their relationship. From the whole "being in Sh*ron's shadow" to the idea of a "royal couple", it's pretty clear Drag Race saw the potential of shipping because of them. Hell, season 5 is the only season where contestants lip-synced to untucked and what did they have Alaska's group lip-sync to? Sh*ron and Jaremi. By the way I wouldn't be surprised if she got bad critics that week just because she played Jaremi and said she actually liked them instead of playing Sh*ron, like production set up her up to do.
@@maurogentile7669 Yes but my point was mostly about the impact this couple had on the season. Sahara didn't stay long enough in her original season for it to affect Manila in hers, although she did comment on it in her opening line, which was cute.
Completely agree - never got into the shipping aspect of it. Always seems forced tbh but that’s not to say the queens don’t have real feelings but it is EXAGGERATED just like any aspect of the show.
I kinda love that they included ships. Drag queens were not desirable in “gay” spaces years ago- some queens talk about difficulty finding partners that accept them and their drag. Drag race has progressed in such a way that dating or being in a relationship with someone who does drag is more normalized. (From my very un-researched perspective)
I think it’s a grey area for a lot of people when it comes to shows like this. They play a character but are still the real people at the end of the day. Some people are able to remove the actual human being aspect so easily
I’ll admit the relationship angle always do kinda forced like obvs production is making a thing out of this. But friendships formed from the show flirty or otherwise are my jam. Sasha and Shea, Denali and Rose, Naomi and Kim. There you can tell the show actually had a long lasting impact in shaping these people beyond the drag and that’s what I love to see. And if it’s flirty occasionally that’s fine too you can be flirty with friends and know it won’t mean anything cause you’re that secure in it. I’d love to see a video on true blue friendships formed from the show, like maybe some underrated ones, no shame to Trixie and Kayta we just know they’re best mates. Love the videos keep up the good work!
I'd love to see a video on drag race friendships tbh, on and outside the show, sometimes I lurk queens' ig and I'm kinda surprised they are friends because their friendship probably became a thing after filming

Like Lemon and Pri! How did I miss them in my post. Like on the show you could tell they were friends but it wasn’t till after where I was like damn. These two are absolutely legit, and now I love them both to the stars and back!
Carmen Farala and Dovima Nurmi on Espana 1 was just so cute to watch. It didn't seem romantic to me, but more really close and caring. They were actually one of the things I enjoyed the most that season.
What always kinda irked me about Camgeria was they kinda hammed it up as a story beat, and then in the final competitive episode Angeria went on and on about how the person she has the most connection with was Willow (forshadowing their lip sync). The top 5 were all very fond of eachother, clearly, but the “she’s my best friend” moment that episode felt kinda out of place for me.

My opinion: I fully believe that Brooke knew she wasn’t a big personality for TV, but vangie of course is. She knew that talent alone wouldn’t get her to the end if she doesn’t have a storyline. Sure, she probably thought Vangie was sexually attractive enough to fling with. But I don’t think she ever had any intention to go beyond the surface. It’s even more evident at the season 11 reunion.
I mean, they're best friends. Always posting together, Vanjie was a guest judge on Canada's Drag Race. If Vanjie doesn't harbour bad feeling towards Brooke, why should we?
I am a person who usually dislikes shipping pretty much all the time. Whether it's RPDR, anime, live TV whatever. But with Jinkx and Ivy Winters I damn sure came close. So even if I don't like it, I understand 🤣
It's really interesting to me how the rate of these showmances has accelerated. Like these examples go season 5, then fastforward to season 11, but then it's every season since.

u know what’s something u didn’t touch on.. the fact queens on the show have actually dated.. like Sahara(rip) and manila.. or sharon and Alaska.. ik they didn’t compete on the same season.. but a ship like Sharon and Alaska was SO popular.. i think it kind of set a president for drag race ships.. and I think ppl just like a good romance story.. like the push for Alaska to win and have a ‘Royal’ couple was so heavy. I think those relationships helped show the impact to a show relationship happening.

honestly? they should change the format and put them all in a house, Big brother style, and let them interact with each other all the time. It really rubs me to wrong way knowing they're confined to their own rooms while they're not in the set, they're not allowed to talk to eachother unless the cameras are filming, it just feels very stifling and I understand why many queens just burn out half way through a season.

I don’t want a sound like a hater but I’ve never been a fan of most of the relationships I’ve seen or heard about on drag race 🤧🫠 I think of drag race was like ANTM (like the name sake was a an inspiration for the show) but if we saw them interact in the house maybe that be better but tbh I don’t like seeing relationships on reality tv in general even if it’s genuine the outlook will always look like a showmance and fake to me.

Honestly this video is wild like the only shipping stuff I've really been involved with are drag race are AUs (alternative universes) and most of them are the drag personas as lesbians etc like Ao3 (archive or our own) has so many f/f fics the most popular being Trixie and Katya like the fandom tag is RPF (real person fiction) but like most of it aint Brian X brian tho they do borrow aspects from Thier personal life as well as Thier drag personas most obvious with katyas addiction and Trixie's music .
I’m honestly of the opinion that if you’re gonna pursue a relationship storyline, just let it happen naturally… plus everything is so much more awkward and uncomfortable when it’s forced, for the queens AND for the audience (EDIT) It’s so much nicer when something gets itself off the ground rather than having production strap a firework to its back and telling us it flies

Utica and Olivia Lux from Season 13 were cute. A lot of their interactions seemed shady, but it makes sense that it was rooted in the awkwardness of a budding relationship. I think they went on one date after the show, but I'm not sure of their status now.
