I’ve wanted to read Borne for ages based on the cover alone but I’d never heard anyone describe it before…I’m definitely sold now!

it's so good and sticks out so vividly in my brain even years after reading it

Borne is SO GOOD! I still think of it often and the narrator did such a good job with the audiobook. I still hear the creature say the woman's name in my head, lol. And no one talks about it. 😢 such an underrated and under appreciated book.

I'm going to reread the Yoon Ha Lee series now! Thank you for the reminder. Great list, as always :)

The weirdest book I have read is Radiance by Catherynne M. Valente. It’s an alternate history about a documentary film maker that goes missing on Venus during a shoot. I read it years ago and still think about it to this day.

I'm almost finished Slewfoot by Brom and I think it would perhaps fit in this category. I think it's something you might enjoy because it's quite witchy... but set in Puritan society... with a splash of Guillermo Del Toro vibes?! So yes, an odd mix. Very entertaining. But also tense.

One weird little book I really enjoyed was Dance Dance Dance by Murakami. I’ve read it twice, I know I really enjoyed it both times, but I remember a lot more vibes than plot.

In The House In The Dark Of The Woods by Laird Hunt; I've been describing it as Over The Garden Wall/ The Witch but written by Kafka. Its unsettling and strange, like a fever dream. Theres a quiet terror to it thats hard to explain. Its only 200 pages, but scenes from it have randomly been popping into my head since i read it. I cant wait to reread when autumn comes ❤

4:00 YES!! 😩 I literally JUST started reading Juniper & Thorn yesterday and I'm already 20% in! Picked it up specifically because I wanted a "weird little book!"

Juniper and Thorn is one of my favorite books of all time! I also really need to read borne and Gideon the ninth but I'm so intimidated by Gideon the 9th. I want to get more into Sci-Fi first before I try to jump into something like that. Too like the lightning sounds really interesting too 👀

If it makes you feel better, I would say Gideon is more fantasy than hard sci-fi. It is sci-fi, but it is not concerned with the tech side of things. It’s more like how Star Wars is sci-fi, than something that is just technology and spaceships. It’s is crazy though haha.

Solid list I’ve read 4 of. Definitely continue on with the Terra Ignota series (Too like the Lightning). It just keeps getting better. For a shorter weird book I highly recommend ICE by Anna Kavan 220 pages of surreal.

So I can't remember the name of it but it's the one you just presented and you said it was really dark but it's not fantasy vibes but it was still cringy I'm here for it different kind of cringy but I just recently read a documentary on Ted Bundy and I couldn't sleep for like 4 weeks
