West Coast nicely followed the lead of the East Coast rappers’ Stop The Violence Movement’s “Self-Destruction.” Check that one out if you haven’t, Jack.

Digital Underground best verse by far. Crazy that Shock G and Humpty are the same dude! Made that verse even more impressive.

The East Coast all stars also made a sing right sound the same time. It’s called “Self-Destruction”. You should check it out. Very similar vibe.

There's a song from 1985 called "Sun City" by Artists United Against Apartheid. It didn't get much airplay like "We Are The World" did. But a few of the artists are on both songs.

This was 1990. Dr Dre and Yella produced this. Filmed in Watts, CA in the Nickerson Garden projects. I’m from Watts, so I’m very familiar.

The third MC was Def Jeff. Originally from New York, he came out to LA at a young age and started his music career. He made a handful of pretty good songs. He was label-mates with Tone-Loc and Young MC, on the Delicious Vinyl record label.

Nice request Monico22. Yep Jack & Monico22 you've got a lot of young ones now & back then too trying to be like these rappers who truly lived this life not because they wanted to but because this was the life they were dealt. Your comment brought to mind what Michael Irvin, former Cowboy player said to his son who raps. His son was rapping about things he never experienced and his dad Michael Irvin was like son what are you rapping about, where does this come from, you grew up in a gated community your whole life. I laughed so hard when his daddy exposed his fraudlent hip hop persona.

They're singing about all being in the same gang but shortly after this video was released, Dre beat up the very first lady to rap on this song. The one with the short black hair. Her name is Dee Barnes. That's the same lady that he brutally attacked at an industry party. She even tried to get away by running to the ladies restroom but that didn't deter him. He bust the door open and contunued to mercilessly beat her up, while his security stood outside the restroom, armed and blocked all the other men from entering to save her. She had to be hospitalized with broken ribs and a concussion. She sufferes from flashbacks, memory loss, migraines, extreme anxiety and vision problems, even after all these decades since it happened. Plus, he medical problems caused her to have to quit hip hop and TV because she use to have a Saturday afternoon video show and Gary F Gray worked on the show, too. The irony is that this song was suppose to be about the coming together in an effort to stop the black on black violence and crime, saying 'We're All In The Same Gang'. So I guess that 'Same Game' bull shit is just for the guys. Women, you're on your own.

I remember this one. I appreciated the message, but Michel'le talking voice stood out for me: Make the change cause we're all in the same game. I was like, is that really her talking voice. I think her debut album dropped later the same year this song came out in 89'. But her voice was just so amazing, and her song, "Something in My Heart," moved me to tears, I could'nt understand why. Little did I know, the pain she was feeling was so real & strong that I felt it through her music. Plus, I found out on the Arsenio Hall Show that was her talking voice. Thanks for the request Monico22.

I don't remember this one. Ironic how Dre was rapping about stopping the violence, given how he used to mistreat women.

I’ve lived on both coasts and I can be objective. That said, in terms of anti-violence songs, East > West. #SelfDestruction ✌🏽
