The very fact that you mention means this Union Jack is uniquely _not_ part of a colonizer's legacy, and therefore carries none of that baggage. It only evokes the heritage of the defunct independent Hawaiian nation. You should expect this to have the _least_ movement to ever be abolished.

King Kamehameha the great even sent letters to King George III and asked for his protection if any nations King George was at war with (notably napoleon during his attacks through eurasia) would attack the Hawaiian islands

@@psychomimine ??? Hating on the french has always been a joke (in the English world) due to the Franco-British wars going way back the centuries. You shouldn't take it seriously at all. Have you ever heard someone being upset about Chinese or Koreans or Russians for this reason? Nope. The main thing is that a BUNCH of people learn french and also spanish in schools and otherwise in the UK, USA and other areas. And, when they finally go to the one place where it can be used... people reply in English. I'm not saying the French are bad or whatever or that they need to cater to others. It's just frustrating for people who've spent years to learn languages that are not even in use in major cities of their respective countries. Especially to the point where locals straight up refuse to use French half the time if they can tell you're a foreigner. To conclude - Don't take random people saying things in jest seriously (to the point of using a different language). Use French, in France if others are trying to do so. ✌️
