Aaron Sorkin created an alternate reality that we all wished was real, where President Bartlet and his WEST WING staffers did everything they could to change their world, and in the process, left a lasting impact on ours - and the world of TV. In a rare conversation with Mr. Sorkin, director Thomas Schlamme, and lead cast members, we re-visit the heart-pounding conviction, spit-fire writing, and unforgettable characters that continue to impact viewers a decade later, as well as, the series’ ongoing relevance to American political culture. #TheWestWing
Panelists: Aaron Sorkin, Bradley Whitford, Richard Schiff, Dule Hill, Janel Moloney, Joshua Malina, Thomas Schlamme, Melissa Fitzgerald

I have been watching the West Wing since November 10, 2016. When the end credits for the last episode of season 7 play, I queue up season 1, episode 1 and start again. Every day. For four years. This is the only thing that keeps my heart from breaking over what's happening to our democracy right now. Bartlet for America. Please.

I am writing in 2020. These last few years, you did not have to wait for an election cycle to be in dire need of believing the system could work.Ironically I had been re watching it and had to stop as things got crazier and crazier during the pandemic.I truly believe this team of actors, , or for that matter my pet rock, could do a better job than what we have now. It's almost depressing to see an idealized white house. I'll go back to watching when Biden saves us all literally

AMEN. My wife and I were huge fans of the show (though we don’t share in the politics of most of it) as it’s one of the best written shows of all time. Ever since that episode where Bartlet tells Sam that he’ll be President someday, we’ve been saying that now is the time for that show. West Wing: The Next Generation, if you will. Not the entire cast would need to be there, but you could easily write in Donna as a power player in the party after all this time, and Josh is running the DNC (with them being long married). Will Bailey could even be VP (or at least a powerful cabinet post, as he’d have had the experience in office by then. MAKE THE SHOW, PLEASE!
@paulhenderson2895
@paulhenderson2895 7 лет назад
he even suggested that when he said "you are going to run for President one day". I see it maybe 16 years later- with maybe CJ as chief of staff, and Charlie as dep. chief. Donna involved as well, with she and Josh married- he makes guest appearances. Rest of the cast is new
@sharah5280
@sharah5280 7 лет назад
No Josh would be Chief of Staff. CJ would take Joshs job and be married to Danny with a kid. Donna would be a mother too. and maybe Glenn close as chief justice a regular cause she was awesome. and if they really wanted Sam could be a single president but engaged to the former 'call girl'. there would be untold drama cause Josh would lose his mind every day and Sam would actually punch him in the face. man i can see Sam take a swing at him. it would be Legendary.

Sterling Holmes The funny thing is that in 2016 you would have had a demonstrably better grasp of the role of the federal government and the presidency itself than the current president. I remember Trump saying stuff that I simply knew to be either untrue or not the way the presidency works, merely by watching this show. Question is: is that how good the show was, or how bad Trump was/is?

And now we can binge-watch on Netflix!! I too bought the series on DVD and just kept replacing the discs int he player - now all I have to do is start the series and let it autoplay!! I love everything about this show, from the opening theme music to the writing, to the acting which does not feel like you're watching "acting" - I fell in love with the characters and wished we had such a team in oour WH - then we got Obama and I thought my wishes had been fulfilled...but I still want Jeb...I love his wit, wisdom, caring, compassion, and a TRUE passion for protecting those he loves. I love how he confronts those who use the Bible as a weapon and would harm others with it. I would also love for Sorkin to be the speechwriter for our current President!!!

I was not watching TV when it was on (I would have gone nuts waiting for the next episode) but discovered it later at the library. I was so fortunate to be able to watch them in a row. Three different quotes from that series frame my ideas on how to run society and fulfilled much of what I needed.

This is my favorite series, television programs, I would have never purchased NETFLIX, if not for this show. Unfortunately, I know this is a fairy tail, DC is a very ugly place of politics, but it's necessary, we are very naive to think it's everything, but the West Wing series, but we attempt to embrace goodwill for 50 minutes of a weekly show only. The Pandora's box of Whitehouse evil has already opened, it'll never go back to that Westwing era, it can NEVER exist, nor will a series EVER be successful trying to make the public believe Whitehouse rhetoric.

there are 3 television shows, to my mind....that are basically, 'television art'. Six Feet Under, Sons of Anarchy and The West Wing. And all of them have something VERY in common, with each other...they were all born from the minds of men who are geniuses at their craft. They are Aaron Sorkin, Alan Ball and Kurt Sutter. But in my opinion, The West Wing is the best of the three (3 of my favorite shows)..and that was a hard pick. But Aaron separated his show from the pack, because he was so insanely dialed in on the pace of the show and dialogue and the extremely unique appeal of all things-White House related. He didn't miss a thing. And often times, I was blown away at how exact he was with every detail of the day to day-goings on of a presidential administration and how to make that 'story' something that a viewer would want to see, every week. It is, the most fascinating televsion show in history, in my opinion.

But I was on a big Moria Kelly kick from The Cutting Edge movie a few years prior, and actually only turned in out of curiosity because she was in it. @@cards0486 You’re right: Rob IS sexier. But Josh Malina is fantastic. The season 5+ writers didn’t get his character and really trashed it after Sorkin left sadly. But still a very strong character in its inception and a very skilled actor. But Rob is a hunk, no denying that.

Is it because of the RU-vid copyright rules that you had to cut out the Justice for Vets video? I really don't see how it benefits anyone or anything to not include that within this video.

Wonderful how watcher response has gone on for so long. Smart move for Netflix to stream it free for paid subscribers ❤️ I hope all Independents who haven’t seen it will start at the beginning. Even its ebbs and flows are interesting. Bett Williams

Loved the show and have seen it end-to-end countless times. However, one of the issues with the pilot is Sam not knowing who Mallory is - they'd have met on the campaign trail. President Bartlet's entrance is epic. Sorkin ia great and all that but he writes the same characters in every show, often using the same actors, the same plotlines e.g Studio 60 with the kidnap and ransom = The Newsroom with the kidnap and ransom.

I dont see why the campaign managers daughter would be out on the trail. That would be the equivalent of Josh's sister tagging along for the Santos campaign.

Vipresh Gangwal the clip was the very first Walk and Talk from the Pilot, where Leo is walking into the West Wing talking to various characters about the President crashing into a tree, etc.

Because of his drug problem Sorkin left WW after Season 4. He didn’t watch one episode after that while it was still airing. How could he stand that!? I didn’t agree with the politics of the liberal Democrats that ran the administration, but I couldn’t miss one scene of that program. It was brilliant.

Sorkin didn’t leave because of the drug stuff. He was clean by then. He left because of disagreements with WB execs and so did Tommy at the same time.

Interesting event but who the heck decided it would be a good idea to design the set to include women sitting on high stools while dressed in skirts? I am not a prude but I felt sorry for Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Moloney - they looked uncomfortable and I suspect many in the audience were too.
