From Brisbane to Charleville twice per week, this overnight train uses the air conditioned 'Lander carriages to travel the 800kms or so. It is usually doubled headed, as so few trains now run west of McAlister there is little to no motive power on hand should one locomotive fail.
This footage captures the eastbound train on a Saturday morning. It was an early start to greet the train rolling into Toowoomba, but certainly an interesting days' outing. A great survivor and likely with a limited lifespan, given the cars are almost life expired and no replacement - unlike the Brisbane to Cairns Sunlander route - has been announced.
With low passenger numbers, a bus service is the most likely outcome at some point in the future.
Vale, Westlander.
