Awesome analysis! I agree that the "seals" are more like visual representations of actual seals that are scattered around the world. However, I'm pretty sure there are six seals (and the statue), in the scene, for a total of 7 statues. My guess is that the "fallen" or broken statue of the seal represents the one that was already cracked at the Eye that freed Ishy. I wonder if the others will fall or break as each of their seals weaken or break throughout the series. I'm still not entirely convinced that there is one seal per Forsaken, and while I originally thought this scene might confirm only 6 Forsaken, I now believe that the 8-pointed star design on the seals means there are 8 Forsaken, just like there are 8 statues. I also agree that the Black Ajah "black stone" is caused by some sort of weave, and that there probably isn't a difference between the different stones that the Aes Sedai put in their rings other than a weave that they use to change it. So happy to have you back!

I’m glad you think there are six seals because that would make more sense to me and I personally don’t like the one seal per Forsaken idea so I hope it’s a different number.

@@ReadingthePattern I thought the seals were never tied to the forsaken, they just kept the prison shut for the Dark One as well as them and as they started to weaken the forsaken started getting out. But it was never one per forsaken which is why they all got out even though there were still 2-3 seals left.
@ReadingthePattern
@ReadingthePattern Год назад
@@ioannispaxinos5171 I don’t think the show is going to do one seal per forsaken I think it’s just a design choice to represent the Forsaken on the seals or seal proxies which is what we might be seeing here.

@@ReadingthePattern I think the little statues at the Social are just that, made of stone, symbolic and easter eggy more than anything else. As for the number of seals in the show, 6 or 8 are the most likely. It feels weird that the little statues at the Social (and the real cuendillar seal at the Eye) would have eight points but then there are only 6 seals in the world. Similarly, it feels weird if there are 8 seals that there were only 6 statues and that the roof only had 6 points. I don’t immediately love idea of the seals being tied so closely to the Forsaken, though the analysis of the dolls/seal iconography is pretty convincing. I’ll have to reserve judgment on how the show handles this. Please no ‘one seal and one forsaken a season!’ The show is certainly taking the focus of the antagonist and evil in the series away from the Dark One and placing it more on the human characters, which true to the message of the books, are the real evil after all. I’ve posted elsewhere that I like the changes to Ishy so far, a logical and rational evil is far more interesting then your typical simple fantasy evil ala Sauron in Lord of the Rings. That being said I think WoT is great because it has both types and while we’ve got some of the simple evil so far in the show, Shadowspawn, White Cloaks etc. and we’ll get some more this season in the Seanchan I’m really getting ancy for them to show us the big bad of the Dark One.

Re: the girls identity - I do think it matters. Of course the main purpose ot the scene is to characterize Ishy and give some hints about Darkfriends, but I think its very natural that when this scene starts, the vast majority of people will immediately wonder: who is this girl and why is she here? If it isnt supposed to be a mystery we are still thinking about, they could have easily redirected us by having her say "Mum, why are all these people in our house?" or some such. My hope is that means we will revisit this scene later in the season once several of them have been revealed, or one of our characters encounters this girl and pieces start to slide into place. Thanks as always for the great content!

I just started a memory of light in my reread. The little girl kinda gives me vibes of Slayer's description of "the town" and the kids that grow up there.

Thank you for an excellent analysis. I find it incredibly funny that the man's very convincing sell to the viewers that the Shadow is not as bad or evil as they have been made out to be by the Aes Sedai, has his sales pitch completely undone (at least for me) by Padden Fain's utterly creepy if not downright evil grin. He doesn't stay anything or do much but that one grin makes it clear that for all the honied words used by 'the man' this is not a group you want to hook up with if that's the sort of creep they include in their membership. And that's before you find out what the people with the long nails get up to especially if you happen to have certain abilities.

Yeah I noticed that too, Fain’s smile was timed very nicely to counteract his not scary pitch to the girl

It's interesting to see Padan Fain as a part of this council and on official darkfriend duties. In the book he's more of a Maverick bad guy rather than a dutiful darkfriend. But his transformation, while gruesome, wasn't mentioned in much detail. Perhaps, if the show does follow this arc, they make it more interesting. I hope so.

I think the subtitles on the preview scene are incorrect. It sounds to me that Fares Fares is saying "sooner or later, it will be so," not "served," and this matches up with the quote from the book.

Trollocs don't purr. I believe they butchered this when compared to the books. I would have liked to see the eyeless writhe on the floor with everyone else.

"similar"... the sealstones in the preview are the same as the one at the Eye. (I'm calling them that because who knows what the actual connection to the seals will end up being.) That overhead shot at the Eye where you can see the symbols on the stone are the same, minus some weathering, but the S1 Trailer 360 might be a bit clearer.
@ReadingthePattern
@ReadingthePattern Год назад
I know they’re the same design, but I don’t say exact because the size is clearly different at least. I really am not convinced these are actual seals, but rather representations of them.

It might be something with your audio setting? Though audio was recorded differently so it might not come through in mono? But if I hear other complaints I’ll address as soon as I can. Turn captions on, because I did manually put in captions so they should be accurate.
@i_a_r_n_a
@i_a_r_n_a Год назад
@@ReadingthePattern All the other audio is working fine in the video, it's just that one minute segment that's silent, so I don't see how it could be audio settings on my side. (Captions are broken for me in a way that occasionally youtube captions are, where all the timing info is missing so it just shows them all as a single screen at the very start.) Edit: I normally browse in Firefox... checking Chrome I get the same behavior.
@ReadingthePattern
@ReadingthePattern Год назад
Other folks have said they hear the audio for that segment but it sounds different. It was recorded differently so that is why I said it could be a setting. The captions I added are not RU-vid generated so I would hope they’d work for you and be accurate but I will definitely look at this more when I am home and not on my phone.
@i_a_r_n_a
@i_a_r_n_a Год назад
@@ReadingthePattern Further update! I figured it out, it's kinda both! That first segment only has left-side audio (and I'm wearing headphones but without the left head phone over my ear). (The subtitles seem to be broken everywhere, however. The auto-generated ones work just fine though.)
@ReadingthePattern
@ReadingthePattern Год назад
@@i_a_r_n_a I thought it might be a mono vs stereo issue. Thanks for the update on the captions too. That I will have to go in and check/fix manually.

How do you feel about the theory that the girl and her mother are the minor mobility who own the manor? So the little girl didn't get brought along to the meeting, she got told to play outside while Mom uses the fireplace room for the meeting. Some folks (forget who exactly, sorry!) did really good sleuthing and determined that the clothing could also match Amadicia, because the behind the scenes content has shown us a mood board where Romani were mentioned as an influence for Amadicia. (I don't know if i like just choice because I thought Amadicia was more Puritan styled in the books, to reflect the influence of Whitecloak prudishness.) I think Almoth Plain was also color coded to the same style as Amadicia, so that's where I'm guessing they're from.
@ReadingthePattern
@ReadingthePattern Год назад
I think that’s a fine theory and it could be true although I’m not sure that the clothing is distinct enough from the Tinkers or really fine enough to look like nobility. I honestly think we’ll never know for sure because we’ll never get any more information about who they are and in that instance I think we will be meant to conclude they are Tinkers. But if we end up meeting Amadician nobility who look like that then I’ll change my mind.
@maxsilva11

@@ReadingthePattern yeah, I suppose is sort of just a trade off - do you want it to make sense that the girl is there or do you want to imagine it's a clue about Tuatha'an darkfriends - and it may never get resolved.
