The Whispered Ah is an exercise originally taught by F.M. Alexander, the founder of the Alexander Technique. Practicing the Whispered Ah can bring you many benefits such as stress relief, developing ease of breathing, reducing jaw tension and relieving TMJ problems, undoing tension in vocal muscles, gaining a sense of ease and control of the subtle muscles in the pharynx, larynx and soft palate, reducing excess tension in the tongue and coordinating the head, neck, back pattern for improved vocal ease and skill. Most of all, it trains out reaction when initiating vocal use (the moment before speaking or singing) to be one with the best coordination and ease instead of a reaction to habitually tighten when preparing to speak.
