Drawn from the novel of the same name by Philippa Gregory, “The White Princess" is a tale of power, family, love and betrayal, charting one of the most tumultuous times in British history uniquely from the point of view of the women. The tempestuous marriage between Elizabeth of York (Lizzie) and King Henry VII, officially marks the conclusion of The War of the Roses, but the real battle for the throne is far from over.

one thing I say about Henry VII he was very devoted and loyal to his wife, Elizabeth of York and there isn't much historical documentation of Henry VII's mistresses if he had any, which is very rare for a medieval king, that I can respect.

They loved each other in real life though it was an arranged marriage. He locked himself in his room and mourned for weeks also never married again. The child she gave birth too also died. This was also less then a year after their son Arthers death.
@margaretroseduchessofpough8485
Ann Stillwell he did consider to marry Catherine of Aragon but Spain said no and major reason he mourned after Elizabeth’s death because he worried about York supporter when their princess died. They have ‘fond’ for each others but it’s not close to definition of ‘love’ in our understanding nowadays.

@@margaretroseduchessofpough8485 He never really considered marrying Catherine of Aragon because her mother died and she was no longer considered as suitable for him and for his son for that matter. Her older sister was offered as choice, however. His advisors begged him to consider marrying again. He half heartedly agreed to them look, but never followed through with any marriage. It's always been contended it was because he was deeply in love with Elizabeth. She was supposedly was with him as well. It's said that she kept him from his worst character flaws and that was part of the reason that he was so tortured when she died. He no longer had that touchstone to help him stay stable.

Jodie is so powerful as an actress ! She is royalty in my mind her voice is so soft and beautiful ! I’ll bet she can sing really well because she can do anything including bring a person out of the depths of disparity and lift them up to a safe cloud filled with love ! You can see her talent so well as queen Elizabeth and she looks like a queen ... confident and able to know what the right path is for the greater good of her family and her realm whom she puts ahead of herself ! She would ride into battle just to hear his voice ...WOW ! That is deep ! She is deep and now she’s Villanelle and winning emmys ! My quarantine has been just fine watching as much of the visually stunning woman as I can ... and it’s not the alien talking lol ! America loves you Liverpudlian Goddess !!!

Never read the books and don't care to because from everything I hear the author had a favorable opinion of Richard the III compared to Henry VII but with this show only being a miniseries it was done really well especially with only having 8 episodes. & this scene right here was arguably the best scene in the whole series bc it is where Lizzie FINALLY realizes that Henry is as much a pawn as she is and not the monster that she thought. Through this scene she comes to realize that they have a lot more in common than she could have ever thought and that Henry is actually a good person. The turning point in their relationship was this moment and it was done really well and after this scene they both pretty much took a stand to work as team together both in their marriage and their ruling and to not be under the influence of each of their mothers so much. Obviously they faced other issues further in the season but through it all they stuck together and in my opinion the unity all started with this great scene.

@DeepikaGinger

It’s debatable whether or not the author had a favourable opinion of Richard, because, in the book, towards the end, we see him use both his wife Anne and Elizabeth badly. He made Elizabeth his mistress in order to insult Henry Tudor to whom she was betrothed, and to basically ruin her reputation, and he didn’t care that by flaunting her as his mistress publicly he was also insulting Anne. Elizabeth was too in love and naive to realise, and Anne was helpless to do anything and was also heartbroken after the loss of her son. Richard told each of them that he only loved her and not the other, but, whether or not he was being sincere to either of them or even if he loved both of them, he was acting in a completely selfish manner.
@michaeldefeo1439

@@DeepikaGinger like i said i never read books but thank you for providing the info. Long story short just from watching The White Queen and The White Princess it definitely seemed like the author was a Richard III supporter and a York supporter which is totally fine but everyones gotta remember by watching these shows liberties are going to be taken and someone and some side is gonna be painted in a bad light and that is what happens to the Lancasters, Tudors, and Henry VII's mother Margaret Beaufort. But i always remember nothing is black and white, there isnt just one side of a coin bc the Lancasters, Tudors, and Yorks all did horrible things during this War of Roses, no one side was squeaky clean. But that is the cost of War its never pretty and so many people forget or dont realize that, and the Yorks were just as ruthless and power hungry as everyone else bc that is what u needed to be back in this time when u fought for the throne

I really wish the show runner for The White Queen and this show had taken over the reins for Becoming Elizabeth. I much prefer the dialogue and atmosphere of these shows and I feel they combined real history and dramatics in a way that was intriguing to watch. Becoming Elizabeth is boring so far and is weirdly modernized; it doesn’t feel like a typical period drama. Not sure why everyone is so desperate to modernize any media these days; some of us love period dramas because they are an escape from the current world. Also the casts had actual chemistry in The White Queen and The White princess (which was sorely missing in The Spanish Princess and seems to be absent in Becoming Elizabeth as well).

Elizabeth already knew who were her enemies and nobles would always go after the crown. That is why, Elizabeth was Henry's closest ally and confident as she is his wife and knew how to play the duty wife role in order to capture her enemies in plain sight. You have to feel bad for Henry the 7th because he didn't choose the life of a king. It was already written by fate that he would create a Tudor dynasty. The sad part is both Elizabeth and Henry were pawns to their families to gain power. That was why, they need power for themselves to break away from being their pawns. And they did.

@MichaelDeFeo18
@MichaelDeFeo18 6 лет назад
Marie V I agree but the author of the books had a favorable view of Richard III unfortunately. Personally I choose to believe that it was Richard III who killed the princes in the tower, bc he stole their crown so obviously he wanted to keep it and he couldn't do that if they we're alive. Furthermore Elizabeth Woodville supported Henry VII's claim to throne and marriage pact with her daughter in history bc she most likely believed the same thing. Long story short we will never know the truth but despite everything even if the princes died by some other means it is still Richard III"s fault bc he was the one who stole their crown and put them in the tower, and made them vulnerable to anything happening so for putting them in that position he will always be responsible for their death if you ask me.

Until she meets Henry, another puppet of a mother’s ambition who had never been allowed to consider what he wanted for himself, that is.

The reality is Henry was not born with a destiny he was born heir to the earldom of Richmond, he wouldn’t have been thought of as a claimant for the throne at the time of his birth at all, at that point Henry VI still reigned and had a legitimate heir in Prince Edward of Westminster. It was only after they were both killed that Henry was considered the heir to house of Lancaster and what a weak claim it was… in my opinion the house of York were a far better choice for the English throne and may have gone on to win back The French territories lost under Lancaster
@pk6810

Philippa Gregory and the writer for this show Emma Frost seem to take the view that Margaret Beaufort always planned for her son to take the throne which is as far as I ascertain unfounded, she worked her way into Edward 1Vs court and favour to try and have her sons rights restored but that was it, there was no grand plans for the throne until Richard gave them an opening.

Elizabeth Woodville's entire family betrayed the Lancasters when she married Edward IV. What do you expect women back then to do? They were taught to obey their husbands. Katherine of Aragorn had to step aside when Henry VIII tried to betroth their daughter Mary to the Dauphin of France, who was her family's mortal enemy. Margaret Tudor had to support her son James V of Scotland when her brother's wife killed her husband. You can't say that Elizabeth of York betrayed her family when her children should be of top priority to her, AND her family has supposedly sworn fealty to Henry VII.

This is utterly rubbish. Henry VII through his father is the half nephew of a Lancastrian King, and his mother an heir of the body of the first Lancastrian King. He is one of the few choice for all the families that had put their children, wealth and lives for the Lancaster cause. He never had a choice. As for Elizabeth, no one, her mother, her grandmothers, nor any of the women around her ever marry for love. She knew as an heir of the body of a York King she has the duty to marry for her family and their supporters.
