Power, Emotion, Pure Rock & Roll. The unique thing about The Who is everyone in the band thought they were the Lead. Four guys all playing lead at a supreme level. Drums, Bass, Singer and Guitar - it was a battle to be the best. I saw them twice in the 70s. One of the greatest live bands of all time. Legends!!

Мне кажется Джон никогда не стремился быть лидером , всегда такой спокойный и уверенный в себе , что несомненно совсем не мешало ему при этом оставаться одним из лучших бас-гитаристов мира .

With all due respect to other bassists, there was NO ONE like John Entwistle. He had a signature sound and a signature style that simply cannot be replaced. The Who are not The Who without him. I saw them a few times as they were in their late '90's/early 2000's resurgence, and they were absolutely amazing even then. Without John, not so much. I'm too young to have seen them with Keith, and I can't even imagine how great they were live back then (the recordings only do them so much justice). They were astonishing even when I saw them those few times when they were in their '50's.

When John Entwhistle, bass, died on tour in Las Vegas Pete Townshend, guitar, said we almost have to hire an orchestra to replace John, he just filled the music so well. John and Keith Moon, drummer, were so connected. Keith died years before. It was hard on Roger, singer, and Pete to go on. One of the songs I love is something from their later years, rather reflective, Tea and Theatre.

Keith Moon tended to drum the melody, which is a thing you can easily pick out once it's been pointed out. I'm also not entirely convinced he had an off switch. Meanwhile, the camera probably ignored John Entwistle because he had the least dynamic stage presence - but who needs stage antics when you can shred a bass line like that? For both of them at their finest, look no further than Quadrophenia (the whole album tells a story). "The Real Me" has an absolutely iconic bass line, and Keith just went nuts through the entirety of it, possibly nowhere more so than "Bell Boy."
@Bassman2353

In concert, Moon went through what looked like 100 drum sticks. They were flying up from behind his drum set like a volcano erupting. It was just amazing to see.

The writer of this song is Mose Allison, whose music is really worth looking into! He is a bluesman on the jazz side of the blues. He has a big catalog of songs with wry humor and great modal piano playing. Try 'Your Mind Is On Vacation', 'Ever Since the World Ended', 'Everybody's Cryin Mercy', 'Certified Senior Citizen'.

FINALLY!! Someone reacting to this awesome song by The Who live. This is actually one of the few cover songs they did and was from a jazz musician named Moses Allison. It was of course "Who'd" up. The original was very piano driven. This is from a concert at Tanglewood and while it is great, I suggest you check this same song from The Isle of Wight which is a few months later.....unbelievable You got it right, they were firing on all cylinders and when they did they were untouchable live. Thanks for the reaction from a new subscriber!! BTW--Thank you as well for waiting until the end of the song to give your comments. More people should follow your lead.👍✌

I love how the cameraman finds the framing of Roger, Keith, and Pete to be the most useful framing of the stage act, all the while completely ignoring the man who is bringing the most to the table. I've watched many videos of The Who playing live, and if we ever get to see Entwistle at all, it's when he's waiting to join the song again. Imagine watching videos of Tiger Woods where you only see him standing on the tee box and never see him hitting a shot.

They consisted of John Entwistle on bass, Keith Emerson (ELP) on keyboards, Joe Walsh guitar, Skunk Baxter (Doobie Bros..Steely Dan) guitar and Simon Phillips (Toto) drums. The camera work is phenomenal. You get some incredible, long looks.
