Beetlejuices haircolor throughout the musical is reflective of BJ's current role in the story. Green: Mischievious but light-hearted, the psudo-protagonist of the play. Purple: Depressed and desperate, starts to be more manipulative and aggresive to get what he wants. Red: Angry and violent, circumstances pushes him to be a full-blown villain in the story using lies and threats to get his way.
@@crea749 It's a term used when an immigrant gets married to a citizen of the country they're in and they then also become a citizen of that country? Look up the definition idk how to explain it. Basically BJ's clarifying that he isn't marrying Lydia out of love or anything but just to be alive. Y'know cause he knows it's gross and gets why everyone is reacting like that. He said it earlier in the play to his clones when they reacted the same way.
why is NO ONE talking about when Lydia says “classic bait and switch, oldest trick in the book!” and when adam and charles are S C R E A M I N G “nOO NO NO N O” like that shit HIT
To be fair beetlejuice is just tired of being alone and then he finds a friend in Lydia and then she tries to get rid of him, that would hurt, I'm not saying he's good, this scene just makes sense in a way
Absolutely! In the D.C. run of Beetlejuice, Betelgeuse wasn’t even hurt by Lydia leaving but forced her into the marriage anyway. They added his emotional hurt regarding the situation later on to make him more sympathizable with the audience. It definitely worked- adding the aspect of him feeling betrayed made him easier to understand.
Thing is? She never tried to get rid of him. He overreacted to her going to the Maitlands for help regarding bringing her mom back because he refused. Literally right after he assumed he is being abandoned by her, she calls him “my monster” to Barb and Adam all fondly. His loneliness and fear of abandonment caused the misunderstanding, which breaks my heart because their friendship was sweet while it lasted. Another reason why I enjoy the cartoon, too-their friendship held up!
I think Beetlejuice misinterpreted Lydia's wordings, as we the audience thought the same thing like him. The line "What are you talking about? I wanna find my mom." meant Lydia was confused as to why he brought their friendship to bringing back her mom. And since he has mommy issues and desperation of wanting to connect, he took it as a betrayal from the only one he wasn't invisible with.
I hope they make a pro shot so we can get it in high quality. God this has to be one of my favorite songs in the whole musical, more than the cast recordings.
I wish they kept the verse ".. a good ol fashioned wedding like they used to do in Yemen where the bride is young but still above the legal age of 7!" This one's still good but the DC show was super dark and hilarious!
Videobot9000 Absolutely! I actually also prefer that line. Both are funny, but, “... like they used to do in Yemen where the bride is young but still above the legal age of seven,” is definitely a bit more funny.
@@lylathepiratefox In this version it's "There's gonna be a good old fashioned wedding/ with some dancing and undeading/ where the cover band is cranking/ and the age gap is upsetting
William Afton Understandably. He’s relatively cute throughout the rest of the musical, but this song was supposed to show how he would do ANYTHING to get what he wants. It’s supposed to show that he’s, indeed, dangerous when he wants to be. He doesn’t care who he hurts to get what he wants.
DEFINITELY!! the live performance really got me. like, he was so desperate to get what he wanted. alex pulled that off so well, i swear. it was truly a wonderful (and quite honestly scary) scene.
@@KingTruman07 OMFG IKR??? HE REALLY PULLED OFF THAT "im all happy and friendly unTIL YOU MAKE ME MAD" THING ASDIJFH i was so enthralled in the show, imma convince my parents to go with me again the whole (being dead) thing was absolutely engaging and hilarious, and it would be, honestly, the most amazing thing to see again.
Ms. Sarcasm EXACTLY, lmao, poor BJ. He’s lonely as hell. In fact, one of the lines from the show is Lydia saying, “I actually feel bad for him. ... He’s the loneliest guy I’ve ever met.” Additionally, Juno says at one point, “So desperate for somebody to love you that you act like a damn fool!” Seriously, someone get this demon a friend.
[BETELGEUSE] Hey guys, awesome seance Lots of good old-fashioned chaos You lose - in your faces! ‘Cause look who's holding all the aces Hey, it’s great that you ate up my plan The pooch has been screwed And shit's hit the fan! You wanted me gone- [LYDIA, spoken] I don't have a choice [BETELGEUSE] You wanted your mom- [LYDIA, spoken] It’s my fault she's dying! [BETELGEUSE] You messed with the wrong book - now look what you've done! (BARBARA screams) [LYDIA, spoken] Okay! I'll do it, I'll marry you! - [BETELGEUSE] There's gonna be a- Good old-fashioned wedding With some dancing and un-deading Where the cover-band is cranking And the age gap will be upsetting When I finally say "I do" I'll be alive and born anew And I'll be boring just like you Oh boy, I'm on my way! Being dead sucks Rent me a tux I got what I want, from soup to nuts BJ's getting married- [LYDIA, spoken] Hey Beetlejuice, I'm going to the Netherworld! [BETELGEUSE, spoken] Wait, what? [LYDIA, spoken] Classic bait and switch! Oldest trick in the book! [CHARLES, spoken] Lydia! No! [ADAM, spoken] No, no, no! [BETELGEUSE, spoken] Why DOES EVERYONE KEEP LEAVING ME!? Okay, new plan: You're all gonna die (sung) Today!
freaky singer Pardon? I mean, it’s a bootleg, so the audio is naturally low quality. It’s difficult to understand at some parts. It’s just standard that people put lyrics in the comments/description.
Jen Flynn-Fletcher Ooh, my bad! I was wondering if I got that wrong. In the original lyrics that I pasted, it was something ENTIRELY different, so that was literally the one bit that I translated and I got it wrong 🗿 Thank you!
-for _ forever- I KNOW, OH MY GOD. Throughout the song, Beetlejuice blames her for everything happening. By saying that line, Lydia accepts that it’s all her fault. Poor baby.
ikr! Sofia is such a great actor! In home it actually sounded like she was crying when she was talking to charles. and if it was, im impressed. i cant cry on command. ;-;
The Whole "Being Dead" Thing Part 3 Good Old Fashioned Wedding - Beetlejuice the Musical 0:00/2:35 Beetlejuice: It's a green card thing! Lydia: No! she at your his day!? A Lydia seems are is married with a wedding day 👰💍🎩🕊💒 from by Beetlejuice. we the musical been come in Beetlejuice Broadway.
HarmonyGal 123 Exactly. Betelgeuse is a bastard in this scene. Manipulative from start to finish. By making HER feel more responsible for Barbara’s death, Lydia would feel more obligated to do something to save her: for example, marry Betelgeuse.
Well Beej IS a villain- he was never intended to be perceived as “good” until the very last scene so this part helps us remember that. It’s easy to fall in love with him during the beginning of the show but this is the moment where he basically slaps everyone- audience included- in the face. It’s so excellently written. As silly as it is in some parts, watching him destroy things with his powers and pretty much hold everyone hostage to get his way is jaw-droppingly chilling and effective.
I'm just saying, that part where Adam was screaming as Lydia said she was going to the netherworld hurt me. It was filled with so much emotion and he sounded so terrified.
Legit this whole sequence with the dramatic reprise of "the whole being dead thing", the lighting, Beetlejuice's demeanor, and the effects make this moment so badass and epic.
MadMagician Agreed! They pull it off incredibly. And the bits of pyrotechnics are just... damn. I was sitting in the Winter Garden Theatre seeing the show in January, and even though I’d seen that scene a million times in bootlegs, I was still blown away. Super badass.
Dewey: it's time to throw some shit against the fan ! Beetlejuice: and shit's hit the fan ! me: it took him 4 years to FINALLY do it (also thank you for putting this on RU-vid, I love that song)
Must’ve been a REALLY high ceiling for it to take four years, but good for the shit for finally reaching its destination! 💀 Also, you’re welcome! I also love the songs! I’m thinking of uploading the That Beautiful Sound (Reprise) next. The non-album songs need to be heard more.
Morgane Hey! If you’re interested, I uploaded another non-album song. I told you I’d keep you posted, so yeah! That Beautiful Sound (Reprise): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-F1675dqGa6Q.html
This is the most intimidating Beetlejuice is throughout the whole musical and I love it. Also I feel like they should’ve included this in the actual soundtrack because a lot of people get confused when Lydia just randomly is marrying Beetlejuice in the official soundtrack.
Very late, but this part makes me think of Laurens interlude in the Hamilton soundtrack. They kept it off the soundtrack so you'd have a surprise when you see the show.
Beetlejuice waaaaaaaaay over reacted I mean Lydia didn't try to get rid of him, she just was like 'i gotta bring Mom back' and he was like 'AAAAAAAAAAHHHH THAT MEANS SHE WANTS ME GONE'
@@hamiltonthemeowsical9736 I think it's entirely because marriage is what'll bring him to life and Lydia is the only living person he held any cards over. He didn't want to be alone and, according to him, life is the only way to escape that, so he forced Lydia into doing the only thing that would bring him to life, I don't think it actually had anything to do with Lydia as a individual.
as someone who is very lonely, very emotional and has abandonment issues i can vouch that this is pretty damn realistic because this is absolutely how my brain works all of the time. thankfully unlike BJ i actually Do Therapy and i don't skip directly to vengeful breakdown, i just talk it out lmao, but yeah this is def a big reason why BJ is my favorite character
man, he's already really emotional throughout the whole musical, but here beetlejuice is just super emotionally unstable. just listen to the transition between "the whole being dead thing pt 3" and "good old fashioned wedding" and between the end of "good old fashioned wedding" and beetlejuice's final lines, he gets really crazy mood swings. it really shows how desperate he is by this point
Max Collins Agh, same. These songs are probably two of my favorites. Not entirely sure why they were cut from the album. I guess the writers just wanted to surprise fans who watched the show with new songs that they hadn’t heard before, but it still sucks. I’m not planning on deleting it, but it does violate RU-vid’s guidelines, so I guess we’ll see what becomes of it!
@@freelancebioexorcist174 sorry to but in, but you're actually really on the dot with the new song part. A couple musicals do this to add something new so when you hear it you're like: "Oh wait, whats this?" and get more invested. If your a Hamilton fan, Lauren's interlude, is a prime example of this. A couple of musicals exhibit this feature, it really depends on the writer though.
Alexandra Oleski Yeah! I love Hamilton, and the Laurens Interlude is heartbreaking. It sucks, though, that Beetlejuice is closing in June and that we’ll never get a professional recording of the non-album songs. It’s a nice surprise for fans who see it, though! I would’ve LOVED it if I hadn’t watched bootleg repeatedly before seeing the show.
Freelance Bioexorcist I heard that they’ve professionally recorded all of beetlejuice a while ago for new actors coming on board to have influence sadly we’ll probably never see this for a while at the very least not until the tour starts in 2021 like they did for spongebob the musical
@@freelancebioexorcist174 i know this may never happen. but maybe one day they will re-release this album with songs that they didn't include from the musical. and maybe also have songs that were heard when it was in its preview run in Washington D.C. maybe we can get enough people on board with this idea to make it happen
Alyssa M DeNovio I feel like that happened because it would give up too much of the plot. Like the beautiful sound reprise, that basically tells how Beetlejuice is getting revenge and then this too
i just saw this show and now im so happy to relive it through this. that popping sound during the beginning part ?? lights BREAKING. that clinking of chains ??? handcuffs appearing out of NOWHERE its so so magical im desperate to see it again
biirch oh my god, same. this song, especially, had some certain magic about it as far as pyrotechnics and special effects goes. i was blown away seeing it in person. i had seen it in bootleg before, but it’s so true that it’s not the same as seeing it live. unfortunately, i live all the way across the country and may never get to see it again, but i’d give an arm and a leg to do so.
Within the past two days, I’ve watched this at least 50 times and I memorized it the first time and I’m dying it’s my favorite song be on the dang album I beg of you
GoodOldFashionBJ Bway This is definitely up there on my list of favorites. I sosososososoosososososo wish they would’ve left it on the album! I’d die for a professional recording of it.
Freelance Bioexorcist at this point youtube recommends it to me every day and every time I go on- OH GOSH CAUSE LOOK WHOS HOLDING ALL THE ACES IT STARTED HELP ITS TAKEN OVER MY LIFE AND ITS JUST AHHHH WHY CANT IT BE IN THE DANG ALBUM THIS SONG IS MY LIFE
I just interpreted a line in a different way! When Beetlejuice says “You wanted your Mom!” And Lydia responds with “It’s my fault she’s dying” I at first thought she was randomly talking about how Barbara was dying but looking back after Beetlejuice mentions her mom Lydia mentions Barbara so she most like sees her as a mother figure! Which is painfully obvious! I realize after righting this comment that this was painfully obvious throughout the story AND I already knew that but I just thought this was coowl.
I think the fact that she sees Barbara as a mother figure and now she's being killed from Lydia's own actions just added to Lydia's fear and panic throughout this song.
"why does eVERYone kEEp LEAVING MEEEEEEEEEEE?????" Ouch, man. Even after the entire lead-up to that line, and all of the horrible things he's doing back-to-back, that hits WAY too close to home.
Abby B. I saw the show in January, and oh my god, same. We finally see Beetlejuice at his breaking point in this scene- like, he’s finally been pushed over the edge. We see him in a way that we’ve never seen him before. Love this moment with all of my heart.
1:17 0:05 0:10 Why is no one talking about these? She sounded so genuinely distraught and terrified and the emotion was just... really good. She sounded like she was in tears.
You’re absolutely right. Sophia Anne Caruso’s acting was STUNNING. She portrayed Lydia’s emotions in a shockingly good way. It feels so raw and legitimate. You can tell, just from her voice, that she’s probably in tears. That’s not an easy fear.
You guys everyones talking about the song itself but im like why is this acting SO GOOD, it actually scares me. Take bjs scream at 1:00, its so filled with absolute rage I cant get over how good this is.
@@anidleteen yes! Lydia's lines "I don't have a choice..", "It's my fault she's dying!", And "Okay..! I'll do it, I'll marry you!" Are full of so much emotion
Is it possible that in future Beetlejuice productions (this is an Instant classic Fight me)) they'll do official recordings of this part??? Love it way too much tbh 😳
Is it me or “you messed with the wrong book and look what you’ve done” part of the song both the lyrics and the music is similiar to Phantom of the opera, like as a vibe?
BTW, in the show, BJ lifts Barbara off the ground and she's floating. Also it's bc Lydia opened the 'Book for the recently deceased.' Also when Lydia says she'd marry BJ, she goes like "It's a classic bait and switch" and then she goes through the door to the netherworld, with her dad behind her and that's where she meets ms argentina
ItzzMeghan You’re absolutely right! However, for whatever reason, the third The Whole “Being Dead” Thing isn’t recognized as being an official song in Beetlejuice. This version has been officially named TWBDT Pt. 3, so I like to call the, “Great choice! You won’t regret it,” one, ‘TWBDT Pt. 2.5’.
Freelance Bioexorcist makes sense. I’m so grateful that you post the recording since I loved seeing the show so much that I saw it twice and I wanna see it like everyday lol. So I really enjoy coming to channels like yours to enjoy memorable moments from the show.
every time i hear this, my brain autofills the line "you messed with the wrong book now look what you've done" to "you messed with the wrong poltergeist-" and then it short circuits because that's not the actual lyric and idk where i even got it from. it annoys me every time lmao
