Seeing the horses run and be free is awesome ! I saw the same when I was in North Carolina ... they get so close and it's so hard not to pet them, but of course you can't. I could have just watched them for hours, they are so peaceful and beautiful. Great video !
Good morning my friend, I pray your day is a wonderful one. THANK YOU for taking me along on your great adventure's. GOD bless you and keep you in all your endeavors. Peace out. ✌ 👻 ❤
How beautiful. The wild horses are descendants of horses from a Spanish shipwreck. I guess they still round them up once a year and auction off some of them to keep the numbers of them down on the island.
the big flies are horse flies. they hurt when they bite you. and the reason they are called that is thats the only place you find them is where the horses are. great video
What a fun, peaceful time, didn't look too populated either. Beautiful, healthy horses. What an amazing vacation your having. Thank you so much for sharing it with all with us.
We camped there a few years ago for ten days in the fall. It was gorgeous. No bugs not a lot of people, and the horses were out and moving every day. The only shot I wasn't getting was a pony on the beach with the water behind him/her. Finally, on our last full day, it happened. We found a band in the dunes and I shot them for hours. I still wasn't getting them to go down to the actual beach though, so we left that band near sunset and came across another band that was on the actual beach. I finally got the shots I wanted. None of them went in the water though, so I have to do a return trip. Thanks for the trip down memory lane though. We really love that place.
What a beautiful place and those horses are amazing. I have seen wild horses but they never let anyone that looks as you could with these. Maybe because they were in a park and more used to people. Neverless a great place and beautiful horses. ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Pretty cool, lake Pleasant in AZ has wild donkeys all over the place and the Gila River Indian reservation has wild horses, got to be careful at night driving as there are no fences. Looks like you and the family had a good time! Thanks for sharing and as always thumbs up!
Enjoyed visiting the island with y'all : ) In an area so large it's amazing you saw any of the horses at all ... Loved seeing them ...so beautiful, healthy and well cared for. Thank you for sharing another family- fun video, J ,J, & L : )
Gorgeous video I love horses and being out doors so this spring will be my first time back on a horse in a long time so I'm looking forward to see that but great video
Thank you for this video. I went her as a child with girl scouts and it has always been one of my fondest memories. Over the years it has become fuzzy and this video totally brought up some fond memories.
Great video 👍 thanks for sharing! I'm going to plan a trip there with the family because of your video. Thanks again! Blessings to you and your family 🙏
Cool video JP 😊 I camped at assateaque island in 1973 with my boy scout troop. Grayson Highlands in the Virginia mountains has like 500 wild ponies. Very tame so you can feed and pet them.😊
Just came home today from being at the campground. Hurricane Laura came through, the tent collapsed, wicked lightning..the horses actually seeked shelter behind a dune right next to our tent. We also saw them come on the beach during the sunrise. Assateague Island Campground.
This is so awesome you did a video of this place when i was a child 10 years i read the book about these wild horses and ponies the book Misty of Chincoteague i just loved it then i read Stormy Mistys Foal i still have these 2 books lol thank you ever so much JP for this video and being able to see the horses and the scenery great video and informative blessings
Thank you for this video this is very helpful. I am planning to go there this summer and found the website hard to navigate but your video gives me all the info i need!
Yes, I love horses so much and used to own a couple ! But wow, They are absolutely beautiful and wish I was where you are ! Plus, the area you're in is breath taking ! Thank you for sharing this amazing video JP!
As someone who spent four summers working at Assateague Island National Seashore directly with the management and conservation of the horses, I would like to correct you on the birth control section of your video. The stallions are never castrated. Castration would entail capturing the horse and having to sedate them, probably in a livestock squeeze chute. The horses on the Maryland side of Assateague are not captured or touched by park staff for any reason. The mares are darted with an immuno-contraceptive called Porzine Zona Pellucida (PZP) for birth control. The contraception is the only human intervention in the horses' lives. However, you are right about the after one foaling part. Mares are darted when they are 1, 2, and 3 so they have some more time to mature before they foal. Contraception stops when they turn 4 years old and is not resumed till she has had a foal and weaned it. The mare is then darted with the contraceptive annually to hopefully prevent any more pregnancies. PZP is an immuno-contraceptive though meaning it is a protein that works naturally with the mare's body to suppress pregnancy. It does not stop her from going through her natural cycles of heat and she will still breed, it is just less likely she will conceive. However, PZP is 95% effective there is always a 5% chance the mare will still get pregnant. We get surprise foals from mares being darted annually every year. The contraceptive management is needed for population control because horse are invasive to the barrier island environment.
Love it! Thanks for sharing! When I was a kid, I dreamed of going there to see the wild horses. But since I live about as far as you can get from there [boise] this is as close as I'll get. lol. I saw that giant dragonfly. ;]
1 time I visited Assateague Island I was at the beach part...my friend was eating. then we saw the horses come near us. guys that were with the horses said hide your food they come and eat em. well it was to late lol.1 horse came and ate my friend hotdog and walked away lol people around us were laughing . there were 7 horses that came. glad you and ur family had a good day and saw the horses.
I love this place and haven't been there in many, many years. Thanks so much for the visit back! Now I need about a dozen of those steamed blues with some vinegar and lots of paper towels...... (You're video made me hungry!)
such a great day you had with the family -- looks like a total day of fun from start to finish // reminds me of House On the Rock in Wisconsin - to really see everything it will take all of about 8 to 10 hours or open to close // thanks for sharing
They look like Quarter horses. The white with brown one could be a 'Paint' and the others look like Bay and darker gold appears to be Palomino colors . We used to have Quarter horses years ago and yes, those horse flies will take a chunk out of you to the point you will bleed.
Such an informative video thank you! I love your daughters hair! I have read alot about mosquitos. How bad are the Mosquitos? I had an accident and have not recovered due to complicated health issues. I cant walk on unpaved ground and I can only walk with a 4 pronged cane holding onto my husband. With my limited mobility what is the likelihood I can see horses without actually walking on the beach or grass?
There arent too bad with bugs. Many people can see the horses from their cars. I was here over the winter the year prior and the horses were 2 ft away from our car. Just depends on where they decide to roam to.
Good morning now you have got to come to the Va. side! You can climb up the Assateague island Light house. My sister in-law works there. She gives tours and also works at the vistor center. Ask for Donna Romines. sorry I wish I could be there. Have a safe fun trip!
Cool video! I was there as a kid with my parents, but it was on the Virginia side. I didn't see any horses just tracks. It's great you get to see some horses.
Hi, I used to own horses till ill health forced me to give up horse ownership :(. What a beautiful area, did you mean the mares (female horses) or the Stallions (male horses not had the op) that have the operation to stop them producing ???. Thanks for a lovely video. x
Oh ok thanks so the stallion remains entire to produce more foals which is cool because you never want to turn the mares into breeding machines anyway, in my book 2 foals should be the limit. x
Good video. At :42 you talk about the "only place to see wild horses". Actually, many of the east coast outer banks islands have some population of wild horses.
@@JPVideos81 Fair enough. Our Boy Scout troop is planning an Assateague bike and kayak camp out next summer so we'll get to see that herd. We did a week long kayak in trip around Pamlico Sound a couple of years ago, and the horses on Shackleford banks didn't get anywhere near us. I guess they get fed enough at Assateague they now expect it.
u have to go to mount rogers trail down Virginia I have a cool video on that trail u can check it out on my pg its a old video its me and the pony on the thumbnail I camp there and had so much fun
Omg! This is one of my fav places! The ponies are wild and this summer one walked right up to my friend in her campsite! Thanks for sharing! Great vid! (My second vlog is of Assateague). I hope you’ll check it out! 🤗 🐎 🌊 ☀️ 🏖 🙌🏻
EARTH ANGEL😇 I love 💕 🐴 horses! “Castrate” is the word ! IS that salt water? Did you camp there? Or 🏊🏻♂️ swim? They should offer 🐎 horseback riding! Those horseshoe crabs 🦀 are scary; do they bite? I suppose these horses aren’t adoptable!? The water would be a lot cooler for them.It is very pretty there.😀😍👍 Do they allow cooking 🔥 fires there?👍
This place has always been on my bucket list. I actually thought there was a lot more horses there. But in a way it's kinda better and part of the adventure like you had trying to find them
