Pérez was not Portugese but Spanish. In Spain, when you marry, both the husband and the wife keep their respective name, and their children get both names. José's father's name was Pérez and his mother's name happened to be Pérez, too, which resulted in José's name to be Pérez Pérez. (In the next generation, the woman's name is dropped. So his father's name actually was "Pérez Something" and his mother's name "Pérez Someotherthing" which resulted in his name being "Pérez Pérez".)

It's amazing how chess parallels classical music. These kinds of games from the older era remind me of performances of the great pianists from the same time period. Performances then were grand, exciting, filled with life and risk taking and imagination. Yes, that came with some mistakes (as this game did), but the performances from that era are generally more enjoyable for me than today's note-perfect, but sometimes sterile, performances.

José Francisco Pérez Pérez was born in Spain, not Portugal. Spanish naming conventions assign two surnames to a person, which are the father's first surname and the mother's first surname (almost always in that order, although the order can be swapped). Most of the time people don't use their second surname, similarly to how people in the U.S. often have a middle name which they almost never use. So "Pérez" and "Pérez Pérez" are both correct.

Spanish naming conventions require the father's last name followed by the mother's last name. Some Spanish-speaking countries require children of unknown paternity to use the mother's last name twice. Make of that what you will. (Although if mother and father both happened to have the surname "Perez," then that would be an unfortunate coincidence).

You just reminded me of the time Ali G interviewed UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros Gali, referring to him as Secretary Boutros Boutros Boutros Boutros Gali.

Thanks for the game and thanks for not torturing your audience with another appearance of Hans' arrogant face or a game where he is just moving pieces for the computer. Thanks
